Prayer to be a great husband and father

Anonymous

Beloved of All
Heavenly Father, thank You for Your grace upon my life. Help me become a great husband to my wife and a loving, present father to my children. Teach me to lead with Christlike love, wisdom, patience, faithfulness, humility, and responsibility. Let my family experience Your peace through me, and let Jesus Christ remain at the centre of our home. Amen. “Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church.” — Ephesians 5:25

We rejoice with you in this godly desire to lead your home well and we join you in lifting this prayer before the Father together in Jesus name.

Your heart to be a great husband and a loving present father is pleasing to God, for He ordained marriage and family to reflect His love and to bring Him glory. We thank God for the grace He has already shown you and for the wife and children He has entrusted to your care.

The Scripture you shared is the very foundation for a Christ centered home, Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it. Ephesians 5:25 That love is not a fleeting feeling but a daily laying down of self with patience, faithfulness, humility and responsibility. We are also reminded Husbands, love your wives, and do not be bitter against them. Colossians 3:19 and You fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but nurture them in the discipline and instruction of the Lord. Ephesians 6:4

We encourage you to continue to pursue Christ first, for as you abide in Him you will have the wisdom and strength to love and lead well. Let the Word dwell richly in your home, pray daily with and for your wife and children, and model repentance and forgiveness when you fall short. Remember that children are a heritage of Yahweh. The fruit of the womb is his reward. Psalm 127:3 and A righteous man walks in integrity. Blessed are his children after him. Proverbs 20:7 Your faithful quiet example of integrity, prayer, work and tenderness will teach them more than words alone. Choose each day as Joshua declared, as for me and my house, we will serve Yahweh. Joshua 24:15

We pray together for you.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for this husband and father and for the family You have given him. We ask that You fill him afresh with Your Holy Spirit, that he may love his wife as Christ loved the church, with sacrificial, pure and enduring love. Grant him wisdom beyond his own understanding, patience in moments of pressure, humility to listen and to admit when he is wrong, and courage to lead with gentleness and truth. Help him to be present with his children, to nurture them without provoking them, to instruct them in Your ways and to show them the peace of Christ through his words and actions. Guard his marriage and make it strong and faithful for life, a testimony of Your covenant love. Let Jesus Christ remain at the center of his home, and let his household be marked by Your peace, joy and righteousness. Strengthen him to watch, to stand firm in the faith, to be courageous and strong, and to let all that he does be done in love. 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 We ask this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, Amen.

Your desire to lead your home well really encouraged us. Thank you for letting us pray with you about this.

We love that you named patience, humility and faithfulness alongside love and wisdom. In a home, leadership often looks less like having the right answers and more like a quiet choice to put the good of your wife and children before your own comfort. It is serving first, listening first, and being willing to say I was wrong and try again.

One simple way to grow that kind of presence is to make it visible and regular. You might ask your wife this week what is one small way I can make you feel more loved and supported right now, and really listen without defending. And with your children, a short, consistent moment where they see you turning to the Lord, a brief prayer together at bedtime or before a meal, often teaches more than any talk about faith. Your example will shape them.

We are grateful for your heart to keep Jesus at the centre of your home. God delights in that surrender, and He is patient as you learn.

Father, thank You for this husband and father and for the family You have entrusted to him. Grow in him a gentle strength, a listening heart, and steady faithfulness. Give him wisdom for each day, help his wife and children to feel Your peace through his love, and keep their home rooted in You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your desire to be a great husband and a loving, present father is itself an evidence of grace at work in your soul, and it is a prayer which the Father delights to hear. For when the Divine Father is viewed aright, He becomes the object of our gratitude and not of our dread, and to be called to reflect His fatherhood in your own home is a high and holy calling.

You have well chosen the pattern, for the Scripture says, Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. As I have elsewhere preached, God was a Husband unto His people in that He set His special love upon them, in the faithfulness which He exhibited toward them, in that He communed with them most lovingly, and in that He took care to provide for them. So you are to love your wife not with a fleeting sentiment but with a faithful, providing, communing love that seeks her good as Christ seeks the good of His church. Let your love be constant, your word be true, and your daily fellowship with her be tender and unselfish.

And as a father, remember what is the fear that a well ordered, beloved child has of his own father. He has an awe of him which arises out of admiration of his character. If his father is what he should be, he is to that son a real model. Your children will esteem you and quietly admire you when they see in you Christlike wisdom, patience, humility and responsibility. They will learn filial fear and filial love not by your sternness alone but by seeing in you a reflection of the heavenly Father who is a better Father than the best of fathers could ever be to the best beloved of sons. A good man in a house is good store to the family. A holy husband, a praying father, these are the pillars and buttresses of the home, and they hedge the house about with prayer.

Therefore I would exhort you to walk closely with the Lord in secret. Will you speak unto the Father who hears in secret and pour forth petitions as the natural outflow of your soul. Let all your times of pleasure and all your times of care become incentives to prayer. Keep Jesus Christ at the centre not by a formal observance only, but by a vital communion, looking to Him who is the Everlasting Father of His people and the Head of the household of faith. He lives as Father and He does not lose His children, and because you are accepted in the Beloved, the Father loves you in Him and will strengthen you for this work.

Let us pray with you and for you.

Heavenly Father, we bless You as the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom every family in heaven and earth is named. We thank You for Your grace upon this Your servant. Fill him anew with Your Spirit, that he may love his wife even as Christ loved the church and gave Himself for it. Grant him wisdom to lead, patience to bear, humility to serve, faithfulness to endure, and responsibility to provide and to protect. Make him a model of Christ before his children, that they may see in him an honest and gentle reflection of Your own fatherly goodness and be drawn to follow the way of the Lord. Let Your peace rest upon his household, and let Jesus Christ be enthroned at the centre of that home, to whom with You and the Holy Spirit be glory forever. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your longing to be a faithful husband and present father is itself a gift from God, and I gladly join my prayers to yours. Scripture calls marriage a great mystery, a living picture of Christ and the Church, and calls husbands to love their wives just as Christ loved the Church and gave himself for her. That love is not harsh or domineering but protective, gentle, humble and self giving, placing a head upon the body to cherish and guard it.

I pray that the Lord will strengthen you to lead in this way. May He teach you patience when you are tired, wisdom when decisions are difficult, faithfulness in small things and great, humility to ask forgiveness when you fail, and responsibility to remain present with your wife and children day by day. As you seek to put Christ at the center of your home, invite Him to be present there first, commit your marriage and your children into His hands, and He will honor that trust.

Remember that marriage rightly lived is not a hindrance to holiness but a path to it. Use this holy covenant with reverence and moderation, seeking above all piety of soul, gentleness, true understanding and the fear of God, for nothing is more sweet and more pleasurable than a well ordered home built on virtue. And as a father, love with deep affection that does not hesitate to labor, to weep, to stay near and to travail for your children, so that they feel the peace of God through your steady love.

May God keep your home in His grace, make your love for your wife more pure each year, make you a joyful and faithful father, and let your family know the peace that comes from Christ dwelling among you. I thank God for your desire and I will continue to pray that He forms you more and more into the likeness of His Son, for His glory and for the good of those He has entrusted to you. Amen.
