We hear the heaviness and exhaustion in your request and we stand with you in this very difficult season in your marriage. We know how draining it is to try to fulfill your daily duties for work and rest while facing constant yelling, cursing, accusations and distrust in your own home. Marriage is a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman ordained by God, and it is meant to be a place of love, honor, peace and refuge, not strife. We commend you for wanting to lead your wife toward the Lord and for continuing to pray with her even when she uses that time to accuse you further. That perseverance matters to God.
Scripture is clear that the behavior you describe does not align with God's will for a wife or for any believer. Ephesians 4:29 says let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but only what is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear. Cursing, yelling and constant accusations grieve the Holy Spirit and tear down the home rather than build it up. Proverbs 15:1 reminds us a gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. A home filled with harsh words cannot have rest. We also want to gently rebuke the refusal to seek the Lord. When negative thoughts and accusations are allowed to rule the mind without being brought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, they become a foothold for the enemy. 2 Corinthians 10:5 tells us to throw down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. You are right that this is a spiritual battle, for Ephesians 6:12 says our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Your wife listening to the lies of the devil and refusing to go to the Lord is at the heart of this struggle, and she needs to repent and turn to Him for deliverance and renewal of her mind.
At the same time we encourage you as her husband to continue to walk in the calling God has given you. Ephesians 5:25 says husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the assembly, and gave himself up for it. Colossians 3:19 says husbands, love your wives, and don't be bitter against them. And 1 Peter 3:7 calls husbands to live with their wives with understanding, giving honor to the woman. This does not mean you accept abuse or sin without boundaries, but it means you do not return yelling for yelling or cursing for cursing. 1 Peter 3:9 says not rendering evil for evil, or insult for insult; but instead blessing. James 1:19 urges us to be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger. Even as you are wronged, God sees your faithfulness to provide, to seek rest, and to keep praying.
We notice you speak of going to the Lord, and we want to make sure it is clear that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and peace with God. Jesus said in John 14:6 I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is by the name of Jesus that we can rebuke the enemy, find forgiveness for sins, and have our prayers heard. If either of you has not fully surrendered to Jesus as Lord and Savior, we urge you to believe on Him, confess your sins, and receive His grace. That is the foundation for any healing in the home.
Practically, we encourage you to keep doing what is right before the Lord while also seeking wise help. Do not isolate in this battle. Bring this to your pastor or godly elders in your church for counsel and prayer and accountability for both of you. Set a gentle but firm boundary that yelling and cursing are not acceptable and that when calm conversation is not possible you will step away for a time to pray and cool down, seeking to live at peace as far as it depends on you as Romans 12:18 teaches. Guard your own heart from bitterness and exhaustion by casting your cares on Him, for Matthew 11:28 says come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Limit the constant television and distraction which feeds the flesh and leaves no room for the Word, and instead redeem the time with Scripture, prayer, and quiet before God. Continue to pray for your wife daily, but also pray with others who can intercede for you, and fast as the Lord leads.
We pray together with you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, and we lift up this brother and his wife to You. Lord, You see the lack of rest, the constant strife, the yelling and cursing and accusations that have filled this home, and You hear our brother crying out even as the screaming continues. We ask You to bring Your peace which surpasses all understanding to guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus according to Philippians 4:6-7. Give him physical rest for sleep and waking for work, and spiritual strength not to grow weary in doing good.
Lord, we pray for his wife. Soften her heart, convict her of the corrupt speech and the accusations, and deliver her from the lies of the enemy that hold her captive. Help her to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ and to turn to You instead of refusing You. Replace her negative thoughts with Your truth, replace fighting with gentleness, and replace the desire to watch television and quarrel with a hunger for Your Word and Your presence. Teach them both to love each other as You have commanded, to speak only what builds up, and to dwell together with understanding and honor.
We rebuke the spiritual forces of wickedness operating in this home in Jesus name, and we ask You to restore unity, trust, and godly communication. Provide godly counsel and support around them, and let their marriage reflect Christ and His church. Help this husband to lead with love and patience without becoming bitter, and help his wife to respect and trust her husband as unto You. Let Your will be done in this marriage and let Your name be glorified through their healing. In Jesus name we pray, amen.
We encourage you to remain steadfast, to keep praying in Jesus name, to stay in the Word daily, and to not give up on what God can do. Galatians 6:9 says let us not be weary in doing well, for we will reap in due season, if we don't give up. God is able to bring peace to this home and rest to your soul as you continue to trust Him and seek help from His people.
