Thank you for sharing this burden and giving us the privilege to stand with you in prayer. It is a wonderful thing that your daughter is pursuing a course in computer science and engineering, a field that touches the very depths of how our world now functions. Yet you are right to see that the understanding she needs does not ultimately begin with her intellect alone. Every good and perfect gift, including the ability to grasp complex subjects, comes from above.
The Scriptures remind us that true wisdom and understanding are treasures more valuable than silver or hidden riches. When we cry out for discernment and lift our voice for understanding, searching for it as we would for precious metals, then we begin to find what can only be given by the Lord. Out of His mouth come knowledge and understanding. So our first prayer is that your daughter would seek not only academic success but the God who holds all the facts of the universe together. By wisdom He framed the very logic she is studying; by understanding He established the principles that govern computation and design. When she inclines her ear to His wisdom and applies her heart to understanding, she will find favor and good insight in the sight of God and man.
There is a sharp difference between the shifting theories of men and the unchanging truth of God. Much of what passes for scientific confidence today is merely “science falsely so-called”, theories that are here today and altered tomorrow. But the knowledge of the Lord is sure, and He delights to give understanding to the simple. I pray that your daughter will not lean on her own intellect or become discouraged when subjects seem impenetrable. Instead, trust in the Lord with all her heart, and He will direct her paths. He can open the door of her understanding, making plain what once seemed hidden, just as He gave Daniel and his companions skill in all the learning of the Chaldeans. God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think, He can grant clarity where there is confusion and strength where there is weariness.
As we hold her up in prayer, we ask not only for academic breakthroughs but that she would gain a heart of wisdom. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding. When the inner life is ordered rightly before Him, the outer abilities often follow. I will pray that every difficulty she faces becomes an occasion to discover that the Lord gives wisdom; that He will teach her what no textbook alone can convey; and that her studies will ultimately become a means of drawing near to the One who designed the mind and all its capacities.
