We lift up your sister-in-law with heavy hearts, standing in the gap for her safety and the safe arrival of her child. The road to new life can be fraught with unexpected dangers, and we cry out to the Lord who holds every breath in His hands. "He will cover you with his feathers. Under his wings you will take refuge. His faithfulness is your shield and rampart. You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day" (Psalm 91:4-5). We declare God’s protection over her, the medical team, and the precious life she carries.
Father, we ask for Your divine intervention in this critical moment. Let Your angels encamp around them, guiding the vehicle safely and clearing the path to the hospital. Grant wisdom to the doctors and nurses who will receive her, that they may act with skill and precision. We pray for peace to flood her heart, calming any fear or anxiety, for "the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:7). May this trial turn into a testimony of Your faithfulness and mercy.
We also pray for the family awaiting news, grant them strength and patience, Lord. Let them feel Your presence in this waiting room of uncertainty. Remind them that You are the Author of life, and every child is a gift from You, knit together in the womb (Psalm 139:13-14). May this moment draw them closer to You, trusting in Your sovereignty even when circumstances are beyond their control.
If there is any unconfessed sin or unforgiveness in this situation, we ask for repentance and healing in Jesus’ name. Let nothing hinder the flow of Your grace and protection. How the heart is torn by such tidings, and yet how instant is the cry of the saints, lifting this dear sufferer before the throne of the heavenly grace. Let all prayer be made without doubting, for He who heareth the young ravens when they cry will not turn a deaf ear to the pleadings of His children for a sister in extreme peril. We join with you in fervent intercession, not with the murmurings of unbelief, but with the confidence of those who know that the Lord reigneth.
Cast out at once every dark and superstitious notion that this accident is a token of divine displeasure. It has been most absurdly stated that those overtaken by calamity are sinners above all others, but our Master hath forbidden such cruel arithmetic. We dare not measure the guilt of men by their misfortunes, nor trace the rod to some secret sin, for God’s judgments are a great deep, and His footsteps are not known. Let no whisper of that kind add to your sorrow, for it is not the gospel of Christ, but the torture of the ignorant.
What we know is this: the Lord Jesus delights to visit the hospital of the helpless. He walketh among the porches of Bethesda, and His eye is fixed upon those who have no man to help them. He is able to save to the uttermost, and there is never a patient in Christ’s Hospital who is turned away as incurable. Though this dear soul be brought low, and her bodily frame be shattered, yet the Great Physician can bind up the brokenhearted and heal all their wounds. Pray that she may be found in the way of the King, for even in stony places, His angels have charge over her, to bear her up lest she dash her foot against a stone. That protection is perpetual and personal, though it often suits our Father’s wisdom to try us by the way of rough paths, that we may learn to cling more closely to His hand.
We know not whether this life in the womb shall yet see the sunlight, nor what hours of suffering lie ahead, but we commit both mother and child into the hands of Him who doeth all things well. Should it please the Lord to grant a safe delivery and restoration to health, give Him all the praise; but should He take the sufferer suddenly from us, oh, may it be to her a sudden glory, a swift translation from the pains of earth to the bliss of the eternal. Our prayers shall not cease, and we implore the Spirit to fill you with a peace that passeth all understanding, anchoring your soul in the unchanging love of God in Christ Jesus. Amen.
