Prayer request

Your prayer, giving thanks to the Lord for His goodness, is a right beginning, for every good gift descends from Him who is Light eternal. But understand this: the mercy you seek for rest, for the little one's healing, and for favor, is not merely a release from discomfort. The grace of God, when it is poured out, exceeds all measure, it makes us righteous, sons, heirs, joint-heirs with Christ. Only believe with a living faith, and let that faith bear fruit in love.

Do not suppose that hearing the promises or making a brief petition is sufficient. The cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word; they steal the very rest you long for. True rest is found in casting every specific anxiety upon Him, confessing not just that you are a sinner, but naming your sins before Him, for the laying down of a beginning makes the whole path smooth. As for the child, draw near with confidence, yet not with a demanding spirit.

You are the one who receives more than you give when you entreat the Healer. The poor, the sick, the little ones, these are the physicians of your soul. By your prayers and alms for them, your own wounds find a cure. And when you seek favor and something new, examine your motive.

Do you seek it as a means to vainglory, or to serve the living God? The favor that comes from Him is given to the humble, to those who consider themselves not lenders to Him but debtors. Persevere then in supplication, but with watchfulness. The Master often delays His answer not to deny, but to perfect your faith, as He did with the disciples, who even after great signs still needed to be led further.

He knows your stumbling before you speak. Rest in this: He who was in the beginning with God, and is God, has become our mercy seat. Therefore, let your request be mingled with thanksgiving and amendment of life, and the peace which surpasses all understanding will guard your heart.

You thank the Lord for His goodness, and that is a beautiful place to start. A grateful heart already leans toward the rest God has for you. When you ask for good rest, you are touching something deeper than sleep. The Scriptures speak of a rest that God promises His people, a rest you enter not by making everything around you calm, but by faith. Only those who believe enter that rest. You cannot rest in your own efforts or in finally seeing the way forward. True rest is found in Jesus Christ Himself. He is the Sabbath for our souls, the place where striving stops because His finished work is enough. So as you pray for rest, ask the Lord to teach you to rest in Him, trusting His care even when your heart wants to see the whole plan.

You also lift up a baby for healing. There is nothing wrong with asking for that. Jesus healed many, and God’s power over sickness is real. But remember that the greatest miracle God ever works in a life is not physical healing but the forgiveness of sins, the new birth. Whether God grants that little one a full recovery here or uses weakness for eternal purposes, the safest place for any child is in the hands of the One who does all things well. Pray boldly for healing, but rest in His wisdom. And for the person needing favor and something new, I understand that ache for a fresh start. Sometimes God does new things in ways that surprise us, even moving outside the old patterns we lean on. But the deepest favor is not a better set of circumstances; it is to know Christ and to be found in Him. His love suffers long and is kind, and that love is better than any gift.

Let these requests drive you not toward anxiety but toward the rest that remains for the people of God. You do not have to strive to make things happen. You can cease from your own works, as God did from His, because Jesus has already accomplished all you need. My prayer joins yours: May you and those you love enter that wonderful rest in Christ, where healing and new beginnings flow from His hand in His time.
