Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You ask for self-love, but I bid you die to self. Until the old man is crucified with Christ, you cannot truly live. The soul that clings to its own comfort and praise builds on sand; the one that loses its life for Christ’s sake finds it. Seek not to admire yourself, but to see Christ formed in you. When He lives in you, every thought and act will be His, not yours. That is the only love worth having, the love that flows from union with Him, a love that forgets itself in obedience.

You pray for a new apartment, a car, financial doors to open. Yet the Lord whom you trust did not promise ease. He promised tribulation. The wide way, smooth and broad, leads to destruction; the narrow way, steep and stony, leads to life. Every righteous one passes through affliction. Do not then be surprised when blessings tarry or when trials come instead. These are not signs of God’s absence but of His purifying hand. He scourgeth every son whom He receiveth. So pray for endurance, not escape. Pray that in whatever room or vehicle you have, you may be found faithful, with a heart set on the things above. Delight in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart, but only when those desires are first cleansed in the fire of His love, until you want nothing but His will.

As for a godly wife: this is a good desire, but examine your readiness. The world tells you to seek a partner who completes you, but the Spirit calls you to become a man who can love as Christ loved the Church, giving himself up for her. Are you daily dying to anger, lust, and selfishness? Are you mortifying the sins that make marriage a burden rather than a blessing? The gift of the Spirit is enough for every need; a spouse is a help, but not a savior. Wait on the Lord’s timing, and in that waiting, become the kind of man who will not seek a wife for his own comfort alone, but who will lead her in holiness and wash her with the Word.

Above all, I urge you: make your chief prayer not for things, but for a broken and contrite heart. The sorrow of the world worketh death, but godly sorrow worketh repentance unto salvation. Let your tears be for your sins, for this is the mourning that Christ blesses, and it yields a joy that no new home or car can give. The harlot who wept at Jesus’ feet found more honor than many who thought themselves pure, because her sorrow was a fire of love. Ask God to grant you that fire, and then whether you have abundance or little, you will have Him, and He is the true treasure.

Do not lose heart. Keep asking, keep seeking, keep knocking. But let your requests be refined on the altar of surrender. Say with Paul, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me.” Then the doors He opens will lead you into life indeed, and your heart will find its rest in no earthly place, but in the bosom of the One who loved you and gave Himself for you.

Your prayer reveals a heart genuinely seeking God’s direction, and that is a good place to begin. Yet I want to offer a gentle and honest word about the way you are framing “self-love.” Our culture often defines self-love as looking inward, building up self-esteem, and meeting your own needs first. But the Scriptures show us a different kind of love, one that is not self-centered, but self-giving. The word we find in the New Testament for this divine love, agape, is not a feeling or a mere attraction. It is a sacrificial, others-focused love that seeks the good of the beloved at cost to oneself. That is the love God has for us, and it is the love He calls us to walk in.

When you ask for help developing self-love, I would gently turn your gaze away from yourself and toward the One who already knows you completely and yet loves you perfectly. You don’t need to manufacture love for yourself; you need to receive and rest in His love. As you grow in your relationship with God, His Spirit produces fruit in your life, and the first mark of that fruit is love. Not a shallow self-affection, but a deep, secure love for God and for others. That includes a right, healthy care for your own soul and body as belonging to Him, but never as an end in itself. The way to true confidence and peace is not by focusing on self but by fixing your eyes on Jesus and letting His love transform you from the inside out.

Now, you also long for a loving, God-fearing wife. That desire is good. But I want you to understand what that kind of love actually looks like, so that you are prepared to be that kind of husband. The love that builds a lasting marriage isn’t primarily an emotional high or physical attraction, those things, by themselves, are often self-seeking and can quickly fade. The love that holds a marriage together is the same agape love with which Christ loved the church: He gave Himself up for her. He sacrificed His own comfort to cleanse her, nourish her, and cherish her. A husband who loves his wife this way isn’t looking for what he can get, but what he can give. And here is the paradox: when you love your wife like that, you are actually loving yourself. You are doing your own soul good, because God has designed marriage so that as you pour out selfless love, you become more like Christ and you receive back a depth of companionship that nothing else can match.

So rather than praying simply for a wife who will fulfill you, I encourage you to pray that God will shape you into a man who knows how to love like that. A man who will make his future wife feel so secure and cherished that she will willingly walk beside him. The wife who is loved with Christlike devotion blossoms in remarkable ways. And when a husband loves sacrificially and a wife responds with respect and submission as unto the Lord, marriage becomes a taste of heaven.

The same principle applies to your request for a new apartment, a car, and financial provision. It is not wrong to ask for these things. Our God cares about our daily lives. But let your chief delight be in the Lord, not in the gifts. Psalm 37:4 holds a beautiful promise, but its condition is vital: delight yourself in Him. As you find your joy, your identity, and your satisfaction in God Himself, He will place His desires within your heart and then fulfill them in His perfect timing. That might mean He gives you exactly what you’ve asked for, or it might mean He changes your desires to match something far better. Either way, the peace you seek will not come from circumstances but from trusting His Fatherly love.

So press in to know God’s love more deeply. Let it be the foundation of your confidence. Let it be the source from which you love others, including a future spouse. Leave behind the world’s hollow version of love that is really just self-seeking, and embrace the real thing, the love that gives, that serves, that never fails. This is the love that has been poured out for you at the cross, and it is the love that will make you the man God wants you to be.
