Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing your heart and your love for your son. We are joining you in prayer for him and we understand the burden you carry as you see him struggling.
We take comfort in knowing that distance and difficulty are no barrier to Jesus. When He was in Galilee a father came to Him about his sick son, and Jesus simply spoke the word, and miles away the Spirit of God brought healing to that child. In the same way we can bring your son before the Lord in prayer, trusting that Christ can work in his heart and circumstances even when we cannot be with him or fix what is wrong ourselves.
Our prayer for your son is first that he would come to know and believe with confidence that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. Scripture was given so that we might believe this truth and by believing have life in His name. To honor the Son is to honor the Father, and no one can truly know the Father without receiving the Son. We pray that your son would put his faith in Jesus, that he would be born of God and find the power to overcome the pressures and troubles of this world through that faith.
Jesus welcomes people from every background and every age, and little children were especially drawn to Him. We pray that your son would hear His invitation to follow Him, to deny himself and walk in His way. At times Jesus tells us to do what feels impossible, as He told a helpless man to rise and walk, and then He gives the strength to do it. We pray that your son would hear the voice of Jesus calling him to rise and follow, and that the Lord would give him the desire and ability to walk in that path.
We also pray for the kindness you desire for him, that he would be kind to others and to himself. That kindness flows from knowing how God has shown kindness to us when we were lost. As a king once sought out the lame son of his friend to show him grace and restore to him a place at his table, so God seeks us through Christ to save what was lost and to show us mercy. When your son understands the mercy God has shown him in Christ, he will be better able to show that same grace to others and to receive grace for himself.
So we pray that God would draw your son close, guard his heart, lead him in the path of Jesus, and form in him a gentle and kind spirit. May he grow in faith, know that he is loved, and learn to walk in the life and strength that only Jesus the Son of God can give.
