Thank you for sharing your heart so openly and with such honesty about this painful season. Your willingness to take accountability, to name the sin for what it is, and to seek healing for your marriage is itself a sign of God working in you.
Scripture teaches that marriage is honorable and that faithfulness within it preserves holiness. When that covenant is broken, the sin is not only against your husband but against God Himself, which is why the hurt runs so deep and why the guilt and shame feel so heavy. God does not treat this lightly, and neither should we. At the same time, God has not left us without hope. While there is no second washing like baptism, He has given us repentance as a spiritual bath that can wipe away the stains of the soul when we come to Him with godly sorrow. That godly sorrow is different from despair. It does not end in shame that paralyzes, but works repentance unto salvation, a repentance that brings no regret, because it turns us fully toward Christ for forgiveness and toward a changed life.
It is good that you are pursuing personal counseling and that you both intend to pursue couples counseling. Taking responsibility, establishing clear boundaries, and seeking to remove yourself from the environment where the sin occurred is a wise and biblical step to flee temptation and guard what you are rebuilding. Healing after unfaithfulness takes time. For your husband, the wound is deep and will need patience, truthfulness, and consistent faithfulness to heal. For you, repentance means continuing to walk in the light, without concealing, and learning to live in the forgiveness Christ gives rather than in condemnation.
