Prayer request for a man as well as his sister. He ran off from his girlfriend that's been married several times. She had been threatening to call the police on him. When he's been drinking. She took his truck away from him again. Please pray about his addiction bondage and issues with alcohol demons. I believe that his grandpa was a medicine man long ago and now he and his oldest sister has had spiritual bondage to same alcohol addictions. They both had said at different times sometimes that they want to get sober. Their grandpa may have conjured demons long ago. For a tribe. Before the grandpa started trying to turn Christian. The bondage to alcohol that they have issues with may have been from generational curse of the addiction as well because their parents and the grand parents also had had same addictions. Please pray for them.

We have heard your burden for this man and his sister and we join together in bringing them before the throne of grace in Jesus name. We are moved by your compassion for them and by their own expressed desire at times to get sober, for that desire is a work of God drawing them toward freedom.

We want to speak plainly about the bondage you have described. The Word tells us Wine is a mocker, and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise. Proverbs 20:1 and also Don't be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:18 Drunkenness is not only a health issue but is sin that opens the door to further sin, to violence, to broken relationships and to demonic oppression. The threats to call the police and the taking of his truck show how alcohol has already brought chaos and loss of stewardship into his life. We also see that his relationship with a girlfriend who has been married several times is not in line with God's design. We believe marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman and that courtship should be with the goal of finding a godly spouse who is a believer in Christ, not simply living as boyfriend and girlfriend. If they have been living together or engaging in intimacy outside of marriage, that is fornication and if adultery has been involved through unbiblical divorce and remarriage, that must be repented of. God calls us to flee sexual immorality and to pursue purity, for the body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. We pray this man will turn from both drunkenness and any sexual sin and will seek a life of holiness if God wills for him to be married in the future.

You mentioned a family history of alcohol addiction and a grandfather who was a medicine man who may have conjured spirits for the tribe before trying to turn toward Christ. The Scripture is clear that There shall not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one who uses divination, one who practices sorcery, or an enchanter, or a sorcerer, or a charmer, or a consulter with a familiar spirit, or a wizard, or a necromancer. For whoever does these things is an abomination to Yahweh. Deuteronomy 18:10-12 Such practices do invite demonic influence and can bring patterns of sin into a family. Yet we want to give you hope from the Word. While Exodus 20:5 speaks of iniquity visiting generations who hate God, the Scripture also says The soul who sins, he shall die. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father. Ezekiel 18:20 and more importantly Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us. Galatians 3:13 and Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5:17 There is no generational curse that is stronger than the blood of Jesus. The bondage they feel is real, but it is not unbreakable. If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36 and For sin will not have dominion over you. Romans 6:14 We rebuke the lie that they are destined to remain addicts because of their grandfather or parents. Each person is accountable before God and each person can be delivered through repentance and faith in Christ.

We notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ and we must lovingly address this because there is no other way to approach God. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 It is only through confessing our sin, believing that Jesus died for our sins and rose again, and trusting Him as Lord that we receive forgiveness and power to overcome sin and the devil. We urge this man and his sister to call upon the name of Jesus for salvation and deliverance, for If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

So we pray together now. Father in heaven, we come before You only in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son. We lift up this man and his sister to You. We ask that You convict them of sin and grant them godly sorrow that leads to repentance. Break the chains of alcohol addiction in their lives. Deliver them from every demonic influence and oppression that has come through drunkenness and through the occult practices of their ancestors. We command in Jesus name that every spirit of addiction and bondage must leave them and we ask You to fill them with Your Holy Spirit. Help them to Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7 Give them a hatred for sin and a hunger for righteousness. We pray You will remove them from ungodly relationships and set them on a path of purity. If it is Your will for this man to marry, provide him a godly wife who loves You and help him to pursue courtship in a way that honors You. Provide for his sister a godly husband if she is not married, and help them both to seek spouses who will encourage them in sobriety and faith. We ask that You restore what has been lost, give them a church family that will hold them accountable, provide counselors and believers who will walk with them daily, and remind them that No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 1 Corinthians 10:13 We pray they will choose the way of escape in Christ today. Save them, cleanse them, make them new creations and let their lives testify to Your delivering power. In Jesus name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to share the gospel with them, to urge them to confess with their mouths that Jesus is Lord and believe in their hearts that God raised Him from the dead, to turn from alcohol completely, to destroy any objects connected to occult or medicine man practices, to seek a Bible believing church, to find pastoral counseling and Christian recovery support, and to walk in daily prayer and the Word. God is able to do exceedingly more than we can ask and He desires their freedom.

Thank you for carrying this brother and his sister to the Lord so faithfully. We hear how heavy this has felt for you, watching them struggle with alcohol for a long time, wanting to get sober at moments and then being pulled back in, and seeing that same struggle in their parents and grandparents.

That desire they have both voiced at different times to get sober matters. It shows there is still a part of them that wants something different, and that is often where change can begin to take root with the right support around them.

We are praying with you for their freedom and for wisdom for you as you care about them. Addiction is complex and is shaped by many influences, family patterns, biology, habits and environment, but susceptibility does not have to mean inevitability. With help, people can make choices toward recovery, especially when they are not trying to do it alone.

If they are open, one steady next step is helping each of them connect with a safe, consistent community, a trusted pastor, a counselor experienced with substance use, and a recovery group like Celebrate Recovery or Alcoholics Anonymous where a sponsor can walk alongside them. If there are withdrawal symptoms or medical concerns with drinking, we also encourage them to see a medical professional promptly alongside prayer, not instead of it.

Father, we lift this brother and his sister to You. You see their struggle and their desire to be free. Surround them with protection and with people who will walk with them honestly and kindly. Give them clarity, courage for the next right step, and hope that change is possible with You. Guide those who love them to know how to help well. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your request has been brought before the Lord with sorrow and with hope, for the bondage you describe is heavy and yet the deliverance of God is greater still.

We hear of this man and his sister, both entangled in the sin and slavery of strong drink, a pattern that has marked their parents and grandparents before them. You speak of a grandfather who walked in the ways of a medicine man and of fears that demons were conjured and a curse passed down. Scripture teaches that the curse has a cause, and that every offender comes under the curse by his own sin and by being a child of Adam. The curse causeless shall not come, but the curse for sin is overwhelming and just, and under it no man can stand. Yet the good news we are constrained to declare is this, that Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the Law, being made a curse for us. He bore in His own body the penalty that we deserved, that we might be bought out from under the curse as slaves are bought with a price. There is no generational chain so strong that His blood cannot break, for He has delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of His dear Son.

Know then that deliverance from the guilt of sin and deliverance from the power of sin are both the work of God alone. Where we look for justification, there must we also look for sanctification. No man can deliver himself by his own resolve, though it is a mercy that both this man and his sister have at times said they want to be sober. That desire must be turned into a cry to Christ, for He feels that if he ever rises from his despondency, he can never dare to take an atom of the honor of deliverance to himself, it must be of free grace only. God has not only invented a way of deliverance, but He has found a ransom. When a sinner is going down to the pit, God proclaims, I have found a ransom, and that ransom is His own Son. The clock of mercy strikes in heaven the hour of deliverance when a soul looks to Jesus Christ alone for salvation, for salvation is through Him alone and by no other name.

We will pray for this man and for his sister that the Lord would grant them true repentance and living faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, that they would be born again and so know an experimental deliverance, that they can say He has delivered us. We will pray that they be loosed from the love of drink, which rots the bones and embitters the soul, and that they be kept from returning to it even occasionally by way of pleasure, for that would prove a stranger to the deliverance Christ gives to His people. We will pray that they seek the help of a faithful local church, honest accountability, and counsel to put away strong drink entirely and to walk in sobriety.

Concerning the man and the woman he has been living with, we cannot ask God to bless a union outside the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, for sex and living together belong within that covenant. We will instead pray that God will bring conviction where there has been sin, and will lead them both to holiness, whether that be to separate and live in purity, or to repent and, if it be lawful and right before God, to enter into that holy covenant in the fear of the Lord. We pray also for protection from further harm and strife, from threats and the misuse of the law, and that the loss of his truck and these present troubles may be used by the Lord as chastening to awaken his conscience.

Let us pray together.

O Lord God, who alone can bring forth Thy people with a strong hand, look in mercy upon this man and his sister. They are under the curse by nature and by practice, and they are held by a cruel bondage to drink. Lord, redeem them from the curse by Him who was made a curse for them. Thou hast found a ransom, Thy Son who hung upon the tree. Apply His blood to them, forgive their iniquities, and break the power of sin in them. Bring them forth from this pit and set their feet upon the Rock. Grant them godly sorrow that worketh repentance, and a new heart that loathes the cup they once loved. Keep them from the paths that lead back to drunkenness, and surround them with Thy people who will speak truth and show mercy. Work in their family that what was sown in darkness may be turned into a testimony of Thy grace, that they may live and declare the works of the Lord. And for all that has been disordered in their lives, bring order according to Thy holy Word, to the praise of Thy name. We ask this not because they are worthy, but because Christ is worthy, and His sacrifice is sufficient. Amen.

Rest your soul upon Him and God will yet come to your deliverance.

We have heard your request and we are bringing this man and his sister before the Lord with you in prayer.

We understand the heaviness of this situation, the struggle with alcohol, the instability in his relationship, the loss of his truck, the conflict and threats, and the long pattern of addiction that has touched parents and grandparents. We also hear your concern about spiritual bondage and the family history with a medicine man background. These are deep burdens, and it is right to bring them to Jesus Christ, who alone can save and deliver.

Scripture teaches that all of us were under a curse because no one can keep the whole law perfectly, as it is written, Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things written in the book of the law. But the good news of the gospel is that Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law by being made a curse for us when He hung on the tree. He did no violence and no deceit was in His mouth, yet He took upon Himself the curse that was ours so that by His death and resurrection He could rescue us from sin, death, and judgment and give us forgiveness and new life. This means that those who put their faith in Christ are not left under a generational curse that cannot be broken. What is passed down in families is often a pattern of sin, trauma, and learned behavior, and the enemy does seek to keep people in bondage, but the cross of Christ is stronger. Where grace comes, there is forgiveness, and where forgiveness is given through faith, punishment is removed and we are made heirs of the promise as sons and daughters of God. Deliverance does not come from fearing what a grandparent may have done long ago, but from trusting what Christ has done once for all.

For this reason we pray for salvation first. We pray that both this man and his sister would hear the invitation of Jesus, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest, and that they would turn from sin and put their whole trust in Him alone for forgiveness and new life. We pray that God would break the power of addiction in their lives, that He would give them a true desire for sobriety and the strength to walk in it day by day, that He would free them from any spiritual oppression and fill them with His Holy Spirit. We pray that they would be connected to a faithful local church where they can be known, discipled, and held accountable, and that they would receive wise counsel and practical help for alcohol dependence, including medical and pastoral support as needed.

We also pray about the relationship you described. God loves this man and his girlfriend and desires what is holy and good for them. Because marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman and the proper place for sexual union and living together, we do not ask God to bless a relationship outside of that design. Instead we pray that God would bring conviction where needed, healing where there has been harm, and wisdom for right next steps. We pray that if they are to have any future together it would be pursued in purity, honesty, and commitment according to Scripture, and if not, that God would give clear direction and protection for both, and an end to threats, violence, and drunken conflict. We pray for safety, for honest work, for stewardship of what God has given, and for peace with others.

Heavenly Father, we come to You in the name of Jesus Christ, Your Son, who alone saves. We lift up this man and his sister to You. You see their struggle with alcohol and the bondage they feel. Lord, have mercy on them. Forgive their sins, deliver them from darkness, and give them new hearts that love what You love. Break the chains of addiction and set them free indeed. Help them to want sobriety for Your glory and to walk in it with Your help. Surround them with people who will speak the truth in love, encourage them, and walk with them toward wholeness. Guard them from the lies of the enemy and remind them that Christ has redeemed all who believe from the curse of the law. Give them rest as they come to Jesus. We ask also for wisdom and safety in this troubled relationship, and that Your will for holiness and peace would be done. Lead them to repentance, faith, and a new life in Christ. Amen.

Your request for this man and his sister has been brought before the Lord in prayer, and I am grateful you shared their struggle so openly.

I hear how heavy this is, the pattern of alcohol bondage that has touched the grandparents, the parents, and now this brother and sister, the background of the grandfather's involvement with spiritual practices for his tribe, and the fear that something conjured long ago is still holding this family. It is also clear that both of them have at times expressed a desire to be sober, which is a hopeful sign that God is already working in their hearts.

Scripture helps us understand what a curse truly is. When Adam sinned, God's curse came upon humanity and upon the earth itself, bringing hard labor, pain, and thorns from the ground. Later the law declared its own curse, that everyone who does not keep the whole law perfectly remains under condemnation, and as James says, to fail in one point is to be guilty of all. In that sense every one of us is under the curse by nature, not only because of family history but because of our own sin.

The good news is what Christ has done about that curse. It is written that cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree, and Jesus willingly hung on the cross and became a curse for us. He bore the curse of God against sin in our place. The crown of thorns pressed on His brow was a fitting sign of this, since thorns were part of the curse on the earth, and He wore them to show He was carrying that curse for us. Galatians tells us Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, so that the blessing promised to Abraham might come to us through faith and we might receive the promise of the Spirit.

This is why no human curse, no enchantment, and no power from the past can ultimately prevail over those who belong to God. When a king hired Balaam to curse Israel, God told him plainly, you shall not curse the people for they are blessed, and Balaam had to confess that there is no divination that can stand against those whom God has blessed. God is not a man that He should lie. If God blesses, no one can reverse it. The same is true now. An ancestor's sin or involvement with dark spiritual practices can leave a painful pattern and open doors to bondage, but it does not have the final word over a grandchild who turns to Christ in faith.

What this brother and sister need most is not just freedom from a family pattern but personal redemption through Jesus Christ alone. Freedom does not come by trying harder to keep rules, but by trusting in Jesus who took the curse for us, confessing sin, repenting, and receiving new life through Him. That includes turning from drunkenness, which Scripture warns enslaves and destroys, and walking in the power of the Holy Spirit day by day.

I have prayed that God would draw both of them to true salvation if they have not yet trusted Christ, that He would break the hold of alcohol in their lives, and that He would deliver them from any spiritual oppression as they call on the name of Jesus. I have prayed that the desire they have expressed to get sober would grow into a settled decision to follow Christ, to seek help within a faithful local church, and to pursue practical support and accountability for addiction. I have also prayed for wisdom and protection in the difficult situation with the former girlfriend, the threats, and the conflict over property, that God would lead this man away from an unstable and ungodly relationship and toward holiness and peace.

Encourage them, as you have opportunity, to seek Jesus first, to confess their need to Him openly, to turn from sin, and to stay close to believers who can walk with them toward sobriety and spiritual health. Christ has already borne the curse, and His grace is sufficient to redeem and restore those who come to Him in faith.
