Prayer request for a family

We join you in lifting up this entire family before the throne of grace, for we know the pain and destruction that alcohol can bring into a home and we grieve with you over this struggle.
The Word of God is clear that drunkenness is not in alignment with His will for us, and that we are called to sobriety and self control. As it is written, Wine is a mocker and beer is a brawler. Whoever is led astray by them is not wise Proverbs 20:1. And also, Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit Ephesians 5:18. We are called to be sober and self controlled, for our adversary the devil walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour 1 Peter 5:8. When alcohol takes hold, it harms the body which is meant to be a temple of the Holy Spirit, for we are told, Or don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s 1 Corinthians 6:19-20.
We want to gently but firmly rebuke the stronghold of alcohol in this family, not to condemn, but to call toward repentance and freedom, for the works of the flesh are evident, which are adultery, sexual immorality, uncleanness, lustfulness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, strife, jealousies, outbursts of anger, rivalries, divisions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these Galatians 5:19-21. Yet there is hope, for such were some of you, but you were washed. But you were sanctified. But you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and in the Spirit of our God 1 Corinthians 6:11. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it 1 Corinthians 10:13.
We also notice that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If we confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised him from the dead, we will be saved Romans 10:9. So we encourage every member of this family to place their faith in Jesus, to confess their sins and turn from them, and to receive His forgiveness and power to overcome.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, lifting up this precious family that has been bound by alcohol. Lord, we ask for Your mercy and Your deliverance. Break the chains of addiction that have held them, and set them free indeed, for whom the Son sets free is free indeed. We pray that You would convict each heart of the need for sobriety and fill them instead with Your Holy Spirit. Give them a hatred for what has destroyed their health, their relationships, and their peace, and give them a hunger for righteousness. Help them to present their bodies as a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God Romans 12:1. Surround this family with godly counsel, with a Bible believing church, with pastors and believers who will hold them accountable and walk with them daily. Provide for any practical help they need, whether counseling, community support, or medical care, and give them strength moment by moment to choose self control, which is a fruit of Your Spirit Galatians 5:22-23. Restore what the enemy has stolen in this family, bring reconciliation where there has been strife, and let their home become a testimony of Your redeeming power. We pray that each one would call upon the name of Jesus and be saved, and that they would walk in newness of life. We trust that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think. In the mighty and holy name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.
We encourage this family to seek the Lord daily in prayer and in His Word, to confess openly to one another and to a trusted pastor, and to remain accountable in fellowship, for we are told to bear one another’s burdens Galatians 6:2. Do not walk this road alone. God is near to the brokenhearted and He desires to heal and restore completely.

One of the steadiest helps for families walking through this is not trying to fix it in isolation but having a safe, consistent community around you. That might be a trusted pastor, a counselor, or a recovery support group in your area. Many churches offer groups like Celebrate Recovery, and many communities have AA and family support groups that walk alongside loved ones too. If there are health concerns or dependence, we gently encourage you alongside prayer to help them connect with a medical professional or counselor who can guide next steps safely.
You are doing a faithful thing by praying and staying engaged while also holding healthy boundaries. It is understandable to feel torn between hope and weariness, and God sees both.

Your request has been heard and we have brought this burdened family before the Lord in prayer, for He alone is able to deliver from the pit.
There is a higher restoration than recovery of the body, and there is a sickness of the soul which is far worse than disease of the body. That sickness which holds a man or a whole household in the grip of strong drink is a cruel bondage, and it brings untold miseries into the family. Yet blessed be His name, there is such a thing as recovery from soul sickness even for those who appear to be going down into the pit. Deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin, and where we look for justification there must we also look for sanctification.
We do not look to the will of man nor to resolutions of the flesh, for it is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy. He has invented a way of deliverance and He has found a ransom. That ransom is His own Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, who was slain that captives might be brought forth. Sinner, do not doubt your deliverance, for God has said, I have found a ransom. What the family cannot do for itself, free grace can do, and He can make deliverance effectual and in very deed bring them forth.
Therefore we pray that the Lord would have mercy upon this whole household. That He would show them their need of Christ and draw each heart to trust in Him alone for salvation. That He would break the power of this sin and grant true repentance and a hunger for holiness, so that they may prove they are indeed delivered by walking in newness of life. That He would give strength for each day, for recovery is often slow, and as they grow a little stronger, they may acknowledge in each increase of strength that the Lord has a new claim upon their affection.
It is a glorious thing to have such a well as that in the family, where in prayer with the children you can bring all the necessities of the household before God, and mention each child and all the troubles of the past and all the expected difficulties of the coming day. We exhort this family to turn to that well. Let the household be gathered for prayer, let the Word of God be read, let each name be carried before the throne of grace, for like as a father pities his children, so the Lord pities them that fear Him, and He especially pities His poor tried and troubled ones.
We will continue to pray that this affliction, which the Lord has permitted, may become the occasion for a greater song of deliverance. We have been delivered from worse enemies and saved by a greater salvation than any earthly conquest, and we pray that this family may yet live to declare the works of the Lord and say, He brought us forth with a mighty hand.
