Prayer over past sins

Your willingness to bring these past sins into the light before God is a serious and right step, and God sees the weight you have carried. A troubled conscience is not a small thing. Conscience acts as a tribunal within us, and when it accuses us we cannot find rest by pretending we do not hear it or by trying to cover it with other things. That restlessness you describe, the sense of being hounded, is the soul asking for true cleansing, not just relief.

There is cleansing, and it is through the blood of Jesus Christ alone, the Lamb of God who takes away sin. Scripture teaches that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us. That cleansing is not only an outward washing but a cleansing of the conscience through His word and His sacrifice, so that those who have been washed can come before Him with a clean conscience. This is why this is a time for honest confession, both before God and, as you noted is hard, face to face with a trusted pastor or mature believer who can pray with you, keep confidence, and help you walk in accountability. It is hard to speak these things aloud, yet bringing them into the light before another faithful person breaks the secrecy that gives sin power and helps the conscience find peace.

God's forgiveness does not mean we ask Him to bless what was wrong or to leave us where we were. His grace forgives and it also trains us to turn away and live differently. That means forsaking the path that led to these sins, choosing restraint and holiness instead of returning to what defiled the conscience, and seeking to live with simplicity and sincerity before God. The true glory and blessing we should seek is not a vague favor or spectacle, but the quiet testimony of a conscience that no longer condemns us because we are walking in the light, forgiven and being made new.

I will stand with you in prayer now:

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, I thank You that this soul has come to You in honesty. I ask that You grant full repentance and faith, and wash away every sin by the blood of Jesus. Cleanse the conscience that has been burdened, and grant peace that comes from being forgiven. Give strength to turn completely from what is past and from every relationship or pattern that is outside Your good design for marriage and for purity, which You gave for one man and one woman within lifelong covenant. Heal the wounds brought into the family, bring wise and godly counsel face to face, and guard this life from the powers of darkness by helping it walk in truth, humility, and obedience. Teach a gentle and renewed heart, and let the future be marked by holiness and a clean conscience before You. All this I ask with thanksgiving in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

Continue to seek a local pastor for ongoing confession, prayer, and discipleship, so you are not alone in this walk. God draws near to those who come to Him with a humble and repentant heart.
