When the paralytic was lowered through the roof, our Lord saw their faith, the faith of those who carried him, and He healed.

That same Lord who sees the sparrow fall is not indifferent to the suffering of this animal you love. Bring your petition before Him with that same urgent faith, but let it not be a frantic demand. The dog, when he waits for his master, though gnawed by hunger, shows a patience we often lack. Imitate that creature’s trust.

God, who provides for the irrational beast, will do what is merciful. Lay your care at His feet, and say, “Lord, You who gave this companion, restore it if it be Your will,” and let your heart be quiet.
