Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your prayer to return to the Lord has been heard, and we join with you to bring it before God with thankfulness that you desire to come back to Him.
God is long suffering and calls us to repentance, and He has shown by every means that He desires us to turn to Him. Do not fall into despair, for there is repentance and it has great power. Even one who has fallen into the depth of wickedness can be set free and restored if he will lay hold on repentance with a genuine purpose of heart. The prophet asks, does not he that falls rise again, or he that turns away turn back to God. As an example, Manasseh had done innumerable evils, yet after so great wickedness he washed them away by repentance and consideration. So too, godly sorrow works repentance unto salvation, a repentance that brings no regret. It is not mere tears or words, but a true sorrow for sin that turns from it and seeks Christ. Esau sought the blessing with tears but did not repent as he ought, for his heart still intended evil. Let your sorrow be the godly kind that turns fully to the Lord and bears fruit in amendment of life.
We pray for you now that God in His mercy will grant you true repentance and faith unto the Lord Jesus Christ, for salvation is through Him alone. We pray that He will heal your backsliding and restore you unto Himself, that Christ may be formed in you again, and that He will deliver you from every bondage and stronghold of the enemy. We pray that He will expose and cause to fail every scheme of the devil and of those who do you harm, and that He will protect you, help you, and provide for you through your trials. We pray also for the healing of your body and for your health, that God will restore you and strengthen you according to His will.
Take comfort that the Lord gives time as an opportunity to return, and use this time to gather the fruit of amendment. Continue in careful hearing of the word and continual recollection of it, with fortitude and trust in Him, turning from all that entangles the soul. The Church is a spiritual bath where the stains of the soul are washed away by the many ways of repentance that God has given. Remain near to hearing, to prayer, and to the fellowship of believers, and do not neglect the healing treatment of the word, for even if the fruit seems delayed, God can bring abundant fruit in due season.
May the Lord hear your cry, forgive your sins through Jesus Christ, deliver you, heal you, and keep you in His grace as you walk with Him.
