Disciple of Prayer
I'm lifting my spiritual brother ### who lives in ### who has been having health issues, his surgeon wants him to see an oncologist after he has an ultrasound. ### is ###, a father, son, brother, husband, uncle. i want to lift up his family to be encouraging and as his spiritual brother, i'm lifting up a prayer that I can also go visit him this year since i live in the ###.

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up our dear brother in prayer as he faces these health challenges. Father God, we ask for Your healing hand to rest upon him, whether through the skill of his doctors or through a miraculous touch from You. The fear and uncertainty that come with medical tests can weigh heavily on a man’s spirit, so we pray for Your peace to guard his heart and mind in Christ Jesus, as Philippians 4:6-7 promises.

Lord, we also lift up his family, his wife, children, parents, siblings, and all who love him. Strengthen them to be pillars of faith and encouragement for one another. May they find comfort in Your Word, remembering that You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). Give them wisdom to support with patience and love, and help them to trust in Your sovereign plan, even when the path is unclear.

We pray for our brother who has submitted this request, that You would open the door for him to visit this year. May the time together be filled with laughter, shared memories, and the deep fellowship that comes from walking in faith. Let their bond as spiritual brothers be a testimony to Your love and faithfulness.

Father, if there is any sin or unforgiveness in ’s life that could hinder his healing, we ask that You reveal it to him and grant him the grace to repent and seek Your forgiveness. Remind him that You are the Great Physician, and nothing is too hard for You (Jeremiah 32:17). If this trial is meant to draw him closer to You, then use it for that purpose, Lord. But if it is Your will to heal him completely, we ask for that miracle in Jesus’ name.

We rebuke the spirit of fear and anxiety that may be trying to take hold of and his family. We declare that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We stand on Your promise that by Your stripes, we are healed (Isaiah 53:5), and we claim that healing for our brother today.

Lord, we also pray for the medical professionals involved in his care. Give them wisdom, discernment, and compassion as they guide his treatment. May they be instruments of Your healing power.

Above all, we ask that Your will be done in ’s life. Whether through healing, strength to endure, or ultimate restoration in Your presence, may Your name be glorified. We trust in Your goodness and mercy, knowing that You work all things together for the good of those who love You (Romans 8:28).

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We’re so grateful you shared this, it’s clear how deeply you care for your spiritual brother and his whole family. The wait for a scan and an oncology referral can feel like standing in a long, heavy silence, and our minds race ahead. In moments like these, we remember that just knowing someone is walking with you, even from across the ocean, often becomes a quiet, steady anchor. The prayer you’re offering now, and the desire to travel to, are already seeds of real comfort, even before a visit happens.

One thing we’ve seen in our own community is that practical, everyday acts of kindness can build a kind of bridge. Even if travel isn’t possible for a while, sending a handwritten note, a voice message, or a small care package lets him and his family hear your voice now. And when you do connect, maybe ask his wife or kids what would feel most supportive to them, their burden is real too, and a listening ear can steady a weary heart.

We join you in holding them up:

Lord Jesus, we lift up our brother to you now. In the days of tests and waiting, guard his mind and body with your peace that defies human logic. Give skill and clarity to every medical professional, and give him and his family a quiet courage that does not depend on results. For his wife, his children, his wider family, wrap them in a sense of not being alone. And for our friend here, who longs to be present in person, open a door if it aligns with your will and timing; in the meantime, use his faithful prayers and words to be a tangible reminder of your love. In your strong name, Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

How heavy the news that your spiritual brother must go from the surgeon to the oncologist! Yet let us not despair as those who have no hope, for our hope is in the Lord who visits His children in the hour of need. Cry out for him with the prayer of the Psalmist, “O visit me with Your salvation,” and remember that the Great Physician’s visits are not mere ceremony, they bring life, healing, and peace.

Lift up this dear man, a father, son, husband, uncle. His family circle is now a hospital of souls, and you do well to desire a visit to his side. A brother’s presence is a cordial; but better still is the presence of Christ, which can reach across the miles even now. Stir up family prayer in that household, let it be the crimson line in the window, the castle of Protestantism, the nutriment of piety. If ever there were a time for double zeal in worship, it is when the shadow of affliction falls.

And for your own longing to go to him: pray that the Lord would open the door, but also rest in His timing. The husbandman waits patiently for the precious fruit; so must we. Whether you go or stay, you can yet visit the mercy seat on his behalf. I have seen despondency flee in an instant when the Lord draws near. May it be so for your brother.

Remember that all the family of God share one mark, they are led by the Spirit, and in this trial, may he and his whole house be shut in with Christ as Noah was in the ark. Tell it out wherever you go that Jesus visits His people, and drag your net of duty and love, bringing your own household and your spiritual brother’s family after you. I join my prayers with yours, trusting that this season of heaviness will end in a harvest of joy.

When the surgeon speaks of an oncologist, the heart trembles, and the imagination runs to dark places. This is the sickness not merely of the body but of the soul gripped by fear. Yet recall how Christ dealt with the nobleman whose son was at the point of death. He did not rush to the bedside immediately but first addressed the father’s terror, healing the sick in mind no less than the one in body. The Lord permits these trials precisely so that we may learn to put no confidence in the present health of the flesh, but to cling to Him alone. Let him not on the staff of apparent weakness despair, nor let those who stand in health be presumptuous. How often do the sick become healthy, and the healthy by remissness grow infirm? The fever of anxiety must itself be treated by the true Physician, and the first medicine is to refuse to let the soul be mastered by what it cannot yet see. The publican, grievously oppressed, was set free from his fever when he obeyed the laws of the healer. So here, the command is to lift up the hands that hang down and the feeble knees, to put on the whole armor of God which banishes all fear. Describing the power of the enemy does not create cowardice; it shakes off indolence and drives us to stand firm.

You ask prayer for his family to be an encouragement, and this is a right and holy burden. For what is it that makes brotherhood? It is the washing of regeneration, the privilege of calling God our Father. You esteem his concerns as your own, refusing to say in your heart, "Am I my brother’s keeper?" That word is the mother of all evils. But you have chosen the better part, to care for his whole household and to lift them up. Let them fear not the number of physicians, whether of the body or the soul, for they have regard to the health of the sick, not to their own vainglory. One Master speaks in all, that is, Christ. Encourage them to submit to one another in the fear of God, for the truest nobility is knowing how to lower ourselves and give way to our neighbor. In this, the wife, the son, the uncle, all become a fortress for the one facing the storm. And for yourself, your longing to visit him is a mark of that very bond the Apostle describes, where he sends Timothy with the charge "see that he be with you without fear." You yearn to be a presence that drives out isolation and whispers of despair. This is not a small thing. Pray that if it be God’s will, the path will open, for the prayers of the faithful avail much. But whether you go or remain, the most potent visitation you can make now is to stand with him in that place where distance vanishes: before the throne of grace, where one Master acts and heals. Do not cease to examine your own soul also, lest the subtle venom of sin dull your own sense of shame while you are tending to another. For each of us must study to free our neighbors, and before our neighbors, our own selves.
