Thank you for sharing this burden and for caring enough to urge him to seek medical help right away. That is wise and loving counsel, and we join you in praying for him now.
We are praying for the Lord's guidance and direction for him, and for his healing. Scripture shows us that a large part of the ministry of Jesus was touching and healing those who were sick and afflicted. Matthew points us to the prophecy in Isaiah chapter 53 verse 4, surely he has borne our griefs, where the word for griefs can also be translated infirmities, and Matthew applies it directly to Jesus healing the sick. He bore our sicknesses as well as our sins, which reveals the heart of God toward our physical needs. Jesus showed power over sickness, over the material world in calming wind and sea, and over the spiritual realm in commanding evil spirits, and the gospels record him healing one person at a time like the leper and Peter's mother in law and also healing multitudes who were brought to him in the evening.
We believe God still heals today and that he is the Lord who heals us, who becomes to us what we need in every situation. At the same time much about healing we do not fully understand, why some are healed instantly, some gradually, and some not as we hope. The gospels show Jesus healing in different ways, sometimes with a touch, sometimes with only a word, sometimes from a distance, sometimes gradually as with the one healing that came in stages. Any true healing is from God, whether it comes in a moment or through the steady processes he has built into our bodies. The natural processes of recovery are not less divine because they are natural, for he created nature and its processes. We also remember that we live in a fallen world where sin has brought corruption, pain and weakness into these bodies, and as Paul says we groan within this body longing for full deliverance, so sickness is not necessarily a direct result of personal sin but part of living in this present world.
We also learn that faith has a part in receiving from God. Many who came to Jesus released their faith at a point of contact, like those who touched the hem of his garment and were healed as virtue went out from him. It was not the cloth itself but the moment faith was activated to receive. And we also remember that God in his wisdom does not will physical healing in every case in this life, as with Paul who prayed three times concerning his thorn in the flesh and was taught to rest in grace. So we pray with confidence but also with trust in the Lord's perfect will.
We will pray for him now, asking the Lord to give wisdom to the doctors, to guide every test and decision, to calm fear and give peace, and to touch his body according to his mercy and power. May the Lord grant clear direction, may he feel the nearness of Jesus who loves him, and may he know that whether healing comes instantly or through gradual means, it is God who heals.
Father in Jesus name we lift this dear brother to you. You know his chest pain and his need. We ask you to be his healer and his guide. Lead him to the right care, give wisdom to those who treat him, protect his heart and body, and let him sense your presence and peace. We ask for your healing touch as it pleases you, and for strength and comfort for those who love him. We trust him into your hands, in the name of Jesus our Savior, amen.
