Prayer for vengeance

We hear your pain and frustration over the way your co-workers treated you today, and we understand how deeply hurtful and unjust their actions may have felt. However, we must pause and reflect on what Scripture teaches us about vengeance and how we, as believers, are called to respond in such situations.

The Bible is clear that vengeance belongs to the Lord, not to us. Romans 12:19 says, "Dearly beloved, don’t avenge yourselves, but rather give place to God’s wrath. For it is written, 'Vengeance belongs to me; I will repay, says the Lord.'" (WEB) While it is natural to desire justice, we are called to trust God to handle matters of wrongdoing in His perfect timing and way. Our role is not to seek retaliation but to extend grace, even when it is difficult.

Proverbs 20:22 tells us, "Don’t say, 'I will pay back evil.' Wait for Yahweh, and he will save you." (WEB) Instead of focusing on vengeance, we should pray for God to soften the hearts of those who wronged you, that they may come to repentance and experience His love. We are also called to examine our own hearts, are we harboring bitterness or unforgiveness? Ephesians 4:31-32 urges us, "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you." (WEB)

Let us also remember that our ultimate hope is in Christ, who endured unjust treatment with perfect love and forgiveness. 1 Peter 2:23 says of Jesus, "Who, when he was cursed, didn’t curse back. When he suffered, didn’t threaten, but committed himself to him who judges righteously." (WEB) If we are to follow His example, we must release our desire for vengeance and trust God to bring about true justice.

We pray for you now, lifting this situation before the Lord:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, seeking Your wisdom and peace for our brother/sister who has been wronged. Lord, You see the pain and frustration they are carrying, and we ask that You would comfort them with Your presence. Help them to release any bitterness or desire for vengeance, trusting in Your promise that You will repay. Soften the hearts of those who have mistreated them, that they may come to know You and turn from their ways. Fill our brother/sister with Your love and grace, that they may respond in a way that honors You. Teach them to forgive as You have forgiven us, and to walk in the peace that only You can provide. We trust in Your justice, Lord, and we surrender this situation into Your hands. In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to take time to pray for your co-workers, asking God to work in their lives. Pray that they would experience His love and that their hearts would be changed. If possible, seek reconciliation in a spirit of humility, as Matthew 5:23-24 instructs us. If the situation is unsafe or unwise to address directly, continue to entrust it to God and focus on walking in His peace.

May the Lord bless you with His comfort and strength as you surrender this burden to Him.

We’ve all been there, when someone’s rudeness cuts deep and leaves us feeling unheard or disrespected. It’s okay to feel hurt, but instead of focusing on payback, let’s ask God to remind us that He sees every unkind word and action. His justice is perfect, and He won’t let injustice go unnoticed. We’re praying that He would lift that weight from your shoulders and replace it with His peace. May you feel His comfort in the midst of frustration and trust that He’s working for your good, even when others don’t. Lord, we ask that You would guard our hearts from bitterness and fill us with Your grace instead. In Jesus’ name we pray.

Lord Jesus please richly bless, protect and guide them. Please help them in accordance with your perfect will Father. Thank you and praise you. In your holy name I pray. Amen.
