Prayer for this

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I keep thinking of this person and seeing their name on things and praying for God to reveal why and also to help me to not think of them too.

We understand how distracting and heavy it can feel when a person keeps coming to mind and you even seem to see their name everywhere, and we join with you in seeking God's will together in Jesus' name about why this is happening and for peace over your thoughts.

We want to gently encourage you to not look for signs in coincidences but to look to God's Word for His leading. Our minds can hold onto a person for many reasons, and God primarily speaks to us through Scripture, through prayer in the name of Jesus, and through the wise counsel of His Spirit. We are told in 2 Corinthians 10:5 to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and in Philippians 4:8 to think on whatever things are true, whatever things are honorable, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report. When thoughts become consuming, we can ask God to search us and guide us as in Psalm 139:23-24, and to give us wisdom as promised in James 1:5 that if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. We also rest in Proverbs 3:5-6 to trust in Yahweh with all our heart, and not lean on our own understanding, and in all our ways acknowledge him, and he will direct our paths. And we remember Philippians 4:6-7 that in nothing we should be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, we let our requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard our hearts and our thoughts in Christ Jesus.

We also want to lovingly point out that you mentioned God but did not mention Jesus in your request, and we want to remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 tells us there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If we come to God in prayer, we come through faith in Jesus Christ who died for our sins and rose again, and when we believe in Him and confess Him as Lord as in Romans 10:9, we are saved and have confident access to God. So we encourage you to bring every prayer in the name of Jesus, trusting Him alone.

If this person is someone you have feelings for, we encourage you to guard your heart and to view any relationship through a biblical lens. We believe courtship should be with the goal of marriage between a man and a woman who both believe in Christ, a lifelong commitment that honors God, and we are called to keep our thoughts and actions pure and to avoid fornication outside of marriage. Whether this is a friendship, a past relationship, or someone you are considering for marriage, we encourage you to pray for God's clear will, for purity of heart, and for that person's good as well, and to seek godly counsel rather than being led only by persistent thoughts or emotions.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son and we thank You that You know our thoughts and our hearts completely. We lift up our dear one who is troubled by continual thoughts of this person and who longs to know Your purpose. We ask You to reveal what You want revealed in Your perfect timing and according to Your will, and to quiet what does not need to remain. Grant wisdom liberally, give discernment to know the difference between Your leading and the wandering of the mind, and fill this heart with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Help us to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ and to fix our minds on what is true and pure and pleasing to You. If this is a relationship You would have to grow toward godly marriage, make that clear through Your Word and wise counsel and open doors according to Your will, and if not, give grace to release it fully to You and to rest in Your good plan as in Romans 8:28 that all things work together for good for those who love God. Draw our hearts ever closer to Jesus, that we would seek Him first, trust Him fully, and find our satisfaction in Him. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We understand how distracting and heavy it can feel to have someone constantly on your mind and then to notice their name everywhere. It makes sense you would ask God what He wants you to see in this and also ask Him for relief.

We have found it helps to hold both parts of your prayer together. It is good to ask God for wisdom and clarity, and it is also good to ask Him to help you steward your thoughts so they do not take over your day. Sometimes seeing a name often is simply our mind noticing what we are already thinking about, and that does not always mean God is giving a specific direction. Staying close to Him in prayer and in His Word over time is usually how His leading becomes clearer, more than looking for a sign in the moment.

One small practice that helps many people is to give the thought a clear place. Choose a brief time each day to pray honestly for this person and for your own peace, then when the thought comes at other times, quietly offer a short prayer like Lord I give this thought to you and gently return to what is in front of you. It takes practice, and kindness toward yourself as you learn matters.

Father, we lift our friend to You. You know who this person is and why they are on our friend's heart. Give clear guidance in Your timing, guard their mind with Your peace, and help them rest in Your care day by day. Lead them in Your will and draw them closer to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

It is a tender mercy that you have brought this burden into the light of prayer, for the heart is often crowded with thoughts that we cannot ourselves explain. You speak of a person much upon your mind, of seeing a name and wondering what the Lord would have you understand, and at the same time desiring help not to be occupied overmuch with that thought. This is a place where many of the Lord's people have stood, and there is wisdom and comfort in turning from our own thoughts to God's thoughts.

The Psalmist cries, How precious also are Your thoughts unto me, O God, how great is the sum of them. Remember that God's thoughts concerning His people are certain, numerous, tender, infinitely wise and practical. With Him to will is to do, and His thoughts are not idle musings but acts of love. They are constant and settled and, as the prophet declares, they are thoughts of peace toward you, not of evil, to give you an expected end. How precious His words ought then to be to us, for His Word is His thoughts spoken, and His Word is His ways, for He speaks and it is done.

Our own thoughts, left to themselves, are not as His thoughts. As the prophet says, My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways, says the Lord. If our thoughts run one way and God's thoughts run in an opposite direction, we cannot have fellowship with Him. Our thoughts must be conformed to God's thoughts or we cannot walk with Him. This is true concerning the number of our sins, the plan of pardon through Jesus Christ alone, and the way of holiness to which He calls us. God's thoughts are love, pity and tenderness, and He would have our thoughts become like His, pure, peaceable and stayed upon Him.

Such meditation upon God's thoughts helps to restore His presence to us when for a while we have lost the consciousness of it. When we awake, as it were, from the sleep of distraction, we find Him still with us. Therefore let this be your practice. Bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ. Test every impression, every seeming sign, by the sure Word of God, which is His revealed thought. Do not build upon the mere seeing of a name, but ask, what does Scripture say, what does holiness require, what does wisdom dictate.

Pray in this way, that the Lord would search your heart and make His will plain, and that He would keep your mind in perfect peace as it is stayed upon Him. Ask Him to show you whether this remembrance is a call to intercede for this person before the throne of grace, or whether it is a wandering of affection that needs to be gently led back to Christ. He knows the thoughts He thinks toward you, and they are thoughts of peace. He is able to quiet the mind, to purify love, and to keep the heart within the bounds of that lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman wherein alone the Lord has appointed such nearness, and to keep all thoughts and desires chaste and under His Lordship outside of it.

May the Lord grant you grace to think much of His thoughts, for they are more in number than the sand, and they are all kind toward you in Christ Jesus. Give yourself to prayer, to the Word, to honest labor and to fellowship with faithful believers who can help you watch over your heart. And as you wait upon Him, He will either make His purpose clear in His own time, or He will by His Spirit lift the burden and turn your thoughts more fully to Himself, which is the best deliverance of all.

We pray for you now, that our gracious Father would in His infinite wisdom reveal so much as is needful for you to know, and withhold what would only ensnare you, that He would guard your mind and heart through Christ Jesus, that He would lead you to repentance where repentance is needed and to peace where peace is promised, and that He would cause your thoughts to be conformed to His own, that you may walk in fellowship with Him and go in peace. We ask this trusting not in our own worthiness but in the blood of Jesus Christ His Son, through whom alone is salvation, and in whose name every prayer is heard.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer has been received and we have brought it before the Lord with care. It is understandable to feel unsettled when thoughts of another person keep returning and when you seem to notice their name often, and at the same time to want freedom from those thoughts and to know what God would have you do.

Scripture teaches that the peace of God is meant to rule in our hearts like an umpire when two thoughts wrestle within us. One thought urges us to hold on and keep turning something over in the mind, another urges us to let go and entrust it to God. We are called to let His peace decide, not anger, not restlessness, and not our own desire to find hidden meanings in everything we see. That peace surpasses all understanding and it guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus when we bring our requests to Him.

Seeing a name in different places does not in itself mean God is giving a sign. God most clearly reveals His will through His Word, through wisdom sought in prayer, and through the steady counsel of peace and holiness. Rather than looking for a message in coincidences, it is good to ask God directly for clarity, for a pure heart, and for thoughts that are at rest and within proper bounds.

We pray for you in this way, that God who is Himself our peace would grant you that steadiness. We ask Him to guard your mind, to give you discernment to know what is from Him and what is simply a distraction, and to help you to follow peace with all people and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord. If remembrance of this person draws you toward what is good and pure and in keeping with God's design for love and marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, we pray God would make that clear through His Word and wise counsel. If these thoughts pull you away from peace, from purity, or from devotion to Christ who alone is our salvation, we pray He would gently loosen their hold and teach you to bring every thought captive to Him.

May the Lord grant you quietness of heart, not a peace that comes from getting what we want, but the peace He Himself gives and leaves with His people, a peace that remains firm even when questions remain unanswered. Continue to seek Him daily in Scripture and prayer, and share your struggle with a trusted pastor or mature believer who can walk with you faithfully.

We will continue to pray that God reveals His good will to you and that He helps you to think less constantly of this person, filling your mind instead with what is true and holy and giving you rest in His care.
