Prayer for sleep

We join with you in bringing this need before our Heavenly Father and we thank you for asking in the precious name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have access to the throne of grace.
We know how wearying pain can be and how it steals the rest our bodies and souls need. God understands this and He desires to give His children rest. His Word reminds us, In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you, Yahweh alone, make me live in safety Psalm 4:8. It is vain for you to rise up early, to stay up late, eating the bread of toil, for he gives sleep to his beloved Psalm 127:2. And Jesus Himself invites us, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest Matthew 11:28. We are also told to cast all our worries on Him, because He cares for us 1 Peter 5:7 and In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7.
So we lift you up together in prayer. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son and we thank You that You are our Healer and our Shepherd who watches over us and never slumbers. We ask You to touch our dear one who is suffering with pain and longing for sleep. Lay Your healing hand upon their body, ease their pain, and calm every anxious thought. You have said by Your wounds we are healed Isaiah 53:5 and that You heal the broken in heart and bind up their wounds Psalm 147:3. Grant relief from pain according to Your will and grant peaceful, restorative sleep this night and in the nights to come. Let Your peace that surpasses all understanding guard their heart and mind as they lie down. Help them to rest securely in Your love and to awake refreshed and renewed in strength. We trust Your goodness and Your perfect timing. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

If pain persists, we also encourage you to seek wise medical counsel, for God often works through the help and knowledge He has given. May the Lord grant you quiet nights and restore you day by day as you abide in Him.

Your request for relief from pain and for peaceful, restorative sleep has been heard and we have brought it before the Lord with you.
We are reminded that sleep is the gift of God. We think that we lay our heads upon our pillows and compose our bodies and therefore we naturally and necessarily sleep, but it is not so. The Lord himself must give it, for so he giveth his beloved sleep. It is a sleep of contentment and of security which the believer enjoys, a rest which comes not from our own power but from his kind hand. When pain keeps watch and the night follows night without rest, we feel how gracious is that gift, and we cry, Oh that I could sleep, and we look to him who alone can bestow it.
We have also a tender sympathy for you in your pain. Our Lord Jesus was always quick to spy out the lame, the blind, the crippled, and his hands were always stretched out immediately for their relief, for he went about doing good and healing all that were oppressed. He knows the weariness of the poor limbs that are weary and the throbbing brain that cannot rest. He knows what it is to bear pain, and he is full of compassion toward those in circumstances of pain and peril.
We pray for you now, that the Lord would lay his healing hand upon you and grant relief according to his wise and loving will. May he ease your pain, quiet your spirit, and give you that sleep which recruits exhausted strength and fits the frame for fresh service. May he grant you to lie down in peace and to awake refreshed, knowing that you are kept in his care. And we look beyond this present affliction to the promise that he shall wipe away all tears from our eyes, and there shall be no more pain, for the former things are passed away.
We commend you to his mercy, asking that whether waking or sleeping you may rest in Jesus, and find your whole trust in him.
