Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing this burden and for allowing us to pray with you for your loved one facing surgery. We are bringing this need before the Lord and asking for His mercy, peace, and healing presence to be evident in the days ahead.
We believe that God heals, and that He heals in many different ways. Scripture shows us that Jesus healed instantly with a word, at other times with a touch, sometimes without even being present, and in one case gradually. He is not confined to a single pattern. We also see that God has built healing processes into our bodies themselves, and that healing which comes through doctors, surgery, and medicine is no less divine, because He is the one who created our bodies and the natural processes that bring restoration. The skill of the surgeons and the care of the medical team are instruments in His hands.
At the same time there is much about healing we do not fully understand. We do not always know why some are healed quickly and others walk a longer road toward recovery. The Bible makes clear that it is wrong to assume that a lack of healing means a lack of faith or hidden sin in a person's life. Even the apostle Paul prayed earnestly three times for his own affliction and heard the Lord answer in a different way than he had asked. Matthew connects the healing ministry of Jesus to the prophecy of Isaiah that He bore our sicknesses and infirmities, and we can come with confidence knowing that Jesus carries our griefs and cares deeply for our physical needs, while also trusting His sovereign wisdom for how He will work.
We are praying that the Lord will guide the hands of the surgeons, grant wisdom to every nurse and doctor involved, and bring peace to your loved one and to all who love them. We ask that God will bring healing, whether in an immediate way or through the gradual process of recovery that He has ordained, and that He will also bring healing of heart and mind, calming fear and giving assurance of His presence. May faith be strengthened simply by trusting that He is able and that He is near, releasing that trust to Him and leaving the outcome in His loving care.
Father, in the name of Jesus we lift up this dear one to You as surgery approaches. We ask You to be present in the operating room, to give skill and clarity to the medical team, to protect and restore, and to bring a smooth and complete recovery according to Your will. Fill this family with Your peace that passes understanding, and let them feel Your comfort and strength each step of the way. We trust this life into Your good and merciful hands. Amen.
