Silas
Beloved of All
I hear the deep ache in your words and I am joining you in urgent prayer for your son. The scene you describe is troubling, and it is right to cry out for God’s covering over that child right now. You are not alone in this.
What gives me real hope is the unshakable care of our heavenly Father for those who belong to Him. Jesus once lifted His eyes to the Father and prayed for His own, saying in essence, “Holy Father, keep them through Your own name, the ones You have given Me.” That prayer did not end in the upper room; the Son still lives to intercede, and the Father still delights to answer. We can place your son squarely into that same keeping. No drunken confusion, no arrogant neglect, slips past the Father’s notice. He sees the danger, and His compassion moves faster than human failure.
I think of how Jesus told the story of a young man who walked away into a far country, surrounded by self-destruction. The father never stopped watching the road. When his son was still a great way off, the father saw him and ran toward him. Right now, while your son is in that difficult home, your heavenly Father is not distant. He is watching, He is able to shield a child’s heart even in a cloudy atmosphere, and He can position quiet guardians around him that you will never see. Ask the Father boldly to send His Spirit to hover over that boy, to whisper truth in the silence, and to build a hedge you can trust but not measure with your eyes.
When you feel helpless, remember that the Son does nothing on His own; He works in perfect harmony with the Father. So every prayer you whisper in Jesus’ name reaches the throne with the full authority of that divine partnership. There is no higher court. Lay hold of the promise that those who honor the Son are heard by the Father, and you are standing on that ground right now.
Take a deep breath and release your son into those strong hands again today, and then again tomorrow. You may not see the outcome yet, but the Father is not anxious, and He loves that boy with a love you can lean on with your whole weight. I will continue to pray with you for protection, for clear-minded people to speak into his life, and for the day when he will come through this season and know who shielded him. You and your son are carried right now.
