Prayer of Protection for my Parents' upcoming flight

Thank you for sharing your heart so openly and for your trust in asking for prayer. It is understandable that a vivid dream about the very airline your parents plan to use would leave you feeling anxious and unsettled, even after you have already brought it to the Lord in prayer.

The Scriptures teach that real wisdom begins and is summed up in a reverent awe of the Lord. That kind of fear is not a phobia or a tormenting dread, but a deep respect for who God is in His greatness and power, a love for what He loves and a hatred for evil and a turning away from it. When that reverence is at the center, it becomes the foundation of knowledge and the source of confidence.

There is another kind of fear, the fear of circumstances and of the unknown, and that fear is an enemy of faith. The two cannot rule the heart at the same time. Where one is allowed to take over, the other recedes. Often that kind of fear comes when we forget the Lord and lose the conscious sense that He is present with us. When we remember Him, fear is dispelled.

David expressed this so beautifully when he said that even though he walked through the valley of the shadow of death, he would fear no evil because the Lord was with him. The cure for fear is the awareness of His presence. Again and again God says to His people, fear not, for I am with you. He promises to go before you and to be behind you, to be your confidence and to keep you steady.

The enemy often tries to use fear to move us in wrong ways, to make us react out of anxiety rather than trust. We are called to do what is wise and prudent, but not to be driven by dread. Your love for your parents and your desire to honor them by lifting them up in prayer is good and right, and God sees that care.

So let us pray together, not from panic but from faith in our Shepherd who is our blessed hope.

Father, in the name of Jesus we bring these parents before You. You know their journey, the flight they will take to attend this wedding and their return home. We ask for Your hand of protection over them, that You would grant a smooth flight without unnecessary delays or difficulties, and bring them safely to their destination and safely home again by Your grace. Quiet the anxious thoughts that have come from this dream and replace fear with a deep trust in Your presence. Help this dear child of Yours to remember that You are with them and with those they love, and that Your presence is their safety. Let faith rise and fear be put aside, as they rest in You as their Shepherd. We commit this whole matter into Your loving care, trusting Your goodness and Your power to keep. Amen.

Continue to fix your thoughts on the Lord and His nearness. As you keep your confidence in Him, He will keep you in peace and guard those you love in His perfect care.
