Prayer for Paris

Father has given many prophetic visions about the country of Paris emitting dark energy/principalities that cover the whole earth. Family please pray against these principalities, powers, and altars of darkness of the country of Paris. May they be cursed and withered as Jesus did to the fig tree that did not bear good fruit.

We hear your burden for Paris and for the spiritual darkness you have perceived there, and we join with you in seeking the Lord together in Jesus' name for His light to prevail.

We want to gently clarify and encourage you in biblical truth as we pray. Paris is not a country but the capital city of the country of France, and God loves the people of that city and nation deeply and desires that they be saved. We understand your concern about principalities and powers, for the Scripture tells us For our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world's rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. Eph 6:12. There are indeed spiritual forces of darkness at work in every nation and city, including Paris, and we are called to stand against them.

At the same time we want to lovingly correct the desire to curse and wither the city or country as Jesus did the fig tree. That fig tree was a specific sign of judgment on fruitlessness, but our calling toward people and places under darkness is not to curse them, but to intercede for their deliverance and salvation. The Lord Jesus taught us But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you Matt 5:44, and the apostle Paul exhorts us Bless those who persecute you; bless, and do not curse Rom 12:14. The weapons of our warfare are not fleshly but divinely powerful for the destruction of strongholds 2 Cor 10:4, and that warfare is to see strongholds of deception torn down so that people may turn from darkness to light and from the power of Satan to God Acts 26:18.

We also encourage careful discernment regarding prophetic visions and language like dark energy, which is not biblical terminology. Scripture tells us Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God 1 John 4:1 and Test all things, and hold firmly that which is good 1 Thess 5:21. Even when we sense spiritual oppression over a region, God's heart is that none should perish, but that all should come to repentance 2 Pet 3:9, for God desires all people to be saved and come to full knowledge of the truth 1 Tim 2:4.

So we do not pray for Paris or France to be cursed, but for the darkness to be defeated by the light of Christ, for the gospel to run swiftly there, and for many souls to be rescued from the dominion of darkness and brought into the Kingdom of His beloved Son Col 1:13. We pray that the light that overcomes darkness will shine there, for The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it John 1:5 and Jesus said I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life John 8:12.

We pray together now.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved Acts 4:12 and through Him alone we have access to Your throne. We lift up the city of Paris and the nation of France to You. We ask that You expose and overthrow every principality, power, and work of darkness that has blinded eyes and held people captive there. We pray that every altar and stronghold built on deception, idolatry, and sin would be demolished by the power of Your Holy Spirit and the truth of Your Word. Let Your light shine and scatter the darkness. We pray for the people of Paris, that You would have mercy on them, draw them to repentance, and open their hearts to receive Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. Raise up laborers, churches, and witnesses there who will boldly proclaim the gospel, and let many turn from darkness to light. We bless Paris and France in Jesus' name and ask that Your Kingdom come and Your will be done there as it is in heaven. We trust that He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world 1 John 4:4. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We are grateful you brought this burden to us and that you want to see God's light shine in Paris and across France. It is good to care about what is happening spiritually in other places and to bring that concern to the Lord in prayer.

We hear your urgency about darkness and principalities. While we know the battle believers face is real and spiritual, we also want to keep our focus on Jesus and His authority, praying not that people or places would be cursed but that Christ's presence, truth and love would overcome darkness and draw many to Himself. Paris is a city dear to God because the people there are dear to Him, and France has many faithful believers who need our encouragement and prayers.

A simple way we can pray together is to ask God to strengthen the church in Paris, to protect and encourage those sharing the gospel there, and to show us how to walk faithfully where He has placed us, trusting Him with what we cannot see.

Father, we lift Paris and all of France to You in Jesus' name. We ask You to push back darkness by Your power, to guard Your people there, and to let Your light and hope be clearly seen. Give us wisdom as we pray and help us rest in Your sovereign care. Amen.

Your earnest concern for souls under darkness is heard, and it is right that you should feel the weight of that spiritual conflict of which Scripture so plainly speaks.

Yet we must pray as Scripture teaches us to pray. Paris is not a country but a great city in the nation of France, and though there is indeed a power of darkness in this world, the Word does not teach us to curse cities or peoples as our Lord once cursed the fruitless fig tree for a sign. That act was the judgment of the Son of God Himself, showing what must befall fruitless profession. Our office, as those who follow Him now, is not to call down withering but to make intercession.

Darkness in Scripture signifies many things, and you do well to mark it. It is sorrow and weeping, it is ignorance wherein the God of this world has blinded the eyes of men lest the light of the glorious Gospel should shine unto them, and it is the element of Satan who is called the Prince of Darkness. We who were sometimes darkness are now light in the Lord, for He has delivered us from the power of darkness, as it is written in Colossians 1:13. That deliverance was wrought not by our cursing but by Christ who entered the darkness for us. At noon there was darkness over all the land when He bore wrath for sin, and by that darkness He took away the darkness of soul ignorance, that men might find the way of salvation. Light springs out of that darkness, the eternal Light of the undying Son of God who lives to scatter the darkness of evil.

Because He has ascended on high, it is part of His priestly office to make intercession for His people within the veil, and when we pray for fellow sinners we are in sympathy with Him who made intercession for the transgressors. The secret springs that move the affairs of earth are the prayers of Gods believing people. Jeremiah interceded even for a rebellious people, and Samuel said, God forbid that I should sin against the Lord in ceasing to pray for you, though the people had slighted him and though Saul had turned aside. He persevered in intercession. So must we.

The Holy Spirit also helps our infirmity, for we know not what we should pray for as we ought, and He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. His intercession is for those who are in Christ, that they might pray aright, not to utter curses upon the lost but to plead that those who sit in darkness might be brought into light.

Therefore let us not pray that a city or its people be cursed and withered, but that the power of darkness there be broken by the preaching of the Cross, and that those who are in bondage and in darkness may hear the voice of Christ saying, Show yourselves, come forth into the light and enjoy it. The world still lies in darkness, but we are of God, and our prayer must be that the Light of God may shine there.

Let us pray together in this manner. O Lord our God, who hast delivered us from the power of darkness and translated us into the kingdom of Thy dear Son, look in mercy upon the city of Paris and upon all France. Scatter the ignorance and blindness which Satan would hold over the minds of men. Forgive sin, reveal Christ crucified, and by Thy Spirit draw many out of darkness into Thy marvelous light. Raise up faithful witnesses there to preach Thy Gospel plainly, that those who love darkness may be turned to love the light because their deeds may be wrought in God. Forbid that we should cease to pray for them, and teach us to intercede aright, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who ever liveth to make intercession for us. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We appreciate your burden to pray for the city of Paris and for the nation of France, and your desire to see the darkness overcome by the light of Christ.

Scripture does teach that our wrestling is not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the spiritual wickedness in unseen places. This is a real and grievous conflict, and it calls for a sober, watchful, and humble heart before God. Our armor in this warfare is not of this world, but is truth and righteousness and faith and love of wisdom, with God Himself as our captain. We are not at war with people or with cities, but with the devil and those incorporeal powers who work to keep people in darkness.

For that reason we want to gently correct two ideas in the request. Paris is not a country but a city within France, and while God does at times give insight to His people, we are called to test all such impressions by Scripture. The Bible does not teach that a single city emits a dark energy that covers the whole earth, nor does it call us to pray curses upon peoples or places that they would wither as the fig tree did. When Jesus withered the fig tree it was a specific sign of judgment upon unfruitfulness, but His instruction to His followers is to love our enemies, to bless and not curse, and to pray that those in darkness would leave the darkness and hasten to the light. As the Gospel says, people are judged because they would not come to the light when the light has come, and Christ came not to condemn but to save and to bring many from darkness into His marvelous light.

So rather than asking God to curse Paris or France, we can pray in the way Scripture models for us, with a contrite and repentant heart, asking for mercy and salvation.

Let us pray together: Heavenly Father, we ask for Your mercy upon the people of Paris and all of France. Let the light of Your Gospel shine brightly there, and draw many out of darkness to Yourself through faith in Jesus Christ alone, who alone is the way of salvation. Strengthen Your church there to stand firm, to put on the whole armor of God, to speak the truth in love, and to live sober and faithful lives. Expose the works of darkness, frustrate the schemes of the evil one, and bring conviction of sin and joy in repentance. May many come to know Your forgiveness and walk in the light, for Your glory. In the name of Jesus we pray, amen.

Continue in earnest and steady prayer, keeping your eyes on Christ and His Word, trusting that greater is He who is in you than any power in this world.
