We hear your cry for help and lift you up before the Lord, who knows every detail of your struggle. The weight of debt can feel crushing, especially when compounded by anxiety and the fear of becoming a burden to those you love. But we serve a God who sees your need and promises to provide in ways you may not yet see. The Bible tells us in Philippians 4:19, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus." This is not just a hopeful thought, it is a divine promise for those who trust in Him.
We also recognize the heaviness of anxiety you’re carrying. Jesus Himself spoke to this in Matthew 6:34, saying, "Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient." We are not meant to carry tomorrow’s burdens today. Instead, we are called to cast our cares upon the Lord, for He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). Your worth is not defined by your debt or your financial situation. You are deeply loved by your Heavenly Father, who calls you His child.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is weighed down by the burden of debt and anxiety. Lord, You are the God who owns the cattle on a thousand hills (Psalm 50:10), and nothing is too difficult for You. We ask that You would provide a way out of this financial struggle, whether through wisdom, provision, or unexpected blessings. Give them peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding their heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). Remind them daily that they are not a burden, but a cherished child of God, created with purpose and dignity.
Father, we also pray against the spirit of fear and anxiety that seeks to overwhelm them. Fill them with Your perfect love, which casts out all fear (1 John 4:18). Help them to trust in You one day at a time, knowing that You are their Provider and Sustainer. If there is any unconfessed sin or unforgiveness in their heart, reveal it to them so they may walk in the freedom of Your forgiveness. Strengthen their faith and renew their hope in Your promises.
Lord, we ask that You would open doors for them, whether through wise counsel, financial breakthroughs, or opportunities to steward their resources well. Give them the courage to seek help if needed, whether through godly financial advice or support from their church family. Remind them that they are not alone in this struggle, and that You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28).
We rebuke the enemy’s lies that tell them they are defined by their debt or that they will never overcome this. We declare that in Christ, they are more than conquerors (Romans 8:37), and that Your grace is sufficient for them (2 Corinthians 12:9). May they experience Your peace and provision in tangible ways, and may their testimony bring glory to Your name.

Proverbs 22:7 warns that "the borrower is servant to the lender," but it also offers wisdom in Proverbs 21:5: "The plans of the diligent lead surely to plenty, but those of everyone who is hasty, surely to poverty." God honors wisdom and stewardship.
Additionally, if you have not already, consider reaching out to your family with honesty and humility. Sometimes our fear of being a burden keeps us from allowing others to bless us in return. Galatians 6:2 tells us to "Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ." You may find that they are more than willing to support you in prayer or even practical ways.

It is only through Him that we have access to the Father (John 14:6), and there is no other name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ, we encourage you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in your heart that Jesus died for you and rose again, and invite Him to be the Lord of your life. This is the first and most important step toward true peace and freedom.
You are not forgotten, and your struggle is not in vain. Keep your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). He is faithful, and He will see you through this season.

Anxiety over this debt has brought you nothing but weariness. You have discovered, I trust, that such fretting does not pay the least farthing of what you owe, nor does it strengthen you to meet the trial. It rather unfits a soul for wise action and drives the mind from resting upon the promises. Cast this burden upon the Lord, for He cares for you. Every man shall bear his own burden, it is true, and this debt is yours to face. Yet when Christ lays His yoke upon you, even the heaviest load becomes light, because He bears it with you. His yoke is easy and His burden is light, not that He removes every difficulty at once, but He subdues the galling weight by His grace. At your age and on a fixed income, the fear of becoming a burden to your family cuts deep, but beware of letting that fear drive you from the fellowship of prayer. You have done well to ask the saints to pray. Let them help carry this with you before the throne, even as you go forward in the strength God supplies.
Yet I must press one deeper matter. There is a greater debt than any owed to a lender, the debt of sin. If you are resting in Christ, then know that He has cancelled that vast obligation, and this present trial is but a light affliction preparing an eternal weight of glory. If you have never settled that account by faith, then all other cares are but a shadow of the peril before you. Flee to the cross where every debt is paid. For the child of God, these earthly burdens are not signs of God's forgetfulness but occasions to prove His faithfulness. Trust Him for daily bread, and let your prayer be not only for relief but for grace to glorify Him in this strait. When Christ is with you, the burden truly ceases to be a burden, however much it weighs. Go, then, in prayerfulness, casting all your care upon Him, and look for His deliverance patiently.

You speak of an earthly debt that weighs upon you, and your anxiety over it is indeed a heavy burden. But do you not see how this very anxiety is itself a heavier chain? For the covetous man and the debtor alike are filled with sorrows, fears, and disturbances, wave upon wave without ceasing. You toil as one making bricks for Pharaoh, scourged not in body but in soul, day after day in trembling and dread. This is the slavery of vain zeal, and you cry out for relief.
Yet consider the Master’s tender care. He commands you to take no thought for tomorrow, because today’s trouble is enough. Why do you heap tomorrow’s burden upon today, as though you could lighten it by borrowing sorrow in advance? You only multiply the thorns that choke the word of life. The day itself is injured by your despite, and your heart is drowned beneath the waves of luxury and anxiety alike.
The real debt you should lament is far greater. We are all debtors in a vast spiritual reckoning, fleeing from God though He pursues us. Our iniquities have separated us from Him, yet we tremble more over the loss of money than the peril of our souls. One fear grips all: lest we become poor. But who lies awake in anguish lest he fall into hell? This is to honor men and mammon above God, and it calls for lamentation, not mere prayer for lighter temporal burdens.
Do not misunderstand. I do not mock your suffering, for the flesh is weak and fixed incomes can press hard. But if you groan and look up to God, He will send you His Word and compunction. That compulsion frees you from bitter slavery. It will not necessarily erase the debt of numbers, but it will release you from the far heavier debt of constant anxiety. Seek first the beauty that never fades, the soul’s adornment which no old age withers and no fear disfigures. When your heart is fixed there, the question of earthly obligations becomes lighter, and you may eat and drink with a conscience free, knowing that such external things are not the essence of evil.
Therefore, go now and pour out your tears not for the money owed, but for the distance your heart has traveled from its Maker. Let your anxiety be transformed into compunction. For when you cling to God, even a fixed income and a relentless sum cannot enslave you, because the true yoke of virtue is sweet and light.
