You sit now with a bundle of hopes and questions all pressed together, a meeting, a new home, a whole family’s next step hanging upon what God will do. And I wonder if you feel, as I have often done, that the very crowd of cares makes it hard to single out one promise and hold it fast. Yet I would have you look away from the swarm of tomorrows and fix your eyes upon the Lord Himself. He is not aloof from your small affairs; He counts the hairs of your head, and He marks the street where you will live before ever you put your foot upon it.
Think of that meeting for a moment. You are tempted to lie awake rehearsing words, trying to peer into faces not yet seen, longing to win favor from men. But lift your heart higher. The God of your mercy goes before you. Do you remember how David, when his house was surrounded by watchers who meant him harm, did not pace the floor nor sharpen his sword? He simply said, “The God of my mercy will prevent me.” That word “prevent” is sweeter than you know, it means He will go ahead of you, clearing the path while you are still on your knees. The mercy that has pardoned you and made you His child will not fail to prepare the hearts in that room. You have been accepted in the Beloved with a sweet savor, and your petitions, your stammering words, are already fragrant before the throne through Jesus Christ. Walk into that meeting as one who follows a Guide who sees every bend of the road. You need not flatter nor fret; only rest in the confidence that He who opened the heart of Lydia can open a door of favor for you, and if a door stays shut, it was not the door He meant for you to walk through.
And then the matter of a home. My soul warms at the thought of a family seeking a place to dwell, for our Lord Himself had not where to lay His head, and He knows the longing for a settled nest. Do you recall how the Hebrew servant was sent out free with his arms laden, corn from the threshing-floor, wine from the press, a generous loading from the flock, and all given with a willing hand? That is your Father’s way. He does not merely unlock a door and let you squeeze through; He adorns your neck with His gifts. The right apartment is not a bare provision but a token of His love, prepared before the foundation of the world for this very season of your life. Even now the everlasting arms are underneath you, and those arms will not let you fall into a place that would harm your soul or dishonor His name. Wait prayerfully, watch for His signals, and do not be afraid when He calls you to step forward, for He has already blessed the habitation you have not yet seen.
And all this while, the journey itself is schooling you. I have found that it is the starting that colors so much of the way. You are asking for guidance at the beginning, and that is the sure mark of a child who knows his Father’s voice. If you have God for your Guide now, in this crossing, then as the years flow on the tint of His faithfulness will run through every stream of your life. He will lead you by His counsel, and afterward receive you to glory. The path may wind, but it never wanders from His purpose. Lean hard upon Him when the way seems dark; press your hand into His and trust, for He knows the road to the home He is making for you.
Let me leave you this one word of solid comfort. Jesus said, “Him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out.” You are coming now, not with a perfect faith, but with a real one, bringing your tangled bundle of needs and laying it at His feet. He will not cast you out. He will not send you away empty. He will not despise your trembling plea for a meeting, for a home, for peace. He loves to be used by His children in just these pinching, ordinary straits. So come, and keep coming, and find in Him all that your family requires.
Let us pray.
Lord Jesus, You are the Shepherd who leads His flock to green pastures and still waters. Look now upon this family in their time of moving and waiting. Go before them into that meeting; be their wisdom, their calmness, their favor. Open the door that no man can shut, and grant them to see Your hand in every approval and every provision. Quiet their hearts with the peace that passes understanding. Remind them that they are not vagabonds in a cold world but beloved children for whom a place is prepared. Underneath are the everlasting arms, and You will not let them stumble. Bring them safely to the home You have chosen, and let that dwelling be a place of prayer, of joy, and of welcome for all who enter. We cast ourselves upon You, blessed Master, and ask all this in Your precious name. Amen.
