Prayer for OCD

Caden202

Humble Servant of All
I think people are watching me, even if I am in my house. I think people purposely do actions to annoy/upset me. I get mad at everyone because of it. I know they are not, but I know they do.

We hear the heaviness in your heart and we want to lift you up before the Lord together. To feel watched even in the safety of your own home, to feel that others are intentionally trying to annoy or upset you, and then to feel anger rise toward everyone, is an exhausting and distressing battle. We also hear the conflict within you when you say you know they are not watching, but you also feel certain that they are. That tug of war with intrusive thoughts is very real and very painful, and we do not take it lightly. You are not alone in this struggle and you are not forgotten by God.

The Word tells us that God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control, 2 Timothy 1:7. Fearful and intrusive thoughts do not come from Him. He desires to give you peace for your mind. You will keep whoever's mind is steadfast in perfect peace, because he trusts in you, Isaiah 26:3. And we are called to bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 2 Corinthians 10:5. This does not mean you have failed when unwanted thoughts intrude, it means we can learn with God's help to recognize those thoughts, test them against truth, and hand them over to Jesus rather than letting them control us. He invites us to cast all our worries on him, because he cares for you, 1 Peter 5:7. We also remember that perfect love casts out fear, 1 John 4:18, and that when we seek Him He can deliver us from our fears, Psalm 34:4.

We also want to gently speak to the anger you mentioned. It is understandable to feel irritable and on edge when your mind feels under attack, but unchecked anger can harm you and others and give the enemy a foothold. Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger for the anger of man doesn't produce the righteousness of God, James 1:19-20. In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7. God wants to guard your heart and your thoughts with His peace, not with suspicion or resentment.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and find true peace and salvation. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord. If you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved, Romans 10:9. It is through His name we pray and find freedom.

We pray together for you now. Father in heaven, we lift this dear one to You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. You see the torment of these intrusive thoughts and the feeling of being watched and targeted, and You see the anger and exhaustion that follows. Lord we ask You to rebuke the spirit of fear and confusion and the lies that tell this beloved child that everyone is against them. Replace those lies with Your truth and Your perfect love. Guard their heart and mind with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Help them to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ and to rest in the truth that You watch over them not to harm them but to protect and love them, for You neither slumber nor sleep over Your children. Grant them calm in their home, clarity of thought, and freedom from compulsive fear. Soften their heart toward others and help them to be slow to anger, filled instead with Your patience and grace. Lead them to trustworthy help, whether a pastor, a mature believer, or a godly counselor or medical professional who can walk with them through this OCD struggle with wisdom and compassion. Draw them close to Jesus, assure them of Your presence, and let them know they are deeply loved, seen, and never alone. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to stay rooted in Scripture daily, even in small portions, and to speak truth aloud when fearful thoughts come. Keep a short list of verses on peace and God's protection to read when the feelings intensify. Do not isolate, but reach out to a trusted pastor or Christian counselor and, if needed, a medical professional, for ongoing support, for God often brings healing through His people and through wise counsel. Continue to bring every worry to God in prayer honestly and repeatedly, for He hears you and He cares. We are praying for your mind to be renewed and for your home to become a place of true rest and peace in Christ.

We are so glad you reached out and shared this so honestly. Feeling watched even in your own home, and feeling like others are doing things on purpose to upset you, is exhausting. It makes sense you would feel on edge and get angry. And we hear the painful tug-of-war you described, that part of you knows this is not happening and another part feels absolutely convinced it is.

Those kinds of intrusive, stuck thoughts can feel very real and very loud, even when you know they do not fit what is actually happening. It does not mean you have failed or that you are a bad person. It often means your mind is caught in a loop that is hard to step out of alone.

You do not have to carry this by yourself. If these thoughts and the anger that comes with them are weighing on you day to day, it can be a steady help to talk with a trusted pastor or counselor and also with your doctor or a mental health professional alongside prayer, so you have ongoing support and someone who knows you personally to walk with you. If you have someone safe in your life, letting them know when the thoughts get loud can also keep you from feeling isolated in your house.

We are praying for you and we will keep praying.

Father, we lift our friend to You right now. You see how tiring and confusing these thoughts feel and how much peace they long for at home and with others. Give them rest, clear wisdom for next steps, and trusted people to walk beside them. Help them know they are seen and loved by You and not alone in this struggle. In Jesus' name, amen.

Hypervigilence like this tends to stem from traumas, maybe something happened to trigger your feelings. Praying for you in Jesus' Name.

It was because of school, is there anyway I can stop this from happening? Thank you for praying!

I will keep praying. The best person to help with flashbacks and hypervigilant is a therapist who specialises in trauma. It isn't always easy to find one but the health service or local information sites may be able to direct you.

Okay, feel free to pray here whenever you want. I am not here all the time, but I will pray for you if I see your prayer request. Have a good day!

Your honest confession of this inward torment is heard, and it is a grievous trial to live with thoughts that accuse and disturb you even within your own house, to feel watched and provoked, and then to feel anger rise toward everyone, while at the same time you know these thoughts do not reflect the truth. This divided mind, where you both know they are not watching and yet feel certain that they do, is a heavy burden, and the Lord sees the distress it causes you.

Be assured of this, the thoughts of God toward you are not as your thoughts are toward yourself, nor as these troubling thoughts suggest. The Lord says, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. His thoughts are constant and kind, they drift your way with peace, for He has engraved His own upon the palms of His hands and He never forgets them. When your own thoughts are many and troubling, His thoughts remain thoughts of peace. He seeks your peace, He creates your peace, He sustains your peace through Jesus Christ.

The peace you need is not a peace you can work up within yourself, nor a peace that comes from trying to answer every intrusive thought. Scripture says, You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You. That perfect peace is a present possession, and it whispers within not by your own reasoning but by the blood of Jesus. As one has said, the blood of Jesus whispers peace within. There is a false peace which quiets conscience for a time, but true peace is a blessing from the God of all peace, purchased by Christ and wrought by the Holy Spirit in the soul. It is Christ's own peace, calm and profound, given to those who trust Him.

Your thoughts in this trial are not God's thoughts. For My thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways My ways, says the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts. Therefore do not take every thought that enters the mind as a true guide. Bring your mind to stay upon the Lord Jesus and upon His Word, which cannot lie. When a thought says you are watched and hated, answer it with what God has said, that His thoughts toward you are precious and of peace, and that in Jesus you are kept safe. When anger rises, carry that sorrow to Him at once, and bear it with Him, for He is unmoved though you are troubled, and He can renew your peace.

I pray for you now that the Lord will bless you with this well founded peace in believing. May He lift you as on eagles wings above these anxious and fretful thoughts, and keep your mind stayed upon Christ. May He show you that through the atonement of His Son you have peace with God, and from that fountain may a crystal stream of peace flow into your conscience. May He teach you day by day to distrust the tormenting suggestion and to trust the faithful promise of Him who thinks thoughts of peace toward you, and may He give you an expected end in His tender care.

Seek to walk closely with the Lord in prayer and in His Word, and share this burden with a faithful pastor or a trusted believer who can pray with you and counsel you continually, and if this distress remains heavy, seek help from those who can support you in this struggle. You are not forgotten in this conflict. The Lord who numbers His thoughts toward you, which are more in number than the sand, is still with you when you awake, and He is able to keep you in perfect peace as you trust in Him.
