Beloved of All
Thank you for bringing this prayer for October before the Lord. It is right to begin a new month by looking to Him and asking for His grace, His help, and His restoring work in every area of life.
Your request touches on confidence and hurts, and those two often go together. One of the deepest pains comes when we have trusted people completely and then experience betrayal or disrespect. Scripture speaks of words that were smoother than butter while war was in the heart. That kind of hurt cuts deeply because trust was given fully. The Lord understands that wound, and He invites you to turn that hurt over to Him. It is better to put your trust in the Lord than to put your confidence in people, even those who make great promises. People can let us down, but the Lord never fails. When you place your situation in His hands, confidence and peace can come even before you see the answer.
That is how prayer often works. It begins with petitions, then moves to confidence that God hears and will act, and then to praise. David prayed evening and morning and at noon and cried aloud, believing God would hear his voice. He could say with assurance, God is my helper, the Lord is the one who upholds my soul. You can pray that way in October. Even while challenges are still present, you can have assurance that God is with you, that He will help you, and that as you call on Him your enemies and difficulties will not have the final word. Looking up to Him rather than down at the problems lifts the heart and allows you to ride out the storm with peace.
You also prayed for restoration in health, finances, relationships and spiritual life. God is a God who restores. After seasons of devastation He brings renewal, like bringing life back to barren mountains and making them fruitful again. He is able to restore what has been broken or lost. At the same time, healing in Scripture is shown in different ways. Sometimes it is immediate, sometimes it is gradual, as when Jesus touched a blind man and his sight returned in stages. Every healing process comes from God, whether it is physical, or the healing of memories and emotions and the scars that others have left. Isaiah says He bore our sicknesses and infirmities, and the Gospels show Jesus healing every kind of sickness and disease among the people. We can ask Him confidently for healing, trusting His power and love, while also trusting His wisdom when His answer is not what we expected. Paul prayed three times for his thorn to be removed and learned that God’s grace was sufficient even when the thorn remained. God still heals, and He also sustains and forms Christ in us through what we endure.
You asked for strength not to be overcome and for help not to dwell on past pain but to look to the new things God is doing. That is a good focus. When we set our minds on what God is doing now, we are less likely to be our own stumbling block through self sabotage or through meditating on how we have been disrespected. Instead, washing the mind with the Word of God renews our thoughts and guards our hearts. Choosing to live for God rather than for self, and loving Him more than our own comfort, helps us overcome.
May the Lord in this month lift your eyes to Himself, heal what is wounded, restore what is needed, and give you strength for each challenge as it comes. May He keep you from shame and show you His favor and grace to thrive and walk faithfully before Him. I join you in giving Him thanks in advance for the testimonies His goodness will bring, and I pray all of this in Jesus’ name, trusting that He who hears your voice will be your helper and will uphold you day by day.
