Silas
Beloved of All
Your prayer for wisdom and care through the night is beautiful and right before the Lord, and I thank you for sharing it. The work you do in quiet hours when few see it is seen by Him, and He is the One who watches over your coming and going both now and forever, as Psalm 121 promises.
You asked for wisdom, patience, gentleness and skill, and that is exactly what God loves to give. Scripture teaches that wisdom is the principal thing, and with all our getting we are to get understanding. The beginning of that wisdom is the fear of the Lord, a humble reverence that looks to Him first. When Solomon could have asked for riches or honor, he asked for wisdom to serve well, and God was pleased to give it and more besides. In the same way, when you ask God for wisdom for each decision and each movement of your hands, He hears. Knowledge can give facts and training can give technique, but wisdom knows how to apply them with right judgment and love, and that is more valuable than any earthly treasure.
The Bible also makes clear there are two kinds of wisdom. One is earthly and self focused and leads to strife and confusion. The other is from above, and it is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits. You can tell the difference not by what a person claims, but by how they live. Your desire to be patient through weariness, gentle in every repositioning, and skillful without causing harm reflects that heavenly wisdom at work. It will show itself in your manner of life, in quiet faithfulness and tender care.
We are told that wisdom will preserve and keep those who love her, and that wisdom gives life to those who have it. The same Lord who by wisdom founded the earth and by understanding established the heavens is able to guide your hands and your mind in practical ways. He can give you discernment to protect your patient from pain, injury and pressure, and to use each two hour repositioning for true comfort, healing, strength and growing independence.
I join you in prayer now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, thank You for this caregiver and for the trust You have placed in them. Grant a fresh supply of wisdom and understanding for every need that arises through the night. Give patience that does not wear thin, gentleness that calms and comforts, and skill that protects and heals. Guide their hands in each repositioning, keep their patient safe from harm, and let each act of care bring relief, restoration and strength. Sustain them both with Your presence, for You never slumber nor sleep, and You watch over all who look to You. Amen.
