Prayer for new season

Your sense that a new season is coming and your desire to be ready for it is a good and wise prayer. God is not surprised by the changes ahead. He has a purpose for your life and He is the one who prepares you to walk in it.

Scripture says you are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works which He prepared beforehand that you should walk in them. That means your future is not random. When God created you He had in mind the work He wanted you to accomplish for His glory, and He has been shaping you all along to be ready for it. You can often look back and see His hand even from your earliest days, even before birth, gently guiding and forming you for what He has called you to do. Sometimes that preparation takes a long time, and sometimes a long season of preparation is for one particular moment or task that fulfills His purpose for you in that season.

Part of how He prepares us is by teaching us to trust Him day by day. He teaches us to depend on Him to supply our needs, to be faithful and careful with what He entrusts to us, and to walk by faith rather than by sight. As you see the shape of things begin to take form, you will more clearly understand what He has been preparing you for.

A new season also means God is doing a new work. Jesus taught that new wine must be put into new skins. God does not simply patch the old, He makes new. He has given you a new life in Christ, no longer centered on yourself but centered on Him, and He promises ultimately to make all things new, even a new heaven and a new earth where righteousness dwells and a new body that will never wear out. To be ready for a new work, He often asks us to have a soft and yielded heart that is ready to receive what He wants to pour out.

The best way to be prepared and not be caught off guard is to stay close to Jesus now. Continue in His Word, in prayer, and in faithful obedience in the small things of today. Ask Him to make your heart tender and willing for whatever He wants to do next. You will need patience as you wait for His timing, for He who has promised will come and will not delay beyond His perfect time. Live your life now for Him, not for yourself, trusting that as He works in you He is also preparing you for the good works He has already appointed for you.

Praying for you that God will give you peace about the future and readiness for what is ahead. May He strengthen your faith to trust Him more deeply, make you wise and faithful in what He has given you today, and give you a heart that is open to His new work. May He lead you step by step so that when the change comes you will walk into it with confidence, knowing that He has gone before you and has prepared you for such a time as this. In Jesus name, amen.
