We lift up your son with heavy hearts, grieving over the bondage of depression, alcohol, and smoking that has taken hold of him. These struggles are not merely habits, they are strongholds that steal joy, cloud judgment, and distance him from the peace and purpose God intends for his life. The Word of God declares, "The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly" (John 10:10 WEB). Your son was created for so much more than this cycle of despair, and we stand in the gap for him, believing that Jesus came to break every chain.
We rebuke the spirit of depression in the name of Jesus Christ, for Scripture tells us, "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to proclaim release to the captives, recovering of sight to the blind, to deliver those who are crushed" (Luke 4:18 WEB). Your son is not forgotten or abandoned by God, even if he feels that way. We pray that the Holy Spirit would minister to his heart, revealing the love of the Father and drawing him out of the darkness into the light.
We also address the sin of substance abuse, which the Bible warns against: "Don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body" (1 Corinthians 6:19-20 WEB). Alcohol and smoking defile the temple of the Holy Spirit and open doors to further spiritual attack. We rebuke the enemy’s lies that tell your son he needs these things to cope, and we declare that true freedom and healing come only through Jesus Christ. We pray that God would convict him of the harm he is doing to his body and spirit and give him the strength to turn away from these sins.
We join you in praying that your son would seek godly counseling, for "where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety" (Proverbs 11:14 WEB). Professional help, combined with the power of prayer and the support of a Christ-centered community, can be a lifeline for him. We ask the Lord to soften his heart to receive help and to surround him with people who will speak truth and life into his situation. May he find a counselor who points him to Jesus, the ultimate Healer and Redeemer.
We also pray for his return home, for the prodigal son in Luke 15 was welcomed with open arms when he came to his senses and returned to his father. We ask that God would stir in your son’s heart a longing for the love, safety, and accountability of his family. May he remember the values and faith he was raised with and desire to walk in them once again. We declare that the enemy’s plan to isolate him will fail, and that God’s plan to restore him will prevail.
Father God, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the name above every name, the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). We ask You to intervene in this situation and break every chain that binds this young man. Pour out Your Holy Spirit upon him, filling him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Remove the veil of depression from his mind and replace it with the hope that comes from knowing You. Give him the strength to resist the temptations of alcohol and smoking, and lead him to repentance and a renewed commitment to honor You with his body.
Lord, we ask that You would also strengthen and comfort this mother’s heart. Parenting a child who is struggling in this way is deeply painful, and we pray that You would be her refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1). Give her wisdom in how to love her son without enabling his sin, and fill her with faith to trust You even when the situation seems hopeless. Surround her with a community of believers who will support her in prayer and encouragement.
We declare that this is not the end of your son’s story. The same God who raised Jesus from the dead is able to bring life to dead places in his heart and mind (Romans 8:11). We speak healing over his emotions, restoration to his relationships, and a fresh outpouring of Your Spirit in his life. May he come to know You more deeply through this trial and emerge stronger in his faith, a testimony to Your redeeming power.

We have heard your burdened prayer for your son and we join our hearts with yours before the throne of grace. To see a beloved son cast down with depression and ensnared by drink and smoking is a sore trial, and the Lord who sees your tears will also hear your cries for him.
Be assured that our great God is the God of Peace and He has, on His part, prepared everything that is necessary for a perfect reconciliation. He has not left us to find out a way of reconciling ourselves to Him, for the work of reconciliation He committed to His Son, and the word of reconciliation He has committed to His servants. All we have to do is to tell in plain language what God Himself has written in this Book, that once in the history of the world the Son of God appeared to put away sin by the Sacrifice of Himself. When the Father looks upon His Son Jesus bearing our sin upon the Cross, it makes such an infinite impression upon His great soul that He forgets the sins for which His Son gave His life, and He will receive graciously and love freely all who come to Him through that atonement.
Your son is not beyond the reach of this mercy. For the Son of Man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. He loves still to be called the Son of Man, for He stooped low to be one of us that He might lift us up. If your son is wandering as the prodigal wandered, remember how it is written, when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him and had compassion on him. It was not with icy eyes that the father looked on his returning son. Love leaped into them. He ran and fell on his neck and kissed him much, and by that kiss said, Thou art my son. So the heavenly Father waits to be gracious to the returning sinner. All the promises in this Book belong to every repentant sinner who returns to God believing in Jesus Christ His Son.
We will pray that the Holy Spirit will work this reconciliation at once in your son. That He will bring him to himself in that far country, that He will break the chains of strong drink and smoking which now bind him, that He will lift the cloud of depression which settles upon his spirit, and that He will give him a willing mind to seek godly counsel. We pray that the Lord will lead him to counselling that will not merely speak of man, but will point him to Christ, and that He will incline his heart to go and to hear and to be healed. And we pray that He who heals the soul destroying plague of sin will bring him back home, not only to your house, but to his Father's house, where there is fellowship with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ.
Take comfort yourself in that fellowship even while you wait. We know what it is to cry out in serious pain and depression of spirit as David did, yet it is better to follow David's Son, that great Shepherd of the sheep whose every step it is safe to follow. Trust, trust, trust that word is the grandest word in the language of mankind. Trust Jesus, trust only Him. God gave up His only Son for our sakes and He understands your sorrow. Come to the Cross and look up and trust.
Let us pray together. O Father of mercies, look in compassion upon this wandering son. Thou hast loved Thine own with an everlasting love and hast given Thy Son to be a ransom for them. Let that love now overflow to this dear one who is oppressed and entangled. Convict him of sin, draw him by Thy Spirit, deliver him from the power of alcohol and from every bondage, lift the heaviness from his heart and give him hope in Christ. Make him willing to seek help and to return home, and grant that his return may be a true returning unto Thee. Reconcile him to Thyself through the blood of Jesus, and let him know the joy which this reconciliation brings. And sustain his parent with patience and prayer until the answer comes. We ask PROTECTION for them, thank You for these precious youngsters, that You care for us, even ALL OUR CHILDREN and EXTENDED FAMILY, Ps 23:3 Isa 40:11, Ezek 34:15, Rev 7:17. JESUS, Take care of tour little ones, comfort and feed them and us, for You have given us a Shepherd after Our Father's Heart, even Jesus, so kindly FEED THEM on wisdom and knowledge, Jer 3:15.
Give Your angels charge over my youngster, his cousins, and the family's "nieces and nephews," friends, parents, uncles, aunts and babysitters -- even all the children of those that congregate here and our fellow believers in spiritual battles, Ps 91:9-16, Heb 1:14. Strengthen our children, our brothers and sisters, even shepherd the entire flock of God among us, 1 Pet 5:2, Acts 20:28. Thank You for "mothers in Israel," and dads on here, who are on guard for not only themselves, but especially for the young ones from evil and warped wolves, Acts 20:28-29, evil people and imposters, 2 Tim 3:13, even if they are "clergy" or "ministers," Strengthen and heal any hurt youth, and give them all in the faith needed for intercession long-term (some of us are believing for YOUR protection remotely for OUR little ones) with power and might through the Holy Spirit to know the dimensions of Your love, Eph 3:14-18, even NOW shed the love of God abroad in their hearts by The Holy Spirit, Rom 5:5.
Be near (The ANGEL of THE LORD CAMPS ALL AROUND those who FEAR HIM, Ps 34:7) the little ones AND bind those wicked people in evil who are in need of deliverance, binding the enemy NOW, in the AUTHORITY of JESUS, Matt 28:18, until the proper time of deliverance by just saying the Word, Matt 8:8, and draw them, us and all around us to Jesus. Especially draw those weary and heavy laden, that You might give them rest, Your yoke is easy and burden is light, so they find rest for their souls, Matt 11:28-30.
Work everything out for the furtherance of the gospel, Phil 1:12, work EVERYTHING together for good, Rom 8:28, according to the counsel of YOUR WILL, Eph 1:11. WE submit to GOD, resist the devil and it is written, "He will flee from us," James 4:7, 1 Peter 5:9, from demoniacs, Mark 16:15-17, from all, since the church YOU built on WHO YOU ARE AS THE MESSIAH will always prevail over the gates of hell, Matt 16:17-18. We pray the armor of God on this one, even now, keep their eyes from seeing, hearing or speaking evil, and their minds AND bodies to be KEPT FROM THE EVIL ONE AND EVIL PEOPLE, 2 Tim 3:13, 2 Thes 3:2, "See to it you do not cause one of these little ones to stumble for it would be better to be drowned with a millstone," Matt 10:42, Mk 9:42, Lk 17:2, "SEE TO IT YOU DO NOT DESPISE even ONE of these LITTLE ONES, for I (Jesus The Risen King) say to you their angels ALWAYS see the Face of Our Father," Matt 18:10.
