I am a landlord and one of my tenants currently work for a shady business that apparently has to do with multi level marketing, pyramid schemes, ponzo schemes. Now there is nothing wrong with my tenant, legally, but I ask that he is prayed for, so that the Lord protects him and his family and provides guidance. Thanks and amen.

Prayer Focus: God, Thank You for loving me. Thank You for loving me, Jesus. God, I ask You in Jesus’ name please bless me with everything that I stand in need of and everything You want me to have. God bless me to prosper, walk in excellent health, and never stop growing in the love, grace, wisdom, and knowledge of Christ Jesus. God bless me to know You in truth, fall in love with You with all my heart, mind, soul, body, and strength and never fall out of love with You. God, bless me to have an ever growing closer stronger, more intimate relationship with You. Bless me with the love, desire, strength, and the spirit of obedience to always delight myself in You, seek first Your kingdom, Your righteousness, and to always respect and obey You. Bless me to know You, so that I can trust You with all my heart, acknowledge You in all my ways, and lean not to my own understanding. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.

We come before the Lord with a heavy heart for your tenant, recognizing the dangers that lurk in the shadows of deceptive business practices. The Bible warns us clearly about the perils of greed and schemes that exploit others. Proverbs 13:11 tells us, "Wealth gained dishonestly dwindles away, but he who gathers by labor increases it." And in 1 Timothy 6:9-10, we read, "But those who are determined to be rich fall into a temptation, a snare, and many foolish and harmful lusts, such as drown men in ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some have been led astray from the faith in their greed, and have pierced themselves through with many sorrows."

We rebuke the spirit of deception that seeks to entangle your tenant in these schemes. The enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that we may have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). We pray that the Lord would open your tenant’s eyes to the truth of these schemes and deliver him from any entanglement before it brings harm to him and his family. May the Holy Spirit convict his heart and lead him away from anything that does not align with God’s will for his life.

Father, we ask that You surround this man and his family with Your divine protection. Shield them from financial ruin, emotional distress, and any spiritual attack that may come as a result of this situation. Provide him with wisdom and discernment to recognize the truth and the courage to walk away from anything that does not honor You. We pray that You would place godly influences in his life, people who will speak truth, offer sound counsel, and point him toward honest work that provides for his family without compromise.

Lord, we also ask that You provide for his needs in a way that glorifies You. If he is in this situation out of financial desperation, we pray that You would open doors of opportunity for him, honest work that sustains his family and allows him to walk in integrity. Remind him that his worth is not found in wealth or schemes but in You, the Provider of all things. Philippians 4:19 assures us, "My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus."

We declare that no weapon formed against him shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17) and that he will walk in the freedom and abundance that comes from trusting in You. May he come to know You more deeply through this trial, and may his testimony be one of deliverance and restoration.

Thank you for bringing this to us. It is clear you genuinely care for your tenant and his family, not just as a landlord but as someone who wants the best for them. Few tenants have a landlord who prays for their wellbeing beyond the rent, what a quiet gift that is.

We are joining you in praying specifically for God’s protection over this man and his household. We ask for wisdom and clarity, that any fog of promises or pressure surrounding this business would lift, and that he would see clearly where he is standing. Sometimes the only way out of a trap is a growing unease that won’t go away, we pray that gentle, persistent unease would stir in him if this work is indeed harmful.

We also lift up his family: that they would be shielded from any fallout, financial or relational, and that God would provide for every genuine need, even in ways the tenant does not yet expect. Your prayer itself is a protection, a kind of interceding that places this man’s real welfare, his integrity, his livelihood, his home, into God’s hands.

You did not ask for a step, but perhaps simply check in with him as a caring neighbor from time to time. Sometimes a trusted, steady presence can become a safe place if he ever needs to voice doubt.

Let us pray:

Father, we lift this tenant to You. You see his work, his motives, and his vulnerabilities. Protect him from schemes that harm others and from any ruin that could crash into his own life. Give him clear eyes to recognize truth from deception, and grant him the courage to walk away if this path is crooked. Guard his family’s peace and their daily bread. Direct them to honest provision, and let Your guidance be unmistakable. We ask all this in Jesus’ name, trusting Your goodness over them. Amen.

The conviction which led the Psalmist to take a Guide must be born in this tenant's heart, for naturally we do not like being guided, yet his present course leads him where there is no true glory unless counsel comes from above. There are great principles infused in every man who takes God for his Guide, and among the rest, avoid everything that is evil. What fellowship has light with darkness? A business built upon deception and preying upon the credulous is a crooked path, and he who travels on the King’s Highway is under the King’s protection, but he who takes to byroads must protect himself.

Do you think that in the Day of Judgment, God will say to men, “You are not guilty, for that deception was the custom of the trade”? By no means! What does the Lord care about the customs of your trade? Do right, at all costs. Bowing with submission to the will of God, by that very fact we are furnished with unerring guidance. Let this tenant learn childlike trust in Providential guidance, that he may wait upon God to know what he shall do and not lean upon his own understanding. Haste is the author of great mischief, but the wait of faith receives angelic protection in appointed ways.

The sure result of such guidance is this: “You shall guide me with Your counsel, and afterward receive me to Glory.” But he cannot serve God and mammon. He came, if I remember rightly, of a family that got its living by the waterman’s business, looking one way and pulling another, apparently striving for religion, though all the while his eye was on the world. Such backsliding as this will soon make Jesus hide His face from us. Let him therefore come out from among them and touch not the unclean thing, that the Lord may receive him and his household into the ark of safety, for the whole family in Heaven and earth is one undivided household. Encouraged by the Glory which God has decreed, we press this practical point: Does he belong to that family through living faith in Christ? Then let him walk as a child of light, avoiding every appearance of evil, and the Lord shall guide him continually.

You have done well to bring this request, for it shows a care for your tenant’s soul beyond the rent he pays. Yet do not stop at prayer alone, but use the talent God has given you as a landlord to offer true protection. This work your tenant has undertaken, these schemes that promise quick gain, are snares of the world. They glitter like gold but are only dust and shadows. Wealth is not a possession but a loan for use; it is external to us, and when we die, willingly or unwillingly, it passes to others. Only the virtues of the soul, only almsgiving and love, go with us into the life to come.

Therefore, do not merely ask the Lord to guard him and his family, though that is needful. Act as one who has been entrusted with a talent for the common good. You are not just a collector of rent but a guardian of souls, charged to protect the injured and care for strangers. Speak to your tenant with gentleness but with bold truth. Warn him that businesses built on deceit, even if legally tolerated, cannot bring the blessing of God. They are a path that seems right to men but ends in ruin. Help him to see that the bread of honest labor is better than the riches of a scheme, for the Lord loves a righteous scale.

Let your table be open to him, and there, as a friend and brother, enjoin him to examine his ways. Be to him as one who feeds the hungry by offering true counsel, not just a meal. And while you pray for his protection, also pray that his heart may turn from vanity to the pursuit of heavenly treasure. For nothing pleases God so much as when we use our position to build up others, that both landlord and tenant may stand together before Christ with confidence. So pray without ceasing, yes, but also work for his soul, that you may both receive the blessing that comes from God and not be found naked of good works in the day of judgment.

Your prayer for your tenant reaches toward something deeper than just a troubling work situation. It touches on the longing we all share for those under our care to walk in wisdom and safety. Schemes that promise quick riches have a way of ensnaring people, and the thoughts of the diligent tend toward plenty, while get-rich schemes leave a person broken. So your concern is well placed.

The real issue is what a person comes to trust in for security. A horse is prepared against the day of battle, but safety is of the Lord. Except the Lord keep the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. We can easily imagine that a certain income stream or business model will protect us, but true protection rests only in God's hands. He alone is the one who builds the house and guards those within it.

A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favor rather than silver and gold. That is a hard truth when a person has grown comfortable with something shady, even if it stays just inside the legal line. Right now your tenant may not see it, but integrity before the Lord matters more than any multiplier of money, and the cost of tolerating what is spiritually unhealthy can spread into a family over time.

I would encourage you to lift up this tenant before the Lord, not only for outward protection but for God to stir a deeper hunger for righteousness. Pray that the opportunity would come for honest conversation, and that the Lord would give you the right words at the right time, spoken with genuine care. Your own steady example of doing business uprightly can speak volumes.

Where a family has been exposed to something morally questionable, the best foundation is to give God's word its proper place again. David asked, how can a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed according to God's word. The Lord wants to lift people to a higher level, out of bondage and into the freedom of being His children. He loves this tenant and his family enough to meet them where they are, but He is always calling them upward. Let that be the heart of your prayers: that they would come to desire the security and the good name that can only come from walking with the Lord, and that their household would be established in what is true.
