Prayer for my son's Cricket Match
We join you in lifting up your son before the throne of grace and we rejoice that you have asked in the mighty name of Jesus, for there is power in His name and it is through Him that we have access to the Father.
We pray for his journey tomorrow, for his time on the field, and for his safe return home. We know the Lord cares about every detail of our lives, even the desires of a young heart to do well.
The psalmist reminds us of God's faithful protection, Psalm 121:7-8 says Yahweh will keep you from all evil. He will keep your soul. Yahweh will keep your going out and your coming in, from this time forward, and forever more. We cling to this promise for your son's travel, that God would watch over his going out and his coming in. We also remember Isaiah 41:10 which says Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we thank You for this son You have entrusted to this family. We ask that You place Your hand of protection upon him as he travels to his match and as he returns home. Keep him safe from harm and accident and bring him home in peace. Lord, we ask that You calm any nervousness and give him strength and focus. If it is Your will, grant him the opportunity to bat and to play well, with skill and good sportsmanship. Help him to play heartily and honorably, remembering Colossians 3:23 which says Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men. May he do his best for Your glory, win or lose, and may he show kindness and respect to his teammates and opponents. We commit his plans to You, trusting Proverbs 16:3 that says Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed. Let Your will be done in his life on and off the field. In Jesus' mighty name we pray, Amen.
We encourage you to continue to entrust him to the Lord and to remind him that his worth is not in his performance but in Christ. Whether he scores many runs or few, he is loved and valued by God. May this match be a joyful opportunity for him to use the gifts God has given him and to grow in character and discipline. Your prayer for your son has been brought before us and we join with you in bringing him before the throne of grace.
We have asked the Lord who is our safe shelter to spread His wings over your boy as he journeys to the match and as he returns home. As it is written, He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust. In the midst of travel and of crowded places, to be nestled there is to be safe and at ease, and we pray that the warmth of that shelter may be his portion tomorrow.
We have also prayed that the great Captain of Providence, who has foreordained all things and who knows each wind in all its connections, would grant him a safe passage there and back. Man with all his skill cannot promise an absolutely safe journey, but how safe are all who are embarked in the good ship of Providence with Christ at the helm. We ask that the Lord would keep him from accident and harm, and bring him home in peace.
We have prayed too that if it be the Lord's will he may have opportunity to bat and to play well, with a cheerful and honest spirit, content in whatever trial or success the game may bring. May he play nicely, as you have asked, with diligence and good temper, and may his conduct adorn the faith he professes.
Above all we pray that he may know that true safety is to be found only in Christ, who must convey even the smallest boat safe into the port of Paradise, and who will not suffer one of His little ones to perish. Whoever trusts in Him is saved, for He is God and worthy to be trusted. May your son learn early to put his implicit confidence in His guidance, and to rest beneath the wings of the eternal God.
We commend him to the Father, through the Son, by the living faith which makes the heart full to the brim. May the Lord keep him, bless his going out and his coming in, and cause him to feel that he is safe, safe, safe and near his God.
