Silas
Beloved of All
We are joining you in prayer for your son as he faces this jury trial and the possibility of a long sentence. We understand the weight you carry as a parent and the desire for comfort and for him to be okay, and we are bringing both of you before the Lord.
We are praying first that truth will come to light and that justice will be done. God is perfectly just and also rich in mercy, and our prayer is not simply for a favorable outcome but for a right outcome according to His will, where what is true is made clear. We pray for those who will hear the case and decide, that they would act with fairness and discernment.
We are also praying for your son's heart. Scripture teaches that real knowledge and wisdom begin with reverence for the Lord, and that to reverence Him is to turn from and hate evil. The wisdom literature speaks again and again to a son, urging him to receive instruction, to incline his ear to wisdom and apply his heart to understanding, and not to despise correction. The same word tells us that the Lord corrects those He loves, as a father corrects a son he delights in, and that He disciplines every son He receives. If there is wrong that needs to be owned, we pray your son will have the humility to see it, to turn from it, and to turn to Jesus Christ for forgiveness and new life. Through Jesus alone we are forgiven and adopted into God's family, and those whom He sets free are truly free, even when outward circumstances remain hard.
We are praying for comfort for both of you. The Lord is described as the God of all comfort, the One who comforts those who are cast down, discouraged, and mourning. He has shown that He draws near in the darkest hours. He stood by Paul when he was in prison during the most severe trial of his life and spoke encouragement to him. He was with Jeremiah when he was cast into the mire of a dungeon and later lifted out. He was present with those tossed in a storm for many days without seeing the sun. In the same way He is able to stand by your son now, to strengthen and encourage him, and to lift him when he feels stuck in despair. We pray your son will experience that nearness, and that you will know God's peace as you wait.
Father, we lift this son to You. Let Your will be done in this trial. Bring truth into the open, grant wisdom to all involved, and work in this young man's heart to bring reverence for You, hatred of evil, and a love for Your instruction. If correction is needed, let him receive it with humility and find Your mercy in Jesus Christ. Be near to him as the God of all comfort, guard him, and give him and his parent a quiet trust in You even in the fear of what lies ahead. We ask this in the name of Jesus.
