Prayer for my son ###

Aerairziinrad

Disciple of Prayer
His entire behavior has changed. He doesn't want to pray. Every time I pray, he runs away and tells me not to pray. I cast all demonic spirits out of him. He just turned ### years old.

We are deeply concerned to hear about the sudden change in your son’s behavior, especially his resistance to prayer and spiritual things. This is not just a phase, it is a spiritual battle, and we stand with you in fervent prayer and intercession. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), but Jesus came that we might have life and have it abundantly. We rebuke every spirit of rebellion, hardness of heart, and deception that may be influencing him, and we command them to flee in the mighty name of Jesus Christ!

Scripture warns us that in the last days, some will turn away from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons (1 Timothy 4:1). This does not mean your son is lost forever, but it does mean we must war in prayer for his soul. The Bible tells us that "the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds" (2 Corinthians 10:4). We take authority over every lying spirit that has taken hold of his mind and emotions, declaring that the light of Christ will break through the darkness.

We also want to gently remind you that while we cast out demonic influences, we must also examine whether there are worldly influences, ungodly friendships, media, or habits, that may be opening doors to these attacks. The Bible says, "Do not be deceived: Evil company corrupts good habits" (1 Corinthians 15:33). We encourage you to lovingly but firmly guard what he is exposed to, while continuing to model Christlike love and patience.

Most importantly, we must address the fact that salvation is a personal decision. While we can pray, fast, and intercede, your son must ultimately choose to surrender his life to Jesus Christ. There is no other name under heaven by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If he has never truly confessed Jesus as Lord, we must pray for the Holy Spirit to convict him of sin, righteousness, and judgment (John 16:8). If he once knew the Lord but has wandered, we pray for his heart to be softened and for God to draw him back with cords of love (Hosea 11:4).

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this precious young man. Lord, we ask that You would break every chain of rebellion, deception, and spiritual blindness in his life. We rebuke every demonic spirit that has taken hold of his mind, emotions, or will, and we command them to flee in the name of Jesus Christ! Father, we ask that You would surround him with Your angels, that no weapon formed against him would prosper (Isaiah 54:17).

Lord, we pray for a mighty outpouring of Your Holy Spirit upon him. Soften his heart, convict him of sin, and draw him back to You. If he has never truly known You, we ask that You would reveal Yourself to him in a powerful way, through dreams, through Your Word, through godly influences. If he has wandered from the faith, we ask that You would restore him, for You are near to the brokenhearted and save those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).

Father, we also pray for wisdom and strength for his mother. Give her the words to speak, the patience to endure, and the faith to believe that You are at work even when she cannot see it. Help her to trust in Your promises, knowing that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20).

We declare that this young man is not abandoned to the enemy. He is a child of God, bought with the precious blood of Jesus, and we claim his life for Your kingdom. We speak life, restoration, and revival over him. May he come to know You as his Savior, his Lord, and his closest Friend. In Jesus’ mighty name we pray, Amen!

We encourage you to keep praying, even when it feels like nothing is changing. Your prayers are not in vain. The Bible says that "the effective, fervent prayer of a righteous person avails much" (James 5:16). Stand on God’s promises, and do not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season you will reap if you do not faint (Galatians 6:9). Surround your son with godly influences, mentors, friends, and a church community that will speak truth into his life. And above all, continue to love him unconditionally, just as Christ loves us.

We know how unsettling it is when a child suddenly pulls away from the spiritual rhythms that once felt familiar, especially prayer, that simple and sacred place where you could meet together. A shift like this at ### often has more to do with the normal, even healthy work of growing into an independent person than with rebellion or darker causes. At that age, asking hard questions and pressing against what has always been expected can actually be part of God's design for them to develop a faith that is truly their own, not just borrowed from us.

What we hear in your note is how much you love him and how hard you are fighting for him, and we want you to know you are not alone in that. Right now, one of the most powerful things you can do is give him a little space while staying steadily present. When he runs off or tells you not to pray, you might simply say, "I understand," and then let your own life pray without words for a while, through a calm tone, a listening ear, and the thousand small mercies that make a home feel safe. Pressuring him, and especially the language of casting things out, might unintentionally frame his entirely normal developmental work as something sinister to him, which can push him further away. Instead, try holding your fight in your own quiet prayer times, praying for him more than at him, and trust the Spirit to do the slow, unseen work of drawing his heart.

We are praying with you:

Lord Jesus, you know a mother's heart and the ache of watching her child struggle. We ask you to quiet the fear in this mom and give her the wisdom to accompany her son with patience rather than alarm. Protect his mind and body through these adolescent years, and gently reawaken in him a desire to know you, free and unforced. Hold this family in your steady love. Amen.

Be patient with the lad. Bring him to church. Read him a children's Bible before bed. Remind him that God loves him. Lord we pray for our children and for the members of your church that we would love eachothet. Lord that we would be strong in the faith in that we love to pray for eachother and for your church. May Lord Yeshua and Father God watch over you and your son. Thank you Father God. Lord Yeshuas nsme amen.

When a little child of ### years flees from the sound of prayer, it is a grief that cuts deep into a parent’s heart. Yet be not quick to see in every childish aversion the immediate hand of the Evil One. The old Adam within us all stirs early, and a young will untamed may display rebellion without any extraordinary malevolent influence. You speak of casting out demonic spirits; remember, deliverance is the exclusive work of the Most High, he has delivered us from the power of darkness, and translated us into the kingdom of God's dear Son. None can command the unseen realm by their own voice, nor dare we presume to summon or dismiss spirits as though we held the keys. Go carefully here, lest self-conceit tear the chariot wheels from your supplications and leave them dragging heavily.

Your son’s flight from prayer may be a season of unanswered prayer for you, one of those times when heaven seems brass. The like doth God do at many seasons: he permits the arrow of seeming silence to pierce the soul. Yet neglect not your own closet; be much in supplication for this tender lamb. He that is mighty on his knees is mighty everywhere. And though the child runs and bids you cease, do not cease to bear him before the throne in quiet, persistent faith. Prayer, mighty prayer, will yet prevail if it has but time.

Consider also whether there may be some chastening in this. What son is he whom the father chastens not? The Lord’s rod is a profitable instrument, not given in wrath but in covenant love. Perhaps the child’s sudden change is a warning to examine your own heart, are there overlooked sins, a slackness in devotion, a leaning upon your own understanding? True prayer pleads the promises with all humility, spreading the case before the Lord and pressing the suit with arguments drawn from his Word. Get the promise, then offer the prayer; but get your own fancy into your head and it will be of no service to you.

Look to the Ransom God has found. The deliverance from the pit came when the Lamb was slain. None would have thought of that way if God had not invented it. So lay hold of Jesus for your son. Be thankful that even this trial gives you something to declare: “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” The hour of deliverance is struck in heaven, and the eternal purpose shall not miss its moment. Wait upon God with a filial spirit, and while you wait, let there be no forcing of outward forms upon the child. Live Christ before him, and trust the Spirit to do what no man can.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

You cast out demons? And who appointed you an exorcist? It is not for every Christian to command spirits in their own name, as though any power dwelt in our words. Such boldness often springs from pride, and pride opens a door to the very enemy you think you are driving away. Did the Apostles himself not say, “Lifting up holy hands without wrath and doubting”? Yet you wage war as though the battle were yours alone, forgetting that Christ alone is the High Priest who ever lives to make intercession. He saves to the uttermost those who come to God by Him; He needs no successor, for He never dies. But you have put yourself in His place, commanding spirits as if you held the keys of the abyss.

Consider your son. He is but a child, and now he runs from your prayers. Why? Perhaps because he sees in them not a mother’s gentle love, but a strange and fearsome zeal. You cast out spirits, but have you examined your own heart? Is there wrath there? Resentment? A desire to control rather than to entreat? When we pray with anger or self-righteousness, we do not heal: we pierce ourselves with the arrows of the wicked one. God does not hear us for our many words, nor for our commanding tone. He hears the humble, the persistent widow who would not give up, the friend who knocked at midnight not for friendship’s sake but for his importunity. Pray, then, with tears and thanksgiving, even for this trial. Give thanks that God may use it to teach you patience, to teach your son to seek the Lord not by force but by the drawing of love.

Do not say, “I have no need of others’ prayers.” Even Paul asked for the Church’s intercession. You are not above the Apostle. Enlist the faithful to pray with you and for your son, not against him, but that he may be delivered from the self-chosen madness of youth. The young often turn from God not because a demon has seized them, but because they wish to taste the world. This is a sickness of the will. Your duty is not to cast out what you cannot see, but to make your home a place of peace, to live the gospel so that your son beholds Christ in you. Let your prayers be in secret, spoken more to God than to your son’s ears. Fast, give alms, and above all, trust in the intercession of Him who is able to save completely. For He has not left caring for us, but even now, seated at the right hand of the Father, He makes intercession, not because He needs to persuade the Father, but to show the vehemence of His love. Flee to that love. Lay your son before the throne with groans that cannot be uttered, and leave him there. God is not deaf. But let your hands be holy, your heart without wrath, and your spirit ever mindful that you are a suppliant, not a commander. Then, in His time, you will see the fruit.

The sudden change in your son’s behavior is deeply distressing, and your heartbreak over his refusal to pray is completely understandable. When a child who once seemed open suddenly bolts from the very mention of prayer, it stirs a parent’s spirit to fight. Your impulse to take authority over anything dark that might be influencing him comes from a place of fierce love, and Scripture shows that demonic forces are real, they can oppress and deceive. We see in the ministry of Jesus that unclean spirits did cry out and manifest when confronted, and there are times believers must stand against such things.

Yet I want to gently encourage you to consider the whole counsel of God on how these battles are won. It’s easy to treat prayer as a weapon that forces an immediate outcome, but the prayer life Jesus modeled and taught is not about compelling our will to be done right now. The purpose of prayer is to align ourselves with God’s purposes, to open the door for Him to work in His way and in His timing. God will not violate the freedom of choice He gave your son, but persistent, surrendered prayer invites the Holy Spirit to do what only He can do in a heart.

During seasons when an answer doesn’t come quickly, it’s often more about what God is refining in us than about changing His mind. He allows the test of our faith and the stretching of our patience. I can’t promise that a single command will immediately resolve this, but I can assure you that the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous person accomplishes much. So keep praying, not as a transaction, but as a mother who lays her whole heart before the Father, asking for mercy, wisdom, and His will to be done in her son’s life, even as she confesses her own need to trust Him more.

Don’t let weariness or fear cause you to stop. Continue in prayer, and watch with thanksgiving. Instead of focusing solely on what you see in your son’s outward reaction, let your own heart be quieted before the Lord. Ask Him to show you how to pray, to reveal any subtle ways your own desires might be clouding your intercession. The goal is not to get your son to simply parrot a prayer, but to see his heart genuinely drawn into a relationship with the Lord. That kind of work begins on our knees, often in the hidden place, and it often takes time.

When you sense that darkness is pressing against him, you can absolutely take your stand in Christ’s authority. But pair that with the humble prayer of a mother who says, “Not my will, but Yours be done.” The prayers that have moved God’s hand throughout history have been those springing from a heart desperate for God’s glory, not just relief from pain. Let your prayer be, “Lord, deliver him from the oppression of the enemy, but more than that, let Your face shine upon him and draw his heart to You in Your perfect time.”

You are not alone in this fight. The Spirit intercedes when we don’t know what to pray, and the body of Christ stands with you. Keep bringing your request before the throne, not with anxious demands, but with the steady confidence that your Father knows exactly what is happening and loves your son even more than you do.
