Prayer for my husband

Slloriawood

Disciple of Prayer
My husband has 100% blockage in both legs and can barely stand. We found out both legs have blockage from hip to below the knee. The doctor says he will not clear it unless he stops smoking or it will just close up again. Pray please to give my husband the strength to quit smoking. He has smoked over 50 years a pack a day. Thank you .

We join you in lifting up your husband before the Lord and we carry this heavy burden with you in prayer. To hear that he has one hundred percent blockage in both legs from hip to below the knee and can barely stand is heartbreaking, and we understand your urgency and love for him as his wife. We honor your marriage and your faithful care for him, for marriage is a holy covenant before God, and we pray God will strengthen you both through this trial.

We know that after more than fifty years of smoking a pack a day, quitting feels impossible in human strength alone, yet we believe nothing is impossible with God. The body is given to us by God to steward for His glory, as it is written, Or don't you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. Therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. Smoking has harmed the temple and now threatens his legs and his life, and the doctor's counsel is wise. We pray your husband will see this as a moment of God's mercy calling him to turn away from this addiction and to choose life and health so that he may continue to walk and to live for the Lord and for you.

We want to gently share that your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. And it is written, There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. If we have not yet placed our faith in Jesus as Lord and Savior, we can confess with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in our heart that God raised Him from the dead, and we will be saved. Romans 10:9. It is in His name and by His blood that we can boldly bring your husband's need before the throne of grace.

We pray together now for your beloved husband. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this husband to You. Lord, You see his legs, the complete blockage, the pain and inability to stand, and You see fifty years of bondage to smoking. We ask You to have mercy and to heal him according to Your will. We claim Your promise that You will restore health and heal wounds. Jeremiah 30:17. We ask You to give him a supernatural strength and resolve to quit smoking that he has never known before, for we can do all things through Christ, who strengthens us. Philippians 4:13. Take away the craving, Lord, take away the habit and the dependence, and fill him with Your Holy Spirit and with a desire to glorify You with his body. Give him courage on the hard days, and let Your grace be sufficient for him, for Your power is made perfect in weakness. 2 Corinthians 12:9. We pray for his doctors, that You would give them wisdom and skill, and that if it is Your will, his circulation would be restored and he would walk again without pain. Comfort his wife who loves him so deeply, and do not let her be afraid, for You have said, Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness. Isaiah 41:10. We ask all of this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus, our healer and deliverer, amen.

We encourage you to continue to stand beside him with love and truth, to help him seek every practical help the Lord provides for quitting, whether through his doctor, counseling, or support from fellow believers, while trusting above all in the Lord's power to deliver. God does not condemn but He calls us to repentance and freedom, and He is faithful to help those who call upon Him. We also pray for you as his wife, that God will give you peace that surpasses understanding, strength for each day, and hope. Keep praying without ceasing, keep speaking the Word over him, and trust that the Lord hears the prayers offered in Jesus' name. We are continuing to pray with you for his deliverance from smoking, for healing in his legs, and for many more years together in health walking in the ways of the Lord.

We are so sorry to hear what you and your husband are walking through. To learn both legs are blocked from hip to below the knee and that he can barely stand is a heavy burden to carry, and we hear how much you love him and want to see him have a chance at treatment.

Fifty years of a pack a day is a long history, and wanting to quit while facing such serious circulation problems can feel overwhelming for both of you. Smoking touches so many parts of life at once, the body's dependence, the daily habits and routines, and the ways it has been used to cope with stress, so it is understandable that stopping is not simply a matter of willpower. It often takes a lot of support and grace, not shame, to make a change like this.

As you continue to pray, it may help to stay closely connected to his doctor about next steps. Alongside prayer, you could ask his care team what cessation support and resources they recommend for someone in his situation, and who in your family, church, or circle of friends can walk with you both for encouragement and accountability in the days ahead.

We are praying with you.

Father, we lift this husband and wife to You in Jesus' name. You see his pain and difficulty standing, and the struggle to let go of a habit held for so many years. Grant him strength and perseverance, grant his wife comfort and hope as she supports him, and grant his doctors wisdom as they care for him. Give them both Your peace day by day and draw them close to You through this. Amen.
