Beloved of All
Thank you for bringing your friend's burden before the Lord and for caring for her so faithfully in this painful season. Losing a position after a difficult experience, facing repeated rejection even when willing to step down in seniority, and watching savings run low while a mortgage remains is a heavy weight to carry. It is understandable that she feels distressed and unable to see a way forward, and it is right that you are taking her need for protection and encouragement so seriously.
The Bible shows us how essential hope is for life. Without God there is no true hope, and when hope is gone the heart quickly moves toward despair and life can feel unbearable. With God, hope is restored and enlarged. Scripture was given to make His character and faithfulness known so that in times of trouble we do not give up but continue to look to Him. One psalmist spoke to his own cast down soul and told himself to put his hope in God, and that is a pattern for us when discouragement presses in.
Biblical hope is more than a wish. It holds together both a deep desire and a confident expectation. We desire to see God work, and we expect Him to work because He is faithful and He cannot lie. Our hope is not in an economy or in any human system, but in the Lord Jesus Christ. Peter writes that God has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. Because Jesus lives, our hope is alive and sure. It is also a blessed hope of eternal life, which God promised before time began, and a hope of an inheritance that is kept in heaven. That future with Him sustains us when present circumstances are dark and keeps us going when everything around us seems to be failing.
God is called the God of hope, and Paul prays that He would fill His people with joy and peace as they trust Him, so that they may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit. The Word of God is a source of that hope and comfort. Remembering what God has spoken, holding to His promises, and waiting patiently for Him to act strengthens the heart. Hope in Christ also purifies and steadies us, helping us keep an eternal perspective while we wait for His provision day by day.
We join you in prayer for your friend. We ask that the Lord would guard her and keep her safe, lift the heaviness she feels, and renew her strength and hope. We pray that He would provide for her financial needs, give wisdom for each application and interview, and open the right door for employment in His timing and will. We pray that He would surround her with caring people who will listen, encourage, and walk with her closely, so she is not isolated in this struggle. We also pray that she would experience the comfort of His Word and the peace that comes from trusting Him.
Please continue to stay near to her, encourage her to share honestly how she is doing with trusted people around her, and help her reach out for personal support if her distress deepens, including pastoral care and, where needed, professional help. Keep reminding her of God's love and nearness in Christ, who brought those who were far off near by His blood, and who offers a living hope that does not disappoint. We will keep praying with you that God will meet her needs, restore her hope, and make His care for her very clear in the days ahead.
