URGENT PRAYER REQUEST FOR MY DEAR FRIEND

Please pray urgently for my dear friend ###.

### is a highly experienced senior HR professional who spent many years working at a large investment firm. She was respected by colleagues and other senior directors for her professionalism, ability and contribution.

Last year, she was made redundant following a very difficult period with her manager. Despite having strong support and positive feedback from other directors, she lost her position. She also had to fight hard to receive a fair redundancy package, which was eventually increased.

Since then, ### has been trying desperately to rebuild her career. She has applied for countless positions over the past ### months, including roles below her previous level, but she is finding it incredibly difficult to secure employment. She feels that her previous workplace may be affecting how potential employers view her, and she has become increasingly discouraged and hopeless.

She has a mortgage and financial responsibilities, and she is now reaching the point where her savings are almost exhausted. The pressure has become overwhelming.

Most importantly, ### is not coping emotionally with what has happened. I am deeply worried about her and frightened about what might happen to her. She has even given me the password to her phone in case something happens to her, which has made me realise how seriously distressed she is.

Please pray urgently for ###:

  • Pray that God protects her and keeps her safe.
  • Pray for strength and hope when she feels there is none left.
  • Pray for healing from the hurt and humiliation she has experienced.
  • Pray that the right employment opportunity opens for her soon.
  • Pray for financial provision and protection from losing her home.
  • Pray that the right people will recognise her experience, character and abilities.
  • Pray that she will know she is valued and that her life has purpose.
  • Most of all, please pray that she does not lose hope.
If you believe in the power of prayer, please remember ### today. She desperately needs support, encouragement and hope right now.

We have read your urgent request and we join with you in lifting your dear friend before the Lord, and we thank you for loving her so faithfully and carrying this burden with her. We bear one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ as Galatians 6:2 teaches, and we do not take lightly the weight you are carrying as you watch someone you care for suffer so deeply.

We are deeply moved and concerned by what you have shared about her emotional distress, especially that she has given you the password to her phone in case something happens to her. That tells us she is feeling overwhelmed, hopeless and perhaps that life has lost its value, and we want to gently and firmly say that her life is precious to God and to you. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit as Psalm 34:18 says, and He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds as Psalm 147:3 promises. We rebuke in Jesus name the spirit of hopelessness and despair and every lie that tells her she is forgotten, without purpose or without value. She is fearfully and wonderfully made, she has been given gifts and abilities that God has entrusted to her, and her worth is not measured by a redundancy decision or by the length of a job search. We urge you to stay close to her, to keep checking on her often, to not leave her isolated, and to lovingly encourage her to reach out right away for support from a trusted pastor, counselor, doctor or other caring professional, and if you ever fear she may act on thoughts of harming herself to seek help immediately and stay with her. We pray the Lord will place people around her who will listen, support and remind her she is not alone, for God Himself has said in Isaiah 41:10, Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness.

We also understand the heavy practical pressure she faces after many years of faithful service as a senior HR professional, the pain of being made redundant after a difficult period with her manager despite strong support from other directors, the struggle to receive a fair settlement, and now months of applying for countless positions even below her previous level without success. It is understandable she feels hurt, humiliated and discouraged, and fears how she is being viewed. Yet we know God sees her diligence, her professionalism and her contribution, and He is not limited by any previous employer or by closed doors. We cling to Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future, and to Romans 8:28, We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose. He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble as Psalm 46:1 says, and He invites the weary to come to Him, for Jesus said in Matthew 11:28, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. We cast all our worries on Him because He cares for us as 1 Peter 5:7 teaches, and we trust His promise in Philippians 4:19, My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus, and in Matthew 6:33 to seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well.

We pray together now for your dear friend. Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we have access to You and no other name by which we must be saved as Acts 4:12 declares, and Jesus Himself said in John 14:6, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. We thank You that because of Jesus we can approach Your throne of grace with confidence. Lord, we lift this precious woman to You. We ask You to protect her and keep her safe, to set Your angels around her and to guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. We ask You to pour out strength and hope where she feels there is none left, to lift the heaviness and to remind her that You are with her and will uphold her. We pray for deep healing from the hurt and humiliation she has carried since losing her position, that You would bind up her wounds and restore her dignity and confidence in You. We ask You to open the right employment opportunity for her soon, a position where her experience, character and abilities will be recognized and valued, where You will make a way that no man can shut. We pray for Your financial provision and for protection over her home, that You would supply what she needs for her mortgage and daily responsibilities and keep her from losing what You have provided. We pray that the right people, hiring managers and directors with discernment, will see her worth and give her favor. Most of all Father, we pray she will know she is deeply valued and that her life has abiding purpose in You, and that she will not lose hope but will feel Your nearness day by day. We pray also for our friend who intercedes for her, give wisdom, comfort and strength to continue to support her with love and truth.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we gently remind you that it is only through Jesus that our prayers are heard and our lives are saved. If you or your friend have not yet placed your trust in Him, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, for as Romans 10:9 says, you will be saved. He died for our sins and rose again so that we might have forgiveness, hope and eternal life, and He is the source of the hope we pray for today.

We encourage your friend to keep bringing her needs before the Lord each day, to remain diligent in seeking work while also resting in His care, to seek wise financial counsel if needed, and to stay connected to a local Bible believing church where she can be encouraged and prayed for in person. We encourage you to keep reminding her of truth, to speak life over her, to help her see each small step forward, and to continue to pray without ceasing. We will continue to join you in prayer, trusting that God who sees her tears and knows her needs will provide, protect and restore in His perfect time and way.

We are so grateful you reached out for your friend, and we hear how frightened you are for her.

If you believe she may be in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services right now. For free, confidential support, you or she can find a helpline in your country at findahelpline.com. You are not alone and trained people are ready to help right now.

We hear how much you care, and how heavy it has been to watch someone so capable and respected go through redundancy, months of applications, mortgage pressure, and the hurt of how she was treated. When stress is prolonged with no recovery time and a job loss touches identity and security, anyone can feel exhausted and hopeless. It is right to take her giving you her phone password very seriously.

You are already doing something important by staying close and noticing. Please do not carry this worry alone. Stay in regular contact, let a trusted family member, pastor or close friend know you are concerned so support is shared, and gently encourage her to reach out soon to her doctor or counselor alongside prayer. Helping her reconnect with people who have seen her professionalism and character can also remind her she is valued beyond this season.

Father, in Jesus name we lift this dear friend to You. Keep her safe, surround her with Your presence and bring strength for each day. Bring comfort for her hurt, hope where she feels hopeless, wisdom and open doors for work, and provision for her home. Show her she is seen, valued and not alone, and give her friend wisdom and peace as she supports her. Amen.

Your urgent burden for your dear friend has been heard and we join with you in earnest prayer before the throne of grace. Your love and watchful care for her in this dark hour is itself a Christian sympathy of the heart, such as Job knew when he could say he wept for him that was in trouble and his soul grieved for the poor. The Lord notes such intercession, and we take comfort from the word, The Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed for his friends. So we will pray for her, and we trust that as you stand in the gap for her, the Lord will turn her captivity also.

We understand the weight of what you describe. To be highly esteemed and diligent in her calling, and then to be cast aside after a difficult season with a manager, to have to contend even for what was justly due, and then to face month after month of closed doors, even for lesser places, is a trial that would wound any spirit. The pressure of a mortgage and failing savings, with the fear of losing a home, adds a heavy burden. And most of all, to see one you love so discouraged that she speaks as one ready to give up, even to entrust to you the password to her phone, is cause for deep and watchful concern. You have done right to take this so seriously and to bring it to the Lord and to others.

Hear what the Scriptures and the story of Job teach us for such an hour.

Job was a man perfect and upright, respected among his fellows, and yet he was brought into ashes. He lost estate and honour and for a time his glory was not fresh in him as it had been. He suffered not only bodily affliction but the dishonour of those who once looked up to him, and the pain of feeling as if God had left him a prey to the enemy. In his sorrow he spoke words tinged with hopelessness and murmuring, and he had afterwards to repent in dust and ashes. He had to swallow his murmuring and to retract his pleadings, confessing that God must be right. This is not to condemn your friend, but to show that even the most upright may be brought very low and may speak in the bitterness of their soul, and yet the Lord had never deserted His people. Jehovah revealed Himself to Job, and Job found a more vivid apprehension of Him, not in prosperity but in the place of brokenness. Though Job felt forsaken, it was not true. The same is true now. The Lord has not forsaken your friend, though she feels forsaken.

We must speak plainly and tenderly about the despair which now besets her. Despair whispers that there is no hope and no future, and it would have us lie down sullenly as if all were lost. Yet no mortal has a just pretense to perish in despair, for God Himself is the sinner's hope and He is not lost. Despair is a high insult to God, for it crowns the enemy in Christ's stead and says that mercy is defeated, when Christ has conquered. It degrades a man below the struggle that even the smallest creature makes to live. We say this not to wound her further, but to unmask the voice that tells her she is without value or purpose. That voice is a lie. Her life has purpose because she is made and sustained by God, and because Christ is able to keep and to restore. If Job could be upheld when all was taken, you may be sure that He can support her also. For it is written, In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly, and that triumph was not Job's own strength but Divine support. That same support is available still.

Remember also that the soul is of greater price than all the world. Such is the slavery of great riches and its anxieties, but though your friend fears the loss of home and place, her soul is capable of heaven and is precious in the sight of God. Temporal glory may fade for a season, as Job found, but we are reminded that Job at the last received twice as much as he had before, and that even the lower springs shall continue to flow till we are beyond the need of them. God is able to open the right door for employment in His time, and to cause the right people to recognise her experience and character and abilities. He who maintained Job's renown can maintain hers.

Therefore we will pray, and we urge you to continue in prayer with us:

We pray that God will protect her and keep her safe, and set a hedge about her in this vulnerable hour.
We pray that He will give her strength and hope when she feels there is none left, and that He will reveal Himself to her as her hope.
We pray for healing from the hurt and humiliation she has endured, and that she will repent of despair and find fresh trust in God who is just and merciful.
We pray that the right employment opportunity will open soon, according to His providence, and that financial provision will be made and her home protected.
We pray that the right people will see her true worth, and that she will know she is valued and that her life has purpose in Christ.
Most of all we pray that she will not lose hope, but will be able to say with Job, Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him, finding that when others despair, the child of God trusts.

And we entreat you, as her friend, to keep close watch over her. Do not leave her alone in this distress. Encourage her to seek help at once from her doctor, a trusted pastor, and those nearest to her. If she speaks of harming herself, help her to seek immediate support and remain with her while help is sought. In the United Kingdom you may contact Samaritans on 116123 or encourage her to present to her GP or to A and E, and to call 999 if she is in immediate danger. Your continued presence, your listening without judgement, and your pointing her gently to Christ, who alone is salvation, will be a great means of grace.

May the Lord turn her captivity as He did Job's, and anoint her again with fresh oil. We commend her and you to Him who hears the cries of the afflicted and who will not despise a broken and contrite heart. We will remember her before the Lord today and in the days to come, asking that she may see that her bow shall be renewed in her hand and her glory fresh in her through the mercy of God in Jesus Christ.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Thy Son, through whom alone is salvation, look in mercy upon this Thy afflicted servant. Keep her from all harm, lift her from despair, heal her wounds, provide for her daily bread and her home, open a door of honest labour suited to her gifts, let her know her value before Thee, and grant her to trust Thee and live. Amen.
