prayer for my dear friend

one of my good friends and I prayed today and just finished chatting and she is having fits of rage, I'm unsure how to support her because the bible frowns upon anger, and I want to help her get deliverance from the root wound, or deliverance if what she is going through is strictly demonic... in jesus name may she be fully healed and delivered ....

We join you in lifting up your dear friend before the throne of grace and we thank you for your faithful love and intercession for her. It is a beautiful thing that you prayed with her and stayed to chat with her, for we bear one another's burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.

We understand your concern about her fits of rage and your desire to support her biblically. Scripture does not teach that all anger itself is sin, but it warns us strongly about what anger can produce when it is not brought under the control of the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 4:26-27 says Be angry, and don’t sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, and don’t give place to the devil. And James 1:19-20 says So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger; for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God. A fool vents all of his anger, but a wise man brings himself under control, Proverbs 29:11. So we see that rage that erupts without self-control, that harms others or herself, that lingers into bitterness or unforgiveness, does give a foothold to the enemy and does not reflect the fruit of the Spirit, which includes self-control, Galatians 5:22-23.

You are right to ask about the root wound and about deliverance, because often persistent rage is not simply a bad habit but comes from a deep place of hurt, trauma, rejection, or unhealed pain, as well as from spiritual oppression. We do wrestle not only against flesh and blood, but against the principalities, against the powers, against the world’s rulers of the darkness of this age, and against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places, Ephesians 6:12. Yet we also know that our hearts need healing and our minds need renewing. He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, Psalm 147:3. The weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds, throwing down imaginations and every high thing that is exalted against the knowledge of God, and bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, 2 Corinthians 10:4-5.

We encourage you to continue to support her with gentle, steady love. Be swift to hear and slow to speak, pray with her and for her consistently, encourage her to confess and bring into the light any bitterness, unforgiveness, or past wounds, for James 5:16 tells us to confess our offenses to one another and pray for one another that we may be healed. Encourage her to seek wise, biblically grounded counsel, whether a mature pastor or Christian counselor, who can help her discern what is a wound needing inner healing and what may need deliverance prayer. Fast and pray as the Lord leads, speak truth over her identity in Christ, and do not try to carry this burden alone. Help her to stay in the Word, to memorize Scripture about anger and peace, and to practice pausing to pray before reacting.

We now pray together for her complete healing and deliverance.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our only Savior and our access to Your throne. We lift up this precious daughter to You and ask that You search her heart and reveal every root wound, every memory of hurt, every place where anger has taken hold. Lord, heal her broken heart and bind up her wounds. Forgive any sin, wash her in the blood of Jesus, and where there has been unforgiveness or bitterness, grant her grace to forgive as You have forgiven us. In the name of Jesus Christ we renounce every spirit of rage, wrath, and oppression and we command any foothold of the enemy to leave her now. Fill her afresh with Your Holy Spirit, clothe her with gentleness and self-control, and renew her mind with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Teach her to be slow to anger and quick to listen, and let Your love rule in her heart. Strengthen our friend who is interceding, give wisdom, patience, and discernment to know how to love and support without growing weary. We thank You that You are faithful to complete the good work You have begun in her. We ask all this in the powerful and healing name of Jesus Christ, amen.

We are grateful you prayed with your friend and are staying close to her in this. Watching someone you love struggle with sudden fits of rage can be confusing and heavy, especially when you want to honor what God says about anger and also get to the deeper wound underneath.

It can help to remember that anger itself is often a signal more than the whole story. For many people it rises up quickly when there is older hurt, present frustration, or fear about what is ahead. That does not make harsh outbursts okay, but it can lift some of the shame and help both of you look with more curiosity at what her anger might be flagging, rather than only battling the anger itself.

You do not have to sort out on your own whether this is mainly a heart wound, a learned pattern, or something that needs focused spiritual ministry. A steady next step is to encourage her, when she is calm, to meet with a mature pastor or Christian counselor who can listen well, pray with discernment, and help sort through those layers wisely. You can remain what you already are, a faithful praying friend who listens without trying to fix everything and who helps her stay connected to that kind of support.

Father, we lift this dear friend to You in Jesus name. You see her pain and her desire to be whole. Bring healing where there is wounding, peace where there is turmoil, and wisdom for those walking with her. Give her friend grace to love her well without carrying more than she should, and lead them both to trusted help and closer to You. Amen.

There is a true Christian love in your burden for your friend, and it is good that you have prayed together and that you now seek the Lord for her full healing and deliverance.

Scripture does speak plainly about anger, that sinful anger gives place to the enemy and does not work the righteousness of God, yet the Lord deals with His children not in wrath but in covenant love. As it has been said, He chastens sorely but He has not given us over unto death. Like a careful dispenser He measures every trial, not in anger but from dear covenant love, that we might be turned from sin and turned more fully to Christ. For this reason we may wisely moderate our anger against second causes, and look above them to the hand of the Father who alone can work true deliverance.

You ask wisely about the root. Where the root of bitterness is taken away, the evil which grows out of it is also removed. Fits of rage may spring from a deep wound of the heart, from long habit of the flesh, and they may also give opportunity to the adversary. In either case the remedy is not found in our own strength, for deliverance from the power of sin is as much the work of God as deliverance from the guilt of sin. Where we look for justification, there must we also look for sanctification, and that altogether to our heavenly Father through Jesus Christ.

Be encouraged that God has not only invented a way of deliverance, but He has found a ransom. The clock of mercy strikes in heaven the hour and moment of deliverance, for the Lord Himself has said, I have found a ransom. The prisoner ready to be executed finds undeserved deliverance from all punishment, for the King's own Son has borne the penalty of all his iniquities. This deliverance came when the Lamb was slain. He brings His people forth, and He does not bring them forth empty, but with enrichment, for He is able to make our deliverance effectual.

There is also an abundance of healing power in Jesus Christ. The leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. His fruit is sweet and nourishing, and even His leaves, the little things about Him, are full of healing virtue. These healing leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. When the Sun of Righteousness rises with healing beneath His wings, pardon and healing are found together. When Jesus healed the sick of the palsy He said, Son, be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you. Pardon and healing were one.

How then may you support her in this season.

Continue to pray with her and for her, that she may look continually to Christ crucified, to find in His wounds her healing and in His death her life. Encourage her to confess her anger plainly before the Lord without excuse, to seek His pardon and to receive His healing, for when we bewail our fault we receive deliverance. Help her to bring the root wound into the light before the Lord, that He who sees in secret may purge every evil and apply the healing leaves of His grace. Urge her not to confound liberty with license, but to pursue the holiness which belongs to those who have been delivered from the power of darkness. Walk with her patiently, speak the truth in love, and if the rage has been long or overwhelming, encourage her to seek wise and godly pastoral counsel alongside prayer, that she may be upheld and guarded.

Let us pray together for her now.

O Lord, our God who alone works deliverance with an outstretched arm, we thank You that You hear the cries of Your people and that Your ear is not shut to those who seek You through Jesus Christ. We bring before You this dear one who is troubled with fits of rage. You know the wound, the history, the temptations and the snares of the enemy. We ask in the name of Jesus that You would grant her pardon and healing together, that You would take away the root of bitterness and remove the fruit of sinful anger. We plead the ransom which You have found, the blood of Your Son shed upon the cross, and we ask that You would deliver her from the pit and from the power of darkness, and translate her more and more into the kingdom of Your dear Son. Rise upon her, Sun of Righteousness, with healing beneath Your wings, and let the leaves of the tree of life be applied to her heart, to change her spirit and make her new. Give her a meek and quiet spirit, teach her to be swift to hear and slow to wrath, and keep her by Your grace. And grant to her friend who intercedes for her wisdom, tenderness and steadiness to bear the burden with her and to declare Your works after You have wrought deliverance. We ask this in the worthy name of Jesus, our only hope and healer. Amen.
