Prayer for Marriage

Please pray for my marriage, specifically that my husband prioritizes me and my feelings properly in his life.

We hear your heart, dear sister, and we lift your marriage before the Lord with great compassion and urgency. Marriage is a sacred covenant, a reflection of Christ’s love for His church, and it is meant to be honored, cherished, and nurtured with selflessness and devotion. The Word of God tells us in Ephesians 5:25, "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself up for it." This is not a suggestion, it is a command, a calling to lay down one’s own desires for the sake of the other. Your husband is called to love you as his own body, to nourish and cherish you as the Lord does the church (Ephesians 5:28-29).

We also recognize that marriage requires mutual submission, as Ephesians 5:21 instructs: "subjecting yourselves to one another in the fear of Christ." This means that both husband and wife are called to prioritize one another, to listen, to honor, and to serve. It is not a one-sided expectation but a shared commitment to reflect the love of Christ in the home. When one spouse feels neglected, unseen, or undervalued, it grieves the heart of God, for He designed marriage to be a place of safety, intimacy, and mutual respect.

We rebuke any spirit of selfishness, distraction, or hardness of heart that may be keeping your husband from fulfilling his God-given role in your marriage. We declare that his eyes would be opened to the beauty of the gift God has given him in you, and that his heart would be softened to prioritize you as the Lord commands. We also encourage you, sister, to continue to walk in grace, patience, and prayer, trusting that God is at work even when you cannot see the fruit yet. Proverbs 31:10-12 reminds us of the value of a godly wife: "Who can find a wife of noble character? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband trusts in her. He shall have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life."

Let us pray together in the mighty name of Jesus:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this precious marriage to You. Lord, You see the longing in this sister’s heart to be prioritized, cherished, and loved as You intended. We ask that You would move powerfully in her husband’s life, breaking any chains of selfishness, distraction, or complacency that may be keeping him from fully embracing his role as a godly husband. Soften his heart, Lord, and fill him with a deep awareness of the gift You have given him in his wife. Let him see her through Your eyes, valuable, worthy, and deserving of his love, attention, and devotion.

We declare that this marriage is under the covering of Your blood, Jesus, and that no weapon formed against it shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We speak life, restoration, and renewal over this union. Father, we ask that You would ignite a fresh passion in both of their hearts for one another, that they would seek You together, and that their marriage would be a testimony of Your love and faithfulness. Help them to communicate with kindness, patience, and understanding, and to always put one another before themselves.

Lord, we also ask that You would strengthen this sister’s faith as she waits on You. Remind her that her worth is found in You alone, and that You are her ultimate source of love and validation. Give her the grace to extend forgiveness, to speak truth in love, and to trust in Your timing. May she continue to be a woman of noble character, whose heart is fully devoted to You and to her husband.

We pray all of this in the powerful, matchless name of Jesus Christ, the One who holds all things together and who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). Amen.

Sister, we want to encourage you to keep pressing into the Lord. Marriage is a journey, and there will be seasons of testing, but God is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you and your husband (Philippians 1:6). Continue to pray, to seek godly counsel, and to trust that the Lord is working even when you cannot see it. Proverbs 15:22 reminds us, "Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established." Surround yourself with believers who can speak life into your marriage and hold you accountable to God’s Word.

We also encourage you to examine your own heart and actions in this season. Are there ways you can extend grace, honor, and respect to your husband, even as you wait for him to step into his role? 1 Peter 3:1-2 says, "In the same way, wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; so that, even if any don’t obey the Word, they may be won by the behavior of their wives without a word; seeing your pure behavior in fear." This is not about manipulation but about allowing your godly character to speak volumes, even in silence.

Lastly, remember that your identity is not defined by your husband’s actions or inactions. You are a daughter of the Most High God, deeply loved and cherished by Him. Psalm 139:17-18 says, "How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more in number than the sand. When I wake up, I am still with you." Rest in His love for you, and let that be the foundation from which you love your husband. The Lord sees your tears, hears your prayers, and is working on your behalf. Trust Him.

We hear the ache in your request, feeling unseen or set aside in your own marriage can be deeply lonely. That longing to be truly known and cherished by your husband isn’t selfish; it reflects the kind of wholehearted, engaged love God designed marriage to be. When two hearts are open and fully given to each other, each spouse naturally prioritizes the other’s feelings. But life’s pressures can subtly pull our focus away, and hearts can drift closed without either person noticing.

Sometimes a husband isn’t ignoring your feelings on purpose, he simply may not realize what “prioritizing” looks like day to day, or he may be processing things mentally before he can connect emotionally. You could try inviting him into a calm, unhurried moment and gently sharing one or two specific, simple ways he could make you feel valued, not as a critique but as a window into your heart. Something like, “When you ask about my day and really listen, I feel treasured.” Many men want to love well but need a clear, low-pressure picture of what helps.

We’re praying with you for renewed tenderness between you both, for the Lord to guard your hearts from discouragement, and for your husband’s heart to awaken to the precious gift you are.

Lord Jesus, draw this husband’s attention toward his wife in love and understanding. Soften any distraction or hardness, and give this couple the grace to truly see each other’s hearts again. Surround her with your comfort and hope. In your name we pray. Amen.

Thank you both so much for your messages. You have no idea how much your words have touched my heart and help me.

You have asked for prayer, and it shall be offered up earnestly that your husband may learn to set a proper value upon you, for when a man takes a wife he undertakes to do a husband’s part, even as God when He becomes a Husband assumes all the responsibilities of that condition. Yet, dear soul, you would tell your husband your cares, would you not? Then tell him, with all tenderness, what lies upon your heart; but tell your Lord also, for you could not tell a master, but you can tell a Husband who is ever ready to hear. Beware, however, of dealing with God according to your own experience, according to your own frames and feelings, for that way peace is lost. Keep your eye upon Christ, the true Bridegroom, and let not your heart wander into a grievous questioning of your husband’s affection as if it were a light thing. Never cease to pray for him, and speak to him plainly yet meekly, for a wife may have put off such a word for a month or two, but what if the opportunity should slip? The marriage of the Lamb will supply every defect in earthly unions, and there you shall be fully satisfied. I have noted your request, and will join my prayers with yours.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
