While the desire for a lawn mower may seem like a small matter, we know that our Heavenly Father cares about every detail of our lives, including the tools we need to care for the homes and properties He has entrusted to us.

First, we want to acknowledge that all things belong to God, and we are merely stewards of what He has given us. As we pray for wisdom in this purchase, we ask that You, Lord, would guide the decision-making process. Give discernment to choose not just what is most appealing or convenient, but what is truly best for the work You have set before this individual. Help them to seek Your will in this matter, trusting that You will provide what is needed in Your perfect timing.

We also lift up the heart behind this request. May this purchase not be driven by greed, envy, or a desire for excess, but rather by a genuine need to maintain what God has provided. Let this be an opportunity to practice contentment, gratitude, and trust in Your provision. If there is any hesitation or uncertainty, we ask that You would make Your will clear, whether that means moving forward with this purchase or waiting for a different solution.

Lord, we pray for financial wisdom as well. If this purchase is in alignment with Your will, we ask that You would open the doors for it to be obtained in a way that honors You, whether through provision, a good deal, or even an unexpected blessing. If it is not the right time, we ask that You would close the doors gently and provide peace in waiting.

Finally, we rebuke any spirit of anxiety or impatience in this matter. Let this individual rest in the knowledge that You are their Provider (Philippians 4:19) and that You will equip them for every good work (2 Timothy 3:17). May this process be a reminder of Your faithfulness and a testimony to others of Your care.

Heavenly Father, we commit this request to You, trusting that You hear us and will answer according to Your perfect will. Your request for prayer over a lawn mower is not too small a matter to bring before the Throne of Grace, for a faithful steward counts nothing as his own, all is his Master’s. Yet let this purchase be weighed in the balances of wisdom. The world’s wisdom, which one age exalts and the next laughs to scorn, will urge you toward that which glitters and promises ease. But the path of the truly wise leads another way.

Ask yourself: what is the best mower? Not the costliest, nor the one admired by neighbors, but that which serves your need with honest labor, wastes no provision, and lets you work heartily as unto the Lord. Idling over catalogues or trifling with features can mar stewardship as surely as misusing a pulpit. I pray you will seek that decision which comes from prayerful submission to God’s will, not from the current of the age.

And yet, while you seek the best mower for your needs, I must press a weightier matter: have you decided for Christ, the wisdom of God? Many are anxious about lawns and brick-making, yet make light of the King’s Son. Beware lest you gain the mower and lose your soul. Look to Jesus, who is made unto us wisdom, and then, with a clear decision, trust Him for all lesser things.

You ask prayer that you may purchase the best lawn mower for your needs. But consider first what your true need is, and whether this request rises from necessity or from the lust of the flesh. The Apostle does not forbid us to make provision for the body, he even bids Timothy use a little wine for his stomach’s sake, but he charges us not to make provision for the flesh to fulfill its lusts. There is a great gulf between caring for what is needful and kindling a furnace of wanton desire. If you seek a mower simply to keep your grounds in decent order, that is no sin. But if your heart is set upon the finest, the most admired, the machine that surpasses your neighbor’s, then you clothe pride and covetousness in the name of prudence, and your prayer becomes a petition for fuel for the fire.

All such goods belong to this passing world, and the wisdom that prizes them so highly is folly. The show of having the best has no power against the indulgence of the flesh, and soon the mower will rust and be forgotten, while your soul endures forever. Why then pour anxious prayer into a fleeting purchase, when you might rather pray for contentment with what God provides, and for the wisdom to use all earthly things as a faithful steward for the common advantage? Let your request be rather this: “Lord, grant me prudence to obtain what is sufficient, detachment from the love of money, and a heart fixed upon the treasure that moth and rust cannot destroy.” If you do this, then whether you buy a simple mower or a modest one, you will have peace. For the best tool is not the one that shines brightest, but the one that serves its purpose without enslaving your soul.
