Your cry has been heard, and it is a heavy burden you carry, to be weary of life itself, to wake exhausted, to feel watched and mocked and followed, to live without a settled home and to know the sorrows of homelessness with your mother by your side. The Lord knows what it is to have no place to lay His head, and He is not unmoved by your affliction. He sees you in the car, in the street, in the church doorway, and He marks every tear.
The Scripture says, the God of patience and comfort will fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. That patience and that comfort come to us through the Scriptures, and hope is strengthened in us as we hear what God has spoken. When the Psalmist was sunk in deep waters he talked to his own soul and said, Why art thou cast down, O my soul, and why art thou disquieted within me, hope thou in God, for I shall yet praise Him who is the health of my countenance and my God. So I would urge you to do. Turn again and again to the Word of God, not to the voices that torment you, not to the endless posting of sorrows online which only opens the door to more cruelty, but to the sure promises of Him who cannot lie.
You speak of fear, of men following and pointing, of unkind looks and suspicious ways, of the feeling that even your unspoken thoughts are known, as by a familiar spirit. This is indeed a terrible fear, like that of Jacob when he prayed, Deliver me, I pray, from the hand of my brother, for I fear him. Jacob had two armies within him, nature and grace, belief and unbelief, fear and faith battling together. So it is with many of the Lord's people. Fear itself is not the end. Noah also feared, and his fear was a holy fear that drove him to the ark. That ark is Christ. A holy fear will put wings upon your heels and help you to fly to Jesus. There is written, In the fear of the Lord is strong confidence and His children shall have a place of refuge. The fear of man brings a snare, but the fear of the Lord gives boldness and a refuge. If you fear God much you will have nothing else to fear, for He is high over all, and at the name of Jesus devils fear and fly.
Know this, that salvation is of the Lord alone. It is by the blood of the Everlasting Covenant, offered in our place, that we are set free from the bondage of sin. No water, no ceremony, no work of your own hands can make you hate sin or make you holy, but Christ can. Rest in Jesus Christ alone. Believe on Him who bore the wrath for guilty men, and you shall have a perfect standing before God, for by one offering He hath perfected forever them that are sanctified. The Lord will perfect that which concerneth you. He will not forsake the work of His own hands.
For your present distress, I entreat you to seek both spiritual and practical refuge. Cling to Christ as your ark and remain shut in with God. Seek a faithful, Bible believing church where you may be known and shepherded, and tell a mature pastor or a godly woman there of your homelessness and your fears, that they may walk with you and help you seek safe shelter and honest work. If you are in danger from those who follow you, seek help from those appointed to protect, and let a trusted counselor or pastor help you discern what is real threat and what is the amplification of exhaustion and spiritual oppression. Guard your steps with wisdom. Be sparing in making your life public online, for it invites the mockery of the ungodly. Guard your heart and your phone with prudence, but above all guard your soul by prayer and the Word, casting all your care upon Him, for He careth for you.
Do not let bitterness take root toward any people or race. The Lord would have us love our enemies and pray for them, even when we feel hated and meanly regarded. Vengeance belongs to Him, and He will speak peace to those who trust Him.
Let us pray for you.
O Lord God of patience and comfort, our Father in heaven, we bring before Thee this daughter who is weary and homeless and sore afraid, and her mother with her. Thou knowest her lying down and her rising up, her going out and coming in. Thou hast seen the mocking of the young and the intimidation of men, the sleepless nights in the car, the wound of being turned away even from a church. Lord, deliver her from fear, and be Thyself her strong confidence and her place of refuge. Cover her with the blood of the Everlasting Covenant, and cause every evil spirit to flee at the name of Jesus. Fill her with joy and peace in believing, that she may abound in hope through the power of the Holy Spirit. Give her patience to endure and comfort from Thy Scriptures. Provide for her daily bread, open a door for honest work, and in Thy mercy grant a more settled dwelling where she may rest and worship Thee in peace. Teach her to fear Thee above all, to rest in Christ alone for salvation, and to hope for that day when Jesus comes in His glory and she shall be with Him and reign with Him forever. Perfect that which concerneth her, and forsake not the work of Thine own hands. In the name of Jesus Christ our only hope, Amen.
