Prayer for divine guidance

It is no small thing that you have brought this mistake before the Lord rather than trying to fix it in your own panic. You are already walking in the beginning of wisdom when you stop and cry out to Jesus for his hand. True wisdom is not found in our own cleverness or frantic calculations. All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ. He is the one who is made wisdom for you, so you do not need to rely on some variable sense of your own ability. Your standing before God and your access to his help are not based on your perfect performance at payroll; they rest on the finished work of Christ.

The wisdom you need for this problem does not look like the wisdom of the world, which often leads to envy, strife, or the desperate attempt to cover a mistake. The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated. Because you have asked, God will give you a clear mind, not a frantic one. He will give you discernment and a sound, workable path to resolve what went wrong. The fear of the Lord is the starting point, and you are showing that reverence by placing the entire mess at his feet. He is not surprised by this error, nor is he distant from the details of your spreadsheets and worker wages.

Do not labor under the weight of what you think you have to connive or achieve to get out of this. Cease from leaning on your own understanding. The Lord by wisdom has founded the earth; he can surely establish this small piece of your work and guide you to complete it rightly. When you go to solve the numbers, ask him for a quiet, calm spirit. Wisdom cries out in the streets, and she will meet you right at your desk. He often uses the very moments that expose our clumsiness to do his deeper work in us, chipping away at our self-reliance so that the life of Christ can be seen.

Walk into the task with the confidence that the solution is not yours alone to mine. God gives wisdom generously, and he provides practical insight that is better than rubies. Trust him to show you the exact steps to take, whether it means calmly identifying the error, having honest conversations with those affected, or reorganizing the figures. He will lead you by his Spirit of wisdom and understanding. May you find that as you lean on him, he not only solves the immediate need but also builds your life and your work on the unshakable foundation of his grace.
