Prayer for comfort

Thank you for bringing this burden before the Lord and for showing such care for this grieving family. We join you in prayer for them in this time of deep sorrow.

We know that grief over the loss of a loved one is a grievous wound, and words can feel small in the face of it. Yet our God is the Father of mercies and the God of all comfort, who draws near to the brokenhearted. We pray that He will surround this family with His presence, grant them His peace that passes all understanding to guard their hearts and minds in Christ Jesus, and give them strength for each day.

We also pray that they would find comfort in the promises of His Word. Scripture is like a chest of medicines for the soul in times of loss and bereavement. In it we are reminded that for those who are in Christ, death is not the end, and that we do not grieve as those who have no hope. According to the promise of life which is in Jesus Christ, we have hope of resurrection and of being ever with the Lord, where grief and mourning will flee away. May this hope sustain this family and may they know that all things remain in the Lord's sovereign and loving control.

We pray together: Father, we lift up the family of this coworker who has passed away. Comfort them in their sorrow, uphold them with Your love and guidance, and bring them peace and even acceptance as they entrust their loved one and their own lives to Your care. Draw each heart to Yourself through Jesus Christ, in whose precious name we find our only hope and salvation. Amen.
