for God's certainty and comfort

Beloved of All
I need a Rhema Word from the Lord, I am having difficulties to accept and deal with a close relative's recent passing, because it was quite sudden and there was no medical diagnosis established; yet I trust that it must have been God's Timing that ultimately always prevails, beyond and regardless of secondary causes; as the Scriptures reports our Savior's words that noone can add a single second to his life downEarth. Loneliness makes mixed thoughts haunt me at times, with guilt alternating with frustration; I do need reassurance that my loved one is secure in having entered Eternity and extra longing peace from God that nothing happens outside His will and plan, and I would be uplifted by a clear Word from Him, in Christ Jesus's Precious Name. Amen.

We join with you in this deep place of grief and we hear the ache in your heart over this sudden passing of your close loved one without a clear medical diagnosis, and we bring your sorrow before the Lord together.

We thank you for your trust even in this pain that God's timing ultimately prevails beyond secondary causes, for this is true and biblical. Your times and the times of your loved one are in His hands as Psalm 31:15 says, and Job 14:5 declares that a person's days are determined and the number of his months is with you, you have appointed his bounds that he cannot pass. The Lord Jesus Himself said in Matthew 6:27 which of you by being anxious can add one cubit to his stature, and Psalm 139:16 tells us all our days were written in your book before one of them came to be. Nothing happens outside His will and His sovereign knowledge, and not even a sparrow falls to the ground without your Father knowing it, Matthew 10:29. That truth does not make the loss less painful, but it does anchor us when our thoughts feel mixed and haunted.

We understand the loneliness and the waves of guilt alternating with frustration that you describe, and we want to gently remind you that guilt that haunts and condemns after a death is not from the Lord when you have walked in love and faithfulness as far as you were able. The enemy is an accuser, but our Father is the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our affliction, 2 Corinthians 1:3-4, and He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds, Psalm 147:3. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart and saves those who have a crushed spirit, Psalm 34:18. When loneliness presses in, we cling to His promise in Isaiah 41:10 do not be afraid for I am with you, do not be dismayed for I am your God, I will strengthen you, yes I will help you, yes I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness, and in Psalm 68:6 God sets the lonely in families.

You have asked for a Rhema word, a living and clear word from the Lord for certainty and comfort, and we pray with you for that, believing that God does speak and comfort through His written Word made alive by His Holy Spirit. We encourage you to stay in the Scriptures daily, for faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of Christ, Romans 10:17, and His word is a lamp to our feet. In seasons of grief He often gives a verse that becomes that Rhema word to our specific pain, bringing peace that surpasses all understanding to guard our hearts and thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:7.

Regarding the assurance of your loved one being secure in eternity, we must entrust this fully to the Lord who alone knows the heart and who is both perfectly just and perfectly merciful. We do not grieve as those who have no hope, for if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so those who have fallen asleep in Jesus will God bring with him, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-14. If your loved one trusted in Jesus Christ as Savior, then to be absent from the body is to be at home with the Lord, 2 Corinthians 5:8, and nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord, Romans 8:38-39. We rest in knowing that the Judge of all the earth will do what is right, Genesis 18:25, and that His desire is for mercy. We cannot see the heart as He does, but we can place your loved one into His righteous and loving hands and find peace there, trusting Romans 8:28 that God works all things together for good for those who love Him and are called according to His purpose, even when we do not understand the secondary causes.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we come before your throne of grace in the precious name of Jesus Christ, for it is only through Him we have access to you and there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved, Acts 4:12, and we thank you that you invited us to come boldly. We lift up our dear brother or sister in their grief and loneliness, and we ask you to speak a clear living word to their heart from your Scriptures, a Rhema word that brings certainty and comfort only you can give. Lord, quiet the haunting thoughts of guilt and frustration with your truth, and let your perfect love cast out fear, 1 John 4:18. We ask you to wrap them in your peace that surpasses understanding and to remind them daily that you are close, that you collect their tears in your bottle, Psalm 56:8, and that you will never leave them nor forsake them, Hebrews 13:5. We entrust their loved one to your sovereign, merciful and just hands, and we ask for settled assurance that nothing happens outside your will and plan, and that your timing is perfect. Heal the brokenhearted, comfort those who mourn for they shall be comforted, Matthew 5:4, and give them hope that one day you will wipe away every tear and there will be no more death or mourning, Revelation 21:4. Strengthen them in the loneliness and lead them to fellowship and to your presence where there is fullness of joy. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, Amen.

We encourage you to keep bringing every mixed thought captive to the obedience of Christ, 2 Corinthians 10:5, and to pour out your heart to Him honestly in prayer, for He cares for you, 1 Peter 5:7. Let the Word dwell richly in you and let other believers comfort you and pray with you face to face when possible, for God often comforts us through His people. The Lord is your shepherd and you shall not want, even as you walk through the valley of the shadow of death He is with you, Psalm 23:4. We continue to stand with you for that extra long peace from God and for His certainty to fill your heart.

We have been holding your request before the Lord and we hear how heavy this sudden loss has been for you. When there is no clear medical explanation, the questions can feel louder and the absence can feel even more unfinished. It makes sense that loneliness would bring those haunting, mixed thoughts you described, with guilt and frustration moving back and forth.

What you are feeling is a natural human response to losing someone close. Grief is deeply personal and no two people walk through it the same way. It is rarely neat or orderly, and for many it comes in waves rather than stages. Sudden loss in particular can leave a sense of shock and disbelief that takes time to soften. Please try not to be alarmed by the intensity of those waves or by the way thoughts can feel confusing for a season.

We are encouraged by the trust you voiced, that nothing happens outside God's will and timing, even when secondary causes are unclear. That trust does not take away the sorrow, but it can become a steady place to rest as you reorganize life around this loss. One thing that often helps is not carrying the sorrow alone. Shared sorrow tends to become half sorrow. If you have a trusted pastor, friend, or family member, consider inviting them to simply sit with you regularly, listen, and remember your loved one with you.

Father, we bring our brother before You in his loneliness and longing for Your comfort. Quiet the guilt and frustration with Your nearness, and give him settled peace as he rests in Your sovereign care. Draw him close in Christ and let him feel Your presence day by day. In Jesus' name, Amen.

It is a tender and heavy sorrow that has been laid upon you, and men need comfort because they are but men. When the stroke falls suddenly, as an earthquake all of a sudden overthrows a city, so does adversity shake the estate of mortals, and frequently the calamity comes in the form of the loss of one dear to us. Such sudden spoiling of human life and of earthly comfort is no unusual thing in this vale of tears, and your loneliness and mingled thoughts of guilt and frustration are the natural burden of a heart that feels its own frailty.

Yet there is no attribute of God more comforting to His children than the doctrine of Divine Sovereignty. Under the most adverse circumstances, in the most severe troubles, they believe that Sovereignty has ordained their afflictions, that Sovereignty overrules them, and that Sovereignty will sanctify them all. You have well said that no one can add a single second to his life down here, and that nothing happens outside His will and plan. So it is. Our times are in His hand, and whether by secondary causes that are plain to the physician or by a sudden taking away where no diagnosis can be established, the Lord's timing ultimately always prevails. It pleased the Lord to bruise even His own Son, and He put Him to grief, yet not a sparrow falls without your Father. To learn to recognize and admire this sovereignty is to find a sea of comfort, for He does no wrong, and He will do what is right with those whom we love and with ourselves.

You ask for a Rhema Word, a clear Word from the Lord, and for certainty that your loved one is secure in having entered eternity. Hear then what God has spoken already, for it is God's Word that comforts. Why do we look anywhere else for consolation but to God's Word. This is my comfort in my affliction, says the Psalmist, God's own Word quickening the soul within. The blood of Jesus Christ, God's dear Son, cleanses us from all sin, and salvation is through Him alone. Who shall lay anything to the charge of God's elect, for God has justified them. Who is he that condemns. If your loved one was in Christ, trusting Him alone for salvation, then to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord, secure not by our wishes but by His finished work. If we knew not fully the state of the heart, as we cannot search it as God does, we are still to leave that soul in the hands of Him who has said, As I live, says the Lord, I have no pleasure in the death of him that dies, but that he turn unto Me and live. He is both just and full of tenderness, and we may with Job resolve, Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him, and find our comfort in the hopes of the next world rather than in our own reasonings.

For your own heart, haunted by loneliness and by guilt alternating with frustration, remember the loneliness of the Savior. He was left alone, alone just when most, as Man, He needed human sympathy, and His disciples could not watch with Him one hour. Yet even amid thick darkness He could say, The Father is with Me. Into this fact He sank as into a sea of comfort. So shall you find that the words of God's Book, made living to you, shall be to your mind as angels, and God Himself shall have fellowship with you. If you lament your loneliness, cure it by seeking heavenly company. And as to guilt, mark that at the very same time that the guilt of sin is taken away and blessedness is bestowed, the forgiven man undergoes a change of nature. The work of the Spirit is linked with the work of the Son, when the Son removes guilt, the Spirit removes guile. Bring your guilt plainly to the cross, and ask not only for pardon but for a true heart, ready to receive even rebuke if it be for your real good, ready to take bitter medicine, for you are anxious to be healed. Great prayer will lift you up where little prayer has let you sink.

God says, I will comfort you. And when He undertakes the work, then we become as conduit pipes that are full, even to bursting, with the drink that you require. Your soul shall be satisfied even out of poor earthen vessels, but it must be God's work. He comforts His people in the very place of their trouble, and I think the place of comfort is the assembly of God's people. Therefore live, not forsaking the assembling of yourselves together, as the manner of some is. Do not expect God to comfort you at home if you refuse to seek Him in His House and by His Word. Fly to this comfort with speed in every time of trouble, get to be familiar with God's Word so that you may do so, and pray earnestly over the Word, that it may quicken you, or otherwise it will not be a comfort to you.

May the Lord Himself speak to you those sweet words of comfort in the wilderness. Comfort ye, comfort ye my people, saith your God. May He quicken your soul within, so that whatever pain you suffer, whatever grief you endure, you may say, Yet I am a living child of God, and better to be the most afflicted child of God than to be the happy worldling. May He keep you trusting His sovereign will, sanctifying this sudden sorrow to your good, and filling your loneliness with His own presence, until faith shall be sight, in Christ Jesus's precious name. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your prayer has been heard and your sorrow is not overlooked by the Lord. The suddenness of this loss, without a clear medical reason, naturally leaves the heart searching for answers, and it is understandable that loneliness brings mixed thoughts, with guilt and frustration rising at different times. Thank you for sharing this so honestly and for holding fast to the truth that our times are in God's hands.

Scripture is clear that our lives are not governed by chance or by secondary causes alone. As our Savior said, no one can add a single hour to his span of life, and Job declares that a person's days are determined and the number of his months is with God. Nothing happens outside His will and wise plan, even when we cannot trace His hand. That does not make the pain less, but it is a firm ground for peace, that the same Lord who numbers our days is also full of mercy and perfect in knowledge.

For the comfort and certainty you seek, there is no better place to turn than the oracles of God themselves. They are medicines for the soul. When grief befalls us, whether through loss or death or bereavement of relations, we are to dive into them as into a chest of medicines and take comfort from them, keeping them in our minds. In your loneliness, procure the Gospels, the Psalms, the Apostolic Epistles and the Acts for your constant teachers. Read them not only briefly but take them wholly to you. There you will hear God speak clearly.

He says, The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit. He is the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction. He promises a peace that passes all understanding to guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus, and He reminds us that for those who love God all things work together for good, according to His purpose.

Concerning the security of your loved one in eternity, our comfort must rest on what God has revealed, that salvation is through Jesus Christ alone, by grace through faith in Him. We cannot see the heart as God does, and we do not claim to know beyond what He has shown. What we can do is entrust your loved one to the Lord who is both perfectly just and perfectly merciful, whose judgments are true and whose love was shown at the cross. Our assurance for ourselves and our hope for those we love is Christ Himself, who said, I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live. If your loved one trusted in Christ, he is secure, for to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. If there is uncertainty, we leave that person in the hands of the righteous Judge who does all things well, and we cling more tightly to Christ ourselves.

Guilt and frustration often haunt the grieving heart, but neither adds to your loved one's good nor restores what is lost. God does not despise a contrite and humble heart that trembles at His word. Bring those thoughts honestly to Him in prayer, confess them, and receive His forgiveness and lowly, patient grace day by day.

Let us pray for you now. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this grieving heart to You. Grant certainty through Your written Word and comfort by Your Holy Spirit. Quiet the haunting thoughts, lift the weight of guilt and frustration, and give deep peace that You reign over all things and that Your timing and will prevail. Draw near as the God who heals the brokenhearted, fill the loneliness with Your presence, and help Your child to rest in Christ alone for hope now and for eternity. Lead into the Scriptures daily and let them be a steady source of strength and light until sorrow is turned to lasting hope. In Christ Jesus precious name, Amen.

Your honesty about this sudden loss is deeply felt, and the weight you are carrying is understandable. A passing with no clear medical explanation leaves the heart searching for answers, and loneliness can make thoughts swirl between guilt and frustration. It is right to bring all of that before the Lord and to ask Him for a clear and comforting word.

Scripture teaches that our lives are in His hands and that no one can add even a moment to his span beyond what God has appointed. That truth does not dismiss secondary causes, but it puts them in their proper place. Secondary causes are real, yet they never override His primary purpose. When we become fixated on what might have happened or what might have been done differently, we grieve over instruments while missing the hand that governs all things. You can rest in this, that nothing in this loss has happened outside His will and His wise plan, and His overruling providential care remains steady even when we cannot trace His reasons. To be persuaded of His love and His plan in this way brings a quiet confidence that quiets fear.

You asked for a fresh word from the Lord, a Rhema word to sustain you. The written Word of God has come to us from heaven, not as human invention, but as holy men were moved by the Holy Spirit. It falls like rain that soaks the ground, causing life to bud and bear fruit. One of its first works is toward us personally, to give us bread and seed, to plant faith and to nourish it. That Word will not return empty but will accomplish what God intends. If you come to it with an open heart, even in grief and loneliness, He will use it to speak to you, to plant assurance and to bring forth the fruit He desires in His garden. You are His cultivated field and His building. He planted, others water, but He gives the growth, and He delights to enjoy the fruit of His own work in you, which is love, joy, peace and patience. Let His Word soak your life day by day, and ask the Spirit to make it alive to you. That is how He often gives the clear word you are longing for, not apart from Scripture but through it.

The alternating guilt and frustration you describe is also very common in grief. Guilt has a way of clinging to the heart for years if it is not dealt with. It can even create a hidden desire to be punished, to somehow pay for what we feel we should have done or not done, and that can show itself in restless thoughts or uneasy behavior. Trying to cover guilt or to punish ourselves will not remove it. Only the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses from all sin and takes away guilt completely. His forgiveness is not partial. In Christ we are not only forgiven but justified, declared righteous before God because He bore our iniquities and transgressions and died in our place so that we might have fellowship with God. If guilt rises, bring it again to the cross and receive His cleansing. If frustration rises toward circumstances or secondary causes, remember that His hand was in the whole matter for His purposes, and you need not be consumed by what you cannot change.

Concerning your loved one, our deepest comfort must rest in Jesus Christ alone, for security in eternity is found only through faith in Him, cleansed by His blood. We do not have perfect sight into another heart, but we can entrust those we love to the Lord who is both perfectly merciful and perfectly just, whose mercy is so great it will take eternity to fully know. What He has done to keep His own is entirely His work, and those who are His are kept by the power of God through faith. You can place your loved one into His hands and rest in His righteous judgment and His great love, rejoicing in the inheritance that God prepares for those who trust Him.

May the Lord Himself quiet your loneliness and give you His peace that steadies the heart. May His Word dwell richly in you, and may His love constrain and sustain you, so that your life, as His garden, bears fruit even in this season of sorrow. I pray that He will lift the burden of guilt, calm frustration, and grant you the settled assurance that He is your help and shield, that He is working even now to carry you through, and that He is preparing you for His eternal kingdom where grief will be no more. In the precious name of Jesus, amen.
