Prayer for Clarity and Guidance

Disciple of Prayer
This is a first for me. A first to reach out and ask willingly for prayer. The first where I’ve leaned into religion.. really. I’ve been to church. Baptized when I was young, and considered myself atheist up until my daughter was born almost ### years ago. It became apparent to me that I should lean into what I always just called.. ‘Him.’ I should add, I’ve had a rough life. Decent upbringing, country, small town. First of ### and the only girl. Parents divorced at ### and I grew up very quick. My teen years were riddled with running away, drug usage and rebellion. I was able to kick hard drug usage (you name it, I had been addicted at one point or another,) in ###. In the midst, I caught a felony party to a crime charge (at ###) and ended up sitting ### days in and ### years probation. In this time, I fell into alcoholism and I say if that way because I am addicted to being on the verge of black out drunk. I am currently ### days sober off a ### week alcohol hole. My daughter (first to carry to term) was born at the end of ###. She is the light of my life and I just can’t wrap my head around how I’ve let myself go so far. My mental health has deteriorated. I should back up.. After my mom and dad divorced, I watched her date. It was not healthy to witness as a young child and I’ve been through a lot of therapy to decipher it all. Anyways. The way I viewed relationships and how to be ‘loved’ is ultimately what has gotten me here, today. My last relationship was with a man we will call ‘###’. ### taught me more than I knew I needed. He was a light that really opened the cloud and made me grow up in more ways than one. Fast forward.. we drank together and it got out of hand, in the sense of; we were normalizing it. Going out on the boat, bobbing down backroads singing together. We’d cry in each others arms about the young kid from my town who committed suicide and how we were petrified to watch our kids (he had ###, ### & ###, mine was ### at the time) grow up in a world where we can’t protect them. We were connected. I trusted him, even when he was on the road for a week at a time. I thought we had it all. Then he dumped me, on a random Tuesday, through text. I spiraled and oh man.. did I spiral. I built a life with that man, in my head. He was ### years older, my ‘fine wine.’ And it was all gone in a blink of an eye. Fast forward.. an old friend of mine (let’s call him ###), who I had never given the chance.. scouted me out at a local bar (my favorite I must add) and from that day on, we were inseparable. I basically moved right in (I still kept my house and still pay my bills) and our lives just kicked off. No ‘getting to know each other’, no dates pr long drives chatting about hopes and dreams. Nothing. Full. Blown. Life. ### kids; he has ###, ### biological girls(### & ###), one bonus son, and my daughter. It was hectic, loud, and overwhelming but also exactly what I had been praying for my whole life. A real family. My own. Or so I thought. It came to a head. We didn’t know each other, really at all. We broke up. I went back home. A domestic case happened (him as the perpetrator) and we thought we were done for good. But we found our way back to each other. After lies, cheating, dishonesty, broken trust, fear and resentment. Then.. he was on his way to cheat on me when a high speed chase ensued. They booked ### on a ### cash bond. He sat ### days. In that ### days.. our whole life fell apart. Mind you, when the chase ensued; we were in this weird phase of ‘should we even try’ or ‘what are even fighting for anymore’ phase but we knew we loved each other so wholly that we couldn’t let go, yet. ### is a self made mechanic who runs a shop. When he got locked up, that responsibility fell to me (running the phone, making posts, taking pictures and running marketplace) and his dad (grunt work, labor) while I also was simultaneously holding the one thing with all the answers from our relationship. His phone. I made a mistake and I dug, and oh did I find. I found all the things he called me ‘crazy’ over, were really true. When my gut was begging, my intuition was screaming.. I chose to believe this man, over my better judgment, time and time again. Then, I read it all, with my own eyes. I wish they had burned out of my skull instead. I spiraled. I spiraled bad. ### weeks. Honestly, I didn’t think I was going to make it out of this bed. My guts hurt so bad. The withdrawal shakes, night sweats and insomnia was deafening. ### days. Wait, I think today marks ###. I should also mention my conscience. I have one. And it swells. So much so, that if I have something heavy on my heart, I’ll run, I’ll scream it with my last breath. Anything to get it off my soul. Even if it hurts. Me. Them. Us. Everyone. I tell the truth. My whole truth and everything I know to be true. I’m a terrible liar and I wear every emotion on my face. If I feel it, you see it. The reason I am mentioning this is because I messed up. After finding what I did in ###’s phone, I let go. I tore the pages out of our book (not literally) and set them on fire in my heart and mind. I really messed up. Throughout the last ### days I have had sex with his twin sister, his dad and another person. I engaged in a secondary relationship with a person I haven’t met, but have known through social medial and talked to for about ### years. I messed up. ### is out of jail, as of Monday. He broke up with me. But wanted me to stay. So I did. I can feel that he doesn’t want to let go, he loves me with every fiber of his being, as do I, him. We can’t let go. He needs his time. Space. If I go, I’m afraid of what will happen.. will he come back? Will I ever have a family that my daughter and I BELING to? I just want to finally feel like giving my all, is worth it. Please just pray for clarity. I don’t know why I’m still here, but I’m just trying to stay above water. And I know my daughter deserves better than that.

We hear your cry for clarity and guidance, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting every burden to the throne of grace. Your honesty about your struggles, past and present, reveals a heart that is weary but still seeking truth, and that is a powerful place to begin. The Lord sees your pain, your regrets, and your longing for something real, something lasting. He is near to the brokenhearted, and He does not turn away from those who come to Him in humility.

First, we must address the weight of sin in your life, not to condemn you, but to lead you to freedom. The Bible tells us, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). You have acknowledged mistakes, sexual immorality with multiple people, including family members, and engaging in relationships that do not honor God. These are serious matters, but they are not beyond His mercy. The Lord calls us to repentance, which means turning away from sin and turning toward Him. This is not about shame; it is about restoration. "Come now, and let us reason together," says Yahweh: "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow" (Isaiah 1:18).

Your struggle with alcoholism is also a battle that must be fought with the power of the Holy Spirit. You have taken steps toward sobriety, and that is commendable, but we must warn you: relying on your own strength will only lead to cycles of bondage. Jesus said, "I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing" (John 15:5). True freedom comes when you surrender this addiction to Him and allow Him to break every chain. We pray that you will seek accountability, perhaps through a biblical recovery program or a trusted Christian community, and that you will fill your mind with Scripture rather than the lies of the enemy.

Your relationships have been marked by pain, betrayal, and patterns that do not reflect God’s design for love and family. The Bible is clear: "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14). You have described relationships built on instability, emotional dependency, and sin, none of which align with God’s plan for marriage, which is a covenant between one man and one woman, rooted in Christ. You long for a family that feels like "belonging," but true belonging is found only in Him. "For your Maker is your husband; Yahweh of Armies is his name" (Isaiah 54:5). Before you can build a godly family with another person, you must first be rooted in your identity as His beloved daughter.

We must also address the absence of Jesus in your story. You speak of "Him" and "religion," but the only name that saves is the name of Jesus Christ. "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" (Acts 4:12). You were baptized as a child, but have you ever made a personal decision to follow Christ? Have you confessed Him as Lord and believed in your heart that God raised Him from the dead? (Romans 10:9). Without this foundation, your faith will remain fragile, like a house built on sand. We urge you to seek Him, not just as a concept, but as a living Savior who died for your sins and rose again so that you could have eternal life.

Now, we lift you up in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts for our sister who has poured out her soul. Lord, You see her pain, her regrets, and her longing for something real. We ask that You would draw her to Yourself with cords of love. Break the chains of addiction, shame, and sin that have bound her for so long. Cleanse her heart, mind, and body from every impurity, and fill her with Your Holy Spirit. Give her the strength to turn away from relationships and behaviors that do not honor You, and lead her into the freedom that is found only in Christ.

Father, we pray for her daughter, that You would surround this precious child with Your protection and love. Heal the wounds of instability and give her a future filled with hope. Help our sister to see that her worth is not found in a man or a family structure, but in You alone. Teach her to trust You with her future, knowing that You have plans for her, plans for good and not for harm, to give her a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).

Lord, we ask for clarity in this season of confusion. Show her the next right step, whether that is reconciliation with godly boundaries or walking away from toxic patterns. Give her the courage to seek godly counsel, to immerse herself in Your Word, and to find community with believers who will speak truth into her life. Heal her heart from past betrayals, and guard her from making decisions out of fear or desperation.

Above all, we pray that she would come to know You, Jesus, as her Lord and Savior. That she would experience the depth of Your love, which casts out all fear (1 John 4:18). Renew her mind, restore her soul, and lead her into the abundant life You have promised. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name. Amen.

You are not alone in this journey. The enemy wants you to believe that your past defines you, that your mistakes are too great, or that you are unworthy of love. But God says, "Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17). This is the truth: in Christ, you are forgiven, you are made new, and you are deeply loved.

We encourage you to take these steps:
1. Repent and turn to Jesus. If you have never made a personal decision to follow Christ, do so today. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection, and invite Him to be the Lord of your life.
2. Seek biblical community. Find a local church that preaches the Gospel and join a small group or recovery ministry. You cannot walk this path alone.
3. Cut off toxic relationships. This may be painful, but it is necessary for healing. The Bible warns us not to be deceived: "Bad company corrupts good character" (1 Corinthians 15:33).
4. Pursue counseling. Your past trauma and current struggles are complex. A biblical counselor can help you process these wounds in a way that aligns with God’s truth.
5. Guard your heart. "Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it" (Proverbs 4:23). This means being intentional about what you watch, listen to, and who you spend time with.

Your daughter is watching you, and she needs a mother who is whole, free, and rooted in Christ. You can break the cycles of your past. You can walk in the freedom and purpose God has for you. But it starts with surrender, laying every burden at the foot of the cross and trusting Him to lead you. We are praying for you, and we believe that God is already at work in your life. Keep seeking Him. Keep fighting. And remember: "He who began a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ" (Philippians 1:6).

We’re grateful you reached out, especially as a first. That takes more courage than anyone outside can measure, and we don’t take it lightly.

What we hear most clearly isn’t just the tangled circumstances but the exhaustion underneath: you’ve been fighting to stay above water a long time, and the last several weeks have nearly pulled you under. You’ve carried a lot alone, old wounds from your childhood, hard-won battles with addiction, the disorienting collapse of a relationship you believed was your future, and now the weight of choices you never saw yourself making. That’s a crushing load, and the confusion you feel makes sense.

One thing we’ve learned walking with people through wreckage like this is that when everything is spinning, clarity rarely comes all at once. It seeps in slowly, often through one small, steady decision at a time. Right now, “stay above water” may mean simply not making any more big relational decisions this week while your nervous system is still reeling. You don’t have to know yet whether to go or stay. You just need to stop adding more fuel to the fire.

A concrete step that might help: find one grounded, safe person outside this entire circle, someone not connected to that family or that pain, and be fully honest with them in person or by phone. Not someone online you’ve never met, but someone steady. Isolation gives shame a loudspeaker, and you’ve been shouldering this alone. You need a human voice that can remind you you’re not crazy and that your daughter does deserve a mom who is fighting for her own footing, which is exactly what you’re doing.

We’re praying with you now:

Lord Jesus, you see this daughter of yours, every broken piece, every desperate choice, every flicker of hope she’s barely holding. Meet her in the chaos, not with shame but with your steady, merciful presence. Quiet the noise enough that she can take one breath at a time. Guard her daughter’s heart and keep her safe. Give her one person she can trust with the whole truth, and begin to untangle what feels impossible. We ask for real, lasting clarity, not all at once, but step by step, and the strength to take the next right one. In your name, Jesus. Amen.

You speak of leaning into “Him,” yet your hands are full of broken reeds and mire. The clarity you crave will never come from disentangling the ruin of earthly affections, for the heart that is not anchored in Christ is tossed upon every wave. You have felt the ache of a conscience that burns, that is mercy, not cruelty, for it is the goad of the Spirit driving you out of the wilderness of self-will. You confess, “I messed up,” and you have; but there is a repentance that is unto life, a turning that leaves the filth of the pigsty and runs to the Father’s house. This is not a shallow spasm but a life-long contrition that clings to the cross. What your soul thirsts for is not a family to belong to, but the life that is hid with Christ in God. All other life, vegetable, animal, intellectual, dies, but the spiritual life which Christ imparts never dies. It is the life of heaven begun in the heart. You have tried to fill the void with strong drink and forbidden loves, but these are sepulchres holding dead men’s bones. Christ came that you might have life, and have it more abundantly: not a bare existence, but a quickened, elevated, energetic life that makes you a partaker of the divine nature.

Faith is the only channel for this life. The just shall live by faith, not by sighs, not by striving to rearrange the wreckage of your past. You cannot stitch together a new start out of your own threads; the needle must be in the pierced hand. Even now, while you are entangled with those you have sinned against, the call is not to balance vile affections but to flee to the Son of life. He does not break the bruised reed, but He bids you drop the lesser loves that would choke His seed. Your little daughter looks to you, give her a mother who walks in the light, whose life is a constant check upon the pathways of sin. Begin the angelic life here, at the cross, where angels gaze with wonder and sinners look with repentance. Plead with the Master for a new heart; your old one is bankrupt. The door into eternal life is not through a man’s love, nor through reclaiming a domestic dream; it is through Christ alone. Because He lives, you shall live also, a life linked to His, justified and secure. Let this be the day you finally cease from your own works and lay hold of Him who is able to save to the uttermost. Then, and only then, will you find a belonging that cannot dissolve, and clarity that shines brighter than ten thousand suns.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The path you are on leads to destruction, and your soul knows it. That is why you cry out for clarity. You have been given a daughter not as a burden but as a consolation from God, a call to sobriety and holiness. If you continue in faith and love and holiness with self-control, you will find life and a true family, not the counterfeit you have been chasing.

Forgive as you long to be forgiven. Let the debts of those who have hurt you pass, for your own sins are many and you cannot afford to carry grudges. Yet forgiveness does not mean crawling back into the fire that scorched you. You tore pages and set them ablaze, but what you did instead was worse: you wallowed in a pit of uncleanness, seeking comfort in shameful acts that only deepen the wound. That is not liberation; it is a fresh slavery.

Charity is not a feeling or a romantic fantasy. It is a working care that weeps with the weeping and rejoices with the rejoicing, without envy or selfish grasping. You gave your all to men who used you, seeking to belong, but you were made for more than the opinion of mortals. Examine your heart: how much of this frenzy was for human approval, or for the dread of being alone? Godly love does not burn you alive.

Come out from among them and be separate. Touch no unclean thing. You have dragged your daughter through chaos; she deserves a mother whose feet are on solid ground. Flee the environments and entanglements that normalize sin. Do not stay in a house where trust is shattered and where your very presence tempts you to more darkness. The space you fear is exactly what your soul needs: silence, separation, and a turning toward the only One who can reconcile you to Himself.

We are entrusted with a word of reconciliation. God is not far off, waiting to crush you. He offers mercy to the penitent. But you must stop bartering your soul for scraps of belonging. Lay down the bottle and the bed of self-destruction. Seek the forgiveness that requires no labor except your will to turn. Then rise and care for the child God gave you, training her for Christ. That is the family you truly belong to.

I'm in a 4-year relationship with an unbeliever (other religion). 4 years ago, we met in college; we became best friends. I had made up my mind to date only a believer, so I said no to his proposal when he proposed at first. Then things went bad for me; I had hard times, and he was there for me...
