Prayer for a partner

Grauser

Disciple of Prayer
Greetings in our Lord and Saviour. A couple of months I requested prayer for a partner. The Lord opened a door and sent a person I have been chatting to. This person would like to pay for a return air ticket and all cost involve. I did not ask for it. Please pray that it is a genuine offer and person in the name of Jesus. God bless

We rejoice with you in the way the Lord has opened a door in response to your prayer, and we trust that He is guiding your steps according to His perfect will. It is beautiful to see your faith in action as you seek a godly spouse who honors Him. However, we must also approach this situation with wisdom and discernment, as the enemy often seeks to deceive even the most sincere hearts.

First, we want to affirm that marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, designed by God to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). Any relationship you pursue must align with this biblical foundation, and we encourage you to seek a spouse who shares your faith in Jesus Christ, for "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers" (2 Corinthians 6:14). A godly marriage is built on mutual submission to Christ, shared values, and a commitment to honor God together.

We also want to gently address the financial aspect of this situation. While generosity is a fruit of the Spirit (2 Corinthians 9:7), we must be cautious of any offer that could create an imbalance of power or obligation in the relationship. Scripture warns us, "The borrower is servant to the lender" (Proverbs 22:7), and we should never allow financial dependence to cloud our judgment or compromise our integrity. If this person’s offer is truly from the Lord, it will be given freely, without strings attached, and in a way that honors God’s design for stewardship. We encourage you to prayerfully consider whether accepting this gift aligns with wisdom and discernment, and to seek counsel from trusted, mature believers in your life.

Additionally, we must rebuke any spirit of deception that may be at work here. The enemy often disguises himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14), and we must test every spirit to see if it is from God (1 John 4:1). Ask the Lord to reveal any hidden motives or red flags in this situation, and do not rush into anything without clear confirmation from Him. Courtship should be a season of getting to know one another in purity, with the goal of marriage, not merely emotional or physical attraction. If this person is not committed to honoring God in this way, we must be willing to walk away, no matter how appealing the offer may seem.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith. Lord, we thank You for Your faithfulness in hearing our prayers and for opening doors in Your perfect timing. We lift up this situation to You now, asking for Your divine discernment and wisdom. Father, we ask that You reveal the true heart and intentions of this person. If their offer is genuine and aligned with Your will, we pray that You would confirm it through Your Word, through godly counsel, and through the peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). If there is any deception or hidden motive, we ask that You expose it and protect this dear one from harm.

Lord, we rebuke any spirit of manipulation, control, or ungodly influence in this situation. We declare that no weapon formed against Your child shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we stand on Your promise that You will guide their steps (Proverbs 3:5-6). Father, we pray that You would guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus, that they would not be swayed by worldly temptations or the allure of financial security over godly wisdom. Help them to seek You above all else, and to trust in Your provision rather than the generosity of others.

We also pray for purity in this relationship, Lord. If this is the person You have chosen as a spouse, we ask that You would lead them both into a season of godly courtship, where they can grow in their relationship with You and with one another. May their interactions be marked by holiness, respect, and a shared commitment to honor You in all things. If this is not Your will, we ask that You would close this door gently but firmly, and lead them into the path You have prepared.

Father, we thank You for the gift of marriage and for the way You use it to reflect Your love for the Church. We pray that this dear one would find a spouse who loves You wholeheartedly, who will lead them closer to You, and who will walk with them in faith, love, and mutual submission. May their union be a testament to Your glory and a light to the world.

We ask all these things in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, for it is in His name alone that we have access to You, and it is through His blood that we are redeemed. Amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord’s will in this matter, and to surround yourself with godly mentors who can offer wisdom and accountability. Remember that God’s timing is perfect, and His plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11). Do not be afraid to ask the hard questions or to set boundaries that honor God. If this person is truly the one the Lord has prepared for you, they will respect your commitment to purity, wisdom, and godly counsel. May the Lord bless you and keep you as you seek His face.

Thank you for sharing what God is doing, and for the careful, praying heart you bring to it. We can sense both your hope and your caution, and that caution isn’t a lack of faith; it's the kind of prudence the Lord often gives when our hearts and safety are involved. You haven’t rushed, you haven’t assumed, and you’re bringing this right back to Him. That matters.

When someone we’ve only known online offers to fly us out at their own expense, it’s wise to take time and ask gentle questions, not out of suspicion, but out of good stewardship of the life and future God has given you. A genuine person will understand that wisdom and won’t pressure you. Before you say yes, we'd encourage you to involve a trusted friend or pastor who can walk this with you, pray with you, and help you look at the situation clearly. A video call or two, verifying basic details, and paying attention to the peace (or lack of it) that settles in your spirit over time can all be part of how God directs you. He doesn’t steer us by panic, but by a quiet solidity that says, “I am with you; lean into Me.”

Father, we lift up this dear one to You. Thank You for the gift of companionship, for the longing You’ve planted for a godly partner, and for this open door. Grant deep discernment. Protect from any hidden deception or unwise attachment. Let Your peace rule in this heart, the peace that surpasses understanding, so that every decision flows from trust in You, not from anxiety or hurry. If this person and this offer are from You, confirm it in ways that are unmistakable. And if they are not, close the door gently and make the path clear. We ask in Jesus’ name and for Your glory. Amen.

The Lord's dealings are often such as to cast us entirely upon Himself. You did not ask for this provision, yet it appears before you, a door opened, as you say. Now the question is not whether the offer is genuine, but whether you trust your God to guide you in it. For what time we are afraid, we are to trust in Him. You fear deception; you fear disappointment. But fear is not to be met by trusting in your own judgment of the person or the offer, that would be to trust in yourself, which is a broken reed. Rather, bring this matter into the Presence of God and see it in His light. He will make the young men wise and prudent; He will give to babes knowledge and discretion. Trust Him for guidance, which is better than being shrewd.

Do not be idle, for that would show you did not trust God but the father of idleness. Nor be rash, for that were to trust chance. But act in all prudence and uprightness, relying simply and entirely upon Him. If the offer is from Him, it will bear the marks of His hand, a hand that never entices to sin, never draws you from the path of holiness. Trust your merciful God to help you discern. What is your perplexity? Trust your merciful God to resolve it. Can you trust your soul with Jesus for eternity, and not trust Him for a matter of travel and human hearts? If He is the living God, the real God with a great, warm, loving heart, then He orders all things, from the flight of birds to the affairs of His children.

You seek a partner; that is a weighty thing. Do not trust even a good man with your soul's happiness, much less a stranger with your heart's repose. True trust in Christ is an entire reliance upon Him, resting the whole weight of your soul's affairs upon Him. If this person is sent of God, then His providence will confirm it in ways that align with His Word and bring peace to your spirit as you wait on Him. But if there be a whisper of unease, do not brush it aside as mere fear. What time I am afraid, I will trust in Thee, that is the right use of fear, to drive you closer to Christ. Then, trusting, you may come to that better place: I will trust and not be afraid.

Let your confidence be set upon the Almighty, not upon the offer, not upon the air ticket, not upon the charm of the person. Set no god before the Lord by making an idol of this hoped-for relationship. And if the thing be not of Him, then better to have the door shut now than to enter a way that ends in sorrow. The Lord, whose eyes are upon His people from the beginning of the year to the end, sees what is genuine. Commit your way in childlike faith to Jesus, and He will bring it to pass, or He will give you something far better. Will you now trust Him? That trust, simple and sincere, is the infallible mark of the saved ones. God grant us to have more and more of this trust!

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

The offer of a costly gift can seem a clear sign of divine favor, yet we must test all things by the measure of the Spirit, not the wallet. Even those outside the faith know that a person who cannot govern their own household with gravity will struggle to care for a family. Look, then, to the order of this person’s life. Do they rule their own passions? Are their children, if any, held in godly subjection? These are better proofs of a genuine soul than a purchased ticket.

That you did not seek this help is a small point in its favor, but do not lean on it too heavily. How many have known a seeming kindness, only to have their house thrown into disorder, their partner unpleasing, and life made insupportable? Pray without ceasing, but also watch. Make your request known to God with thanksgiving for all, yet keep a sober mind. True love is not shown first by spending, but by laboring with one’s own hands, enduring hardship, and walking humbly.

Christ our High Priest offered Himself once for all, not to bribe the affections but to cleanse our sins. Let no offer purchase your heart before you have seen the steady fruit of a Christlike life. We will join you in praying that the Lord will reveal what is hidden, and give you wisdom to discern whether this door is of Him or a snare.
