Prayer for a job

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I've been dealing with unemployment since ### and it's hard. I go for all these interviews but usually don't hear back. I'm struggling with anxiety and stress over this situation.

We hear the weight of what you are carrying and we join with you in bringing this burden before the Lord. To face unemployment for so long and to keep going to interviews without hearing back is deeply discouraging, and it is understandable that anxiety and stress have grown in this season. We want you to know that God sees your diligence and He sees your struggle, and He cares for you.

Scripture reminds us to bring our anxieties directly to Him. Philippians 4:6-7 says, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. And 1 Peter 5:7 tells us to cast all your worries on him, because he cares for you. We also cling to the promise in Matthew 6:33, But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Our Heavenly Father knows your need for provision and He is faithful to provide. We also take comfort in Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Even when doors seem closed, God is still working for your good and He has a purpose in this waiting.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently share why His name is so essential. It is only through Jesus that we have access to God and it is only by His name that we are saved. John 14:6 says, Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says, There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. To know His peace and provision, we must first know Him as Savior, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, and trusting Him as Lord. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your faith in Jesus Christ and to call upon His name, for He will hear you and draw near to you.

We pray together for you now.

Father in heaven, we lift up our dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You know the length of this unemployment and the disappointment of each interview without an answer. You know the anxiety and stress that weighs on the heart. We ask You to pour out Your peace that surpasses understanding to guard this heart and mind in Christ Jesus. We cast this burden on You because You care for us, as Psalm 55:22 says, Cast your burden on Yahweh and he will sustain you. Lord, we ask for Your provision and Your open door. Commit your deeds to Yahweh, and your plans shall succeed as Proverbs 16:3 says, so we commit this job search to You. Guide the next steps, lead to the right opportunity where gifts can be used for Your glory, and where honest work can be done heartily as to You, as Colossians 3:23 teaches. Sustain daily needs, strengthen faith in the waiting, and help to seek Your Kingdom first, trusting that You will supply all that is needed. We pray this in the mighty and saving name of Jesus Christ, our hope and our provider. Amen.

We encourage you to keep committing your work to the Lord each day, to remain diligent and not grow weary while trusting His timing, for Galatians 6:9 reminds us that in due season we will reap if we do not give up. Use this time to seek Him in prayer and in His Word, to steward your time well, and to ask Him to direct your path. He is with you in this valley and He will sustain you.

We are really glad you reached out and told us honestly what this season has been like. Being out of work since last year and going through interview after interview without hearing back is exhausting, and it makes sense that anxiety and stress have built up around it.

It can help to give the search a little structure so it does not take over your whole day. One thing others have found steadying is to set a clear window for applications and follow ups, keep a simple list of where you have applied and when to follow up once, and then deliberately step away to rest, be with family, or serve somewhere you feel useful. A trusted person at church, a former coworker, or a local job center can also look over your resume or practice interview answers with you, which often eases some of that waiting.

If the worry is making sleep hard or weighing on you most days, please consider talking with your doctor or a counselor alongside prayer, just to have extra support.

We are praying for you and will keep praying.

Father, we lift our friend to You. You see the need for work and the weariness in this waiting. Give wisdom for each next step, peace in the uncertainty, and provision day by day. Open the right door in Your timing and keep hope alive. In Jesus name, amen.

Your trial has been long and the waiting wearies the heart, and you have done well to bring your anxiety and your need for daily bread before the Lord.

Scripture reminds us that anxiety itself unfits us to meet the difficulty, and does not hasten the provision. Our wisdom is not to feed that anxiety by telling it only to ourselves, but to cast it upon Him who cares for us. As the psalmist says, in the shadow of Your wings will I make my refuge until these calamities pass. There you may hide even now, while the door of employment seems closed and the interviews bear no fruit.

You are called, as Job was when he sat among the ashes, to say with childlike confidence, Though He slay me, yet will I trust in Him. Job did not charge God foolishly, though his losses were great, and in all this he sinned not. He learned not only to hear of God by the hearing of the ear, but to see Him more nearly, and to bow lowest before the throne while still drawing nearer. So let your approach be in humble trust, not in trust of your own feelings or in waiting for a blaze of joy before you believe, but in simply trusting the appointed Saviour at once. Only trust Him, only trust Him, only trust Him now. Trust Him as you sink and you shall swim. Trust Him as you feel yourself spent and you shall live.

Remember also that the Lord turned the captivity of Job when he prayed. Our longest sorrows have a close, and there is a bottom to the profoundest depths of our misery. The Lord who permitted the trial for His own wise ends is the same Lord who can open a way where there has been none, and who sustains you day by day.

We will pray for you. We ask the Lord to provide work suited for your hands, to open the right door in His time, to give you favour where you apply, and to grant you quietness of spirit while you wait. May He lift the weight of stress and anxiety, keep you from despair and from unbelieving speeches, and give you fresh strength as your bow renewed in your hand. May He let you know His love not after you have trusted, but in the very act of trusting, and keep you near to Christ who is worthy of all your confidence.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
