Prayer against enemies

We stand with you in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who has given us authority to resist the schemes of the enemy. It is clear you are seeking God’s justice and protection against those who seek to harm you, and we join you in this spiritual battle, knowing that our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places (Ephesians 6:12).

The Psalms you have been praying are indeed powerful, and we affirm their truth. Psalm 109 is a cry for God’s justice against those who speak evil and deceitfully against the righteous. David, the author of this psalm, did not take vengeance into his own hands but entrusted his cause to the Lord, who judges righteously. Psalm 35:1-9 is a plea for God to contend with those who contend against His people, and Joshua 7:25 reminds us that God does not tolerate sin or rebellion among His people, nor will He allow those who oppose His will to go unpunished. We take comfort in knowing that the Lord is a God of justice, and He will repay those who persecute His children (Romans 12:19).

However, we must also remember the words of our Savior, Jesus Christ, who taught us to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us (Matthew 5:44). This does not mean we ignore the harm they do or fail to seek God’s protection, but it does mean we surrender our desire for personal vengeance to Him. We are called to overcome evil with good (Romans 12:21), trusting that God’s justice will prevail in His perfect timing. Vengeance belongs to the Lord, and He will repay (Deuteronomy 32:35).

Let us pray together in the authority of Jesus’ name:

Heavenly Father, we come before You as Your children, redeemed by the blood of Jesus Christ. We lift up this situation to You, asking for Your divine protection and justice. Lord, You see the hearts of those who seek to harm Your servant, and You know their intentions. We ask that You would arise and defend the cause of the righteous, as You have promised in Your Word. Contend with those who contend against us, O Lord, and let their own devices be turned against them (Psalm 35:1-8).

Father, we also ask for Your mercy. While we stand against the works of darkness, we pray for those who oppose us. Soften their hearts, Lord, and turn them from their wicked ways. Let them see the error of their actions and come to repentance, that they may know You as their Savior and Lord. If it is Your will, bring them to a place of humility and restoration, for You desire that none should perish but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).

We declare that no weapon formed against us shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against us in judgment, we condemn in the name of Jesus (Isaiah 54:17). We put on the full armor of God—truth, righteousness, the gospel of peace, faith, salvation, and Your Word—so that we may stand firm against the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:13-17). We rebuke every spirit of hatred, division, and strife in Jesus’ name, and we command them to flee.

Lord, fill us with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Strengthen our hearts with Your love, and help us to walk in forgiveness, even as You have forgiven us. Give us the grace to love our enemies and to pray for those who persecute us, knowing that this is pleasing in Your sight.

We trust in You, O God, for You are our refuge and our fortress (Psalm 91:2). You are the righteous Judge, and we rest in the knowledge that You will vindicate Your children. We declare that the gates of hell shall not prevail against the church of Jesus Christ (Matthew 16:18), and we stand firm in the victory that is already ours through His death and resurrection.

In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to continue standing on God’s Word and trusting in His promises. Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9). Surround yourself with fellow believers who can pray with you and encourage you in your faith. Remember, the battle belongs to the Lord, and He will fight for you (Exodus 14:14). Keep your heart pure before Him, and He will direct your steps (Proverbs 3:5-6). If there is unconfessed sin in your life, repent and turn from it, for the Lord is near to those who call on Him in truth (Psalm 145:18). Walk in the light of His Word, and He will guide you into all truth (John 16:13).

We're here with you, standing strong in the name of Jesus. We've been reflecting on the words you've shared and the psalms you've been praying. They're powerful indeed, echoing the heart's cry for justice and protection. We're reminded of David's faith in Psalm 109, entrusting his cause to the Lord, and the plea in Psalm 35 for God to contend with those who contend against His people.

But we're also moved by Jesus' teachings to love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us. It's a tough balance, isn't it? We're called to seek justice, yes, but also to love mercy and walk humbly with our God (Micah 6:8). So, let's keep praying, asking God to trouble those who trouble us, but also interceding for their hearts to be softened and turned towards Him.

Let's declare together, "No weapon formed against us shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against us in judgment, we condemn in the name of Jesus" (Isaiah 54:17). Let's put on the full armor of God, stand firm, and trust that God will fight for us (Exodus 14:14).

Keep your heart pure, walk in the light of His Word, and He will guide you into all truth (John 16:13). Surround yourself with fellow believers, and don't grow weary in doing good (Galatians 6:9). The battle is the Lord's, and He will vindicate His children.

We're praying with you, in Jesus' mighty name. Amen.
