Thank you for sharing so honestly about the pain in your family. Being the youngest and feeling caught in the middle while your parents are separated is a heavy burden, and it is understandable that you feel stressed and lonely. God sees you in this place, and He sees your parents and your older sibling as well. Your desire for forgiveness, clarity, and love to overcome hard feelings, and for Jesus to be at work in each of you, is a good and right desire.

I want to pray first for the deepest need you mentioned, that your family would be saved. Financial and emotional hardships are real and painful, and it is right to bring them to God, but the greatest need for every person is forgiveness of sin before God. Scripture teaches that sin is ultimately against God Himself, because He is the one who gave His law, and only He can forgive it. God has provided one way for that forgiveness, through Jesus Christ alone. There is no other way for sin to be atoned for. Whoever believes in Him will not perish but have everlasting life, but to turn away from Him and reject Him leaves no other forgiveness in this life or the next. So my prayer is that each member of your family would turn to Jesus, ask God for forgiveness through Him, and receive salvation. That is the foundation for every other healing.

I also pray for your family bonds, because God cares about the family He created. From the beginning marriage was designed so that two become one, a compound unity. It is meant to be a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman, and God’s heart is not for that union to be torn apart. The fact that there is a legal separation but no divorce yet leaves room for hope. Just as Jesus entered a home where Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, took her by the hand and lifted her up and brought healing so she could serve again, He is able to enter your home with healing and restoring power. He is the true redeemer of the family, the one who restores what is broken and carries the family name forward with grace. I pray that God would work toward reconciliation and unity for your parents according to His will, and that He would give all of you a spirit of forgiveness toward one another. Saying we forgive each other is important, but each person also needs to seek forgiveness from God, and then extend that same grace to one another.

Your prayer to imitate the heart of Jesus by learning patience and understanding is exactly what is needed. When we follow Jesus we are brought into a new family, the family of God, where the bond we have in Christ can be even deeper than natural blood ties. That does not replace your love for your natural family, but it means you are not alone. God places His people together to love and support one another, and He Himself is near to the lonely and stressed. I pray He will comfort you in your loneliness, give you peace in your stress, and surround you with His presence and with brothers and sisters in Christ who can walk with you.

Let us pray together. Father, in the name of Jesus Christ, I ask that You would have mercy on this family. Bring each one to true repentance and faith in Jesus alone for salvation. Forgive their sins and make them new. Pour out Your love to overpower all ill feelings, and teach them to forgive as You have forgiven. Bring clarity about Your will and give them patience and understanding for one another. I lift up the parents especially, that You would soften their hearts, heal the wounds between them, guide them through this legal dispute, and if it is Your will, restore their marriage as one. Protect the children caught in the middle, guard this youngest child from fear and loneliness, and give strength to the older sibling as well. Make this family more like Jesus, and let Your redeeming power be seen in their home. Amen.
