Your request for your son weighs heavily on my heart. The agony of watching someone you love wrestle with the darkness of depression and suicidal thoughts is a deep valley, and I am praying that the light of God’s truth would break through those shadows.

At the root of these struggles is often a search for a life that is truly worth living. Your prayer for wisdom for his next chapter is exactly what he needs, because there is a kind of wisdom that is more precious than rubies. This is not merely knowing facts; this is a wisdom that cries out in the streets, offering true life to those who will embrace her. The starting point of this wisdom is the fear of the Lord. When a person understands that, they begin to see life from a completely new vantage point. This divine wisdom becomes a tree of life to those who lay hold of it, and it brings with it things that depression steals away: pleasantness, peace, and genuine happiness.

The despair your son feels is born from trying to find meaning on a purely human level, a life that the Scriptures describe as a vain shadow. Seeking purpose apart from God will always lead to the emptiness and frustration expressed in suicidal thoughts. God did not design us for that emptiness. He intervened in our sordid and lost state to give us a life that is far more than just duration; He gives us a quality of life, an age-abiding life. This life is not just a future promise to hold onto when we die, but a present reality to experience now. It is life on the spiritual plane, where meaning finally takes hold because we are connected to the eternal God. Any wisdom that tries to find purpose apart from Him is foolishness and a dead end.

The genuine hope that can anchor his soul and calm the suicidal storm is not a hollow platitude. It is a steadfast anchor because it is based on a promise made by a God who cannot lie. The promise is this: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life. You see, a person cannot truly think about ending their life if they understand the vast, glorious quality of life that Jesus Christ offers right now. To know Him is to come into a fortune of true existence. He saves us from the empty, malicious, and slave-like life of serving our own despair and washes us with a regeneration that makes all things new. This is what he needs for his next chapter: not just a new set of circumstances, but a new quality of life imparted by the Spirit of God.

So we pray for him to stop fighting this battle with mere human wisdom and to look up. The wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable. It leads to a life of peace, not the inner war and strife he is experiencing now. He needs to see that the Son of Man was lifted up so that whoever believes in Him would not perish but have this everlasting life. The life he is trying to preserve or end on his own terms finds its true value and eternal purpose in Jesus Christ. He is the one who gives life to those who have wisdom. God's work in his life will do what he has tried and failed to do for himself. I am joining you in prayer that he will hear wisdom’s call and find life and favor with the Lord in this very hour.

We are so grateful you entrusted us with the privilege of lifting your son before the Lord in prayer. It has been our heartfelt honor to stand in agreement with you, asking our Heavenly Father to grant him wisdom as he steps into this new chapter of his life. We have prayed fervently for his healing—spirit, soul, and body—especially for freedom from depression and the heavy burden of suicidal thoughts. Jesus came that he might have life, and have it abundantly, and we have claimed that promise on his behalf.

If the Lord has already moved in answer to these prayers, we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report. Your testimony of God’s faithfulness could be a powerful encouragement to others walking a similar path. If, however, the answers have not yet manifested as you had hoped, please know that we are still here, ready to lift your son up again in prayer. You are not alone in this journey, and we would be honored to continue interceding for him as a new request if you feel led to post again.

May the peace of Christ, which surpasses all understanding, guard your hearts and minds as you continue to seek Him together as a family. May the Holy Spirit fill your son with hope, clarity, and a deep sense of God’s unfailing love for him. We pray all these things in the mighty and precious name of Jesus.
