Pray for ###

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up in prayer as we intercede for his struggle with alcohol addiction. The Bible warns us clearly about the dangers of drunkenness, for it leads to reckless behavior, loss of self-control, and opens the door to many other sins. "Don’t be drunken with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18 WEB). Alcohol addiction is not just a physical battle, it is a spiritual stronghold that must be broken in the mighty name of Jesus Christ.

We rebuke the spirit of addiction that has taken hold of , for it is written, "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13 WEB). The Lord provides a way out, and we declare that will find that path through the power of Christ.

We also pray for wisdom and strength for those around him, family, friends, and believers who can come alongside him with love, accountability, and godly counsel. "Brothers, even if a man is caught in some fault, you who are spiritual must restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; looking to yourself so that you also aren’t tempted" (Galatians 6:1 WEB). May they speak truth in love and help guide him back to the Lord.

Heavenly Father, we ask You to break every chain of addiction in ’s life. Fill him with Your Holy Spirit, replacing the desire for alcohol with a hunger and thirst for righteousness. Give him the courage to seek help, to repent of any sin, and to turn fully to You. We declare that he is not defined by this struggle, for "if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17 WEB).

Lord, we also pray for protection over his mind, body, and spirit. Guard him from the enemy’s lies that tell him he cannot overcome this. Remind him that "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13 WEB). Surround him with believers who will stand in faith with him, pray for him, and encourage him in his walk with You.

We ask all these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, the only name by which we are saved and through whom all things are possible. May experience Your healing, restoration, and freedom. Amen.

We’re so sorry for the alarm and pain you must be feeling as you watch this happen so suddenly. When someone you care about takes a hard turn like this, it can leave you feeling helpless and unsure what to do next.

With a change this abrupt, especially if his behavior is erratic or unsettling, we’d gently encourage you to consider whether a medical issue could be at play. Sudden behavioral shifts sometimes signal something beyond simple alcohol use, a good doctor’s evaluation can be a wise, loving first step. Let him know you’re on his side and that you simply want him to be okay.

If he is indeed slipping into harmful drinking, you’re right to take it seriously. Even a short time of heavy use can mean his body needs careful detox support. Professional help, whether through a Christian program like Celebrate Recovery or a local treatment center, often makes the difference. As you walk alongside him, you don’t have to have all the answers; just refusing to let him go through it alone matters deeply. Calm presence, honest concern, and practical help go a long way.

Please remember to let others in your church or trusted circle know what’s going on, both so you’re not carrying the weight alone and so he has a strong net of support when he’s ready. We’ll be praying with you.

Lord Jesus, we bring this man before You now. You see the confusion and danger he’s in, and You love him with an everlasting love. Please break through whatever darkness has gripped him so quickly. Give wisdom and steady courage to the one who prays for him. Open the right doors for medical care, for honest conversation, and for lasting freedom. Protect him from harm, and in Your time, draw him fully into Your healing light. Amen.

It is a grief to hear of one so suddenly snared by the destroyer. In but two days the poison has worked a strange and terrible fascination, like the serpent charming its prey into a stupor. Yet be not utterly cast down, for our God is the God of deliverances, and His arm is not shortened that it cannot save.

Pray, yes, and pray with all importunity; but also be willing to do strange things to drag this poor soul to the feet of Jesus. If the roof must be uncovered, let it be done. If you must act in ways the world calls mad, heed it not. To rescue a sinner from the pit, no holy violence is misplaced. The palsied man could not move himself, and neither can this one break the chains of his sudden lust. Deliverance from the power of sin is as wholly the work of God as deliverance from its guilt. It is not of him that wills, nor of him that runs, but of God that shows mercy.

Yet take heart, this dark hour may be the strange prelude to a mighty salvation. The Lord often permits a soul to feel the iron grip of sin so that no flesh may glory in His presence, and so that when deliverance comes, it will be seen as free grace alone. He has found a ransom; the precious blood of Christ is price enough. Two days or two decades of bondage melt before that fount. Therefore pray on, and look for a strange thing. When the Lord brings him forth, then shall you both declare the works of the Lord, and say, I shall not die but live. Until that hour, rest in the arm that brought Israel out with silver and gold, and believe that He who began a good work will complete it.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

It is no small thing that this man has been overtaken by wine, for such bondage reveals the soul seeking ease in dullness rather than in God. Yet do not think deliverance will come merely by removing the drink; the greater work is for him to despise the fleeting escape it offers, looking to a better resurrection from sin. For why, when it is open to live, would one choose the chains of drunkenness, unless blind to the higher life? Pray not only that he be freed, but that he would refuse the false deliverance that leads back to folly, striving instead for true sobriety and a well-tempered mind. Let him be taught to be vigilant, not given to much wine, for the word of God is blasphemed when those called to be sons are ruled by base appetites. The Lord, who endured buffeting in long-suffering, can grant strength to overcome, but he must first desire the healing that comes through endurance, not through the numbness of drink.
